Battle of the most recent Disney Channel Original Movies that I can remember. These two were on the Disney channel CONSTANTLY growing up. They're both bad movies with bad acting, and yet I have a nostalgic fondness for both. Neither had a theatrical release, of course.

Smart House (1999)
This one actually had a cool concept. The house is smart and changes based on your needs and wants. The dad kind of has a 'Honey I Shrunk The Kid' ripoff thing going on. Peg Bundy can see into your showers, and the walls turned into televisions which was kind of cool. Unfortunately, it does not turn out to be a horror movie where the house begins killing them off one by one, all the while saying 'Aallllll' Also I think they had a party.

Blank Check (1994)
Kid finds a blank check from some company because they hit his bike. He proceeds to use SUPER HACKER SKILLS to put an insane amount of money on it, though I think it was far less than the amount he would have spent throughout the movie. I think he does it multiple times. It features some guy who looks like Andy Richter and a really sweet house. I think they also had a party.

Or this could just be the Disney Channel Original Movie thread of remembering how terrible these movies actually were. I don't think, even as a kid, that these movies were 'good,' but I just kept watching them. What the hell was the movie about the rich guy who left all his money to the kid who took care of his dog? That one got a lot of airtime too.

Smart House, all day every day. A legitimately fantastic sci-fi concept, with tons of charm. I really wish somebody would do more with the idea. A maniacal house who takes on the persona of a 50's Housewife? I want more.

And if we're on the topic of kick-ass Disney Original TV Movies, Phantom of the Multiplex.

Blank Check wasnt a Disney Channel original movie, it had a theatrical release

I saw it theaters.

edit:

Saw Blank Check in theaters as well.

I'm guilty, I watched both movies constantly growing up, and I highly enjoyed them.

If I had to pick? Smart House, more than likely. Loved the sappy ending, lol. (I'm not picking this for best movie - I dont really remember Blank Check, but I watched Smart House one too many times...)

Some other movie were really great too...

Zenon:girl of the 21st century. Sometimes I tell people I've got tickets to the Protozoa/Power line concert and to see if they know what's up. Cetus-a-petus!

Johnny Tsunami was fun and so was Brink! For being part of that big extreme sport craze of the early 00's it was amusing as a kid.

As a kid I used to watch Cadet Kelly and Wish Upon A Star just to set the mood for wanking. I did actually enjoy the movies otherwise though.

Zoom zoom zoom, make mah heart go boom boom.

I can not for the life of me remembering the other movie. There was a dog and the guy took care of it, and the owner died and turns out he was really rich. And they had a scene where they read his will and none of his relatives got anything but the dog got everything and dog care guy was 'in charge' of it.

Wasn't the dog depressed and eventually it was some dumb murder plot?

Smart House full stop.

No wait, this.

No wait, this.

Actually, I'll add my own.

Brink.

Soul skaters, bro. What was the one where the girl pretends to be her brother for some motocross race?

Blank Check was funny.

Smart House is on a whole other goddamn level.

Disney Channel Original Movies in the late 90's were freaking incredible. Even some in the 2000's were ok. But they owned it.

Brink and Johnny Tsunami (even the sequel oddly enough) were my favorites. Halloweentown somehow had like what, 3 movies? Phantom of the Megaplex was a fun small movie too.

Also WHY DID THE GIRL KISS THE KID
