OK, so who doesn't own a tablet here?

I don't, I don't see why would I need it. Having a smartphone, 2 laptops and 2 desktops at home.

I'm interested in Surface Pro, though. But mostly because it's basically a notebook.

Me, I don't even own a laptop yet so that will come first for work purposes. I will get a tablet when they have tactile feedback or LCD / E-ink hybrid iPads. :p

I don't. I have a gaming desktop and a dumb chromebook. I think I'm looking forward to replacing my chromebook with a surface pro someday.

Bought the $90 touchpad, mainly for reading comics/manga. Don't see myself spending more for a tablet. Have an eReader for books and large screen phone for everything else.

Had one for about a week (iPad 3) and then returned it. It just wasn't practical for my lifestyle. Didn't help me do anything different or faster that my laptop or phone or iPod didn't already do.

I wanted to get an iPad, but that was before I got my MBAir 2012 - no thanks, I don't need one. Maybe I'll buy a tablet for my parents though.

I don't because I don't want one. The 1 time I could use it is on an airplane. It would be better than my laptop. But I plan on making Surface my next laptop next year because I think hybrids invalidate the usefulness of standalone tablets or laptops for my use cases.

Don't own one because I don't need one. I don't see how anyone actually needs one to be honest. Browsing web and shit in bed I do on my smartphone. Tablet's are expensive toys.

Tablets have advantages, working in groups, using it as a reader, etc. When I use a computer, I prefer keyboard/mouse than touch. I don't want to haul around all that stuff (I don't bother with laptops either -I just have no need for them). Tablets will only be around for a decade or so before wearable computers dominate with HUD in eyeglasses.

I would rather sport a rugged ultra-portable micro computer but what I want is both too pricy and underpowered, now.

I'm thinking of getting an iPad mini some time after Christmas. I would like to try one out first. May end up waiting for a retina model in a year or 2. (Retina is inevitable in this day and age)

I have a PC and smart phone. No need for one.

Everyone I know who has one lets their kids have free reign over it. It must get boring/become a novelty quickly, is what I think.

Nope. Tablet browsing changed my life personally in terms of how I browse and consume content.

And when I bought it I wasn't sure if i would really use it lol

I've had this beauty since 2004.

11-inch MacBook Air is nearly as portable (footprint-wise) as your average iPad or Surface RT, yet is a thousand times more functional.

Though my eye is on that 2013 iPad Mini with Retina display and 1GB of RAM for reading PDFs, I must admit.

Don't have one. I just use a smart phone.

I'm still waiting for an x86 tablet with a decent res and a Wacom digitizer.

I don't have one, and for me it doesn't offer any extra value that isn't already covered by my laptop. I suppose there is a mild appeal to use it for reading in bed, but that's why I have a Kindle, and would never give up e-ink for reading.

Unless a Kindle is a "tablet", then I guess I do own one. *shrugs*

I bought a bargain bin HP TouchPad (running Android) but I've barely used it. I just feel there's little reason to carry one when the software is more or less the same that I have on my phone, just with a bigger screen.

We have a Wacom-enabled Windows 8 dev device at work and I like that one. I think there's some cool stuff you could do with something like that not just for drawing but for other applications as well, the Wacom stuff gives you close to the precision you'd have with a mouse in terms of hitting small stuff on the screen so that would be a reasonable way of getting out of the finger-painting baby phone software on the current crop of tablets.

the future of the laptop is one with touch and some kind of optional keyboard so everyone will have a tablet at some point.

You know what I really want

A inexpensive Full Windows 8 Pro x64 7- 8.9" tablet that runs real x86 exe programs and I'll dual boot Android 5.0 on it too

One that has no fans or moving parts
8gb ram
256gb ssd with micro sd slot
2560x1600 screen
Front and back cameras
NFC
Gps
Acceletometer
Basically the best of all worlds

From tablet, laptop amd smartphone

Hell it can be your only device

But ill pay no more thsn 999$
It has to double as a phone laptop and a tablet though

7-8.9"

Currently have a nexus 7 a t430.tradtional laptop and a galaxy nexus

And I want one device to replace all three by 2015

If not ill just get a surface pro / or a x240t thinkpad tablet.
+ a galaxy note 3 @ 1080P

The less devices I have in mah ecosystems the better

There's the new iPad in our house I could use that I don't.

For one, it's someone elses so none of my content is on it. For two, I use my tv, desktop, and a mega mini iPad (my iPhone) with all my content.

I also can't take it out of the house.

As far as not buying my own, money.

The iPad would be real handy when my iPhone battery dies or I want a larger screen, but I don't want to drain their battery.

Ive a nokia phone, no smartphone. Just a straight call and text phone.

Have a laptop.

Have absolutely no need for a smartphone or tablet. Not interested in them. I got better shit to spend my money on.

I don't get the owning laptops or smartphones arguments, i own those plus 2 desktops and i use my ipad for hours everyday.

I'm not saying it's for everyone but for web browsing and even twitter for example is miles better than my smartphone, laptop or desktops.

Edit: BTW even tho i have a 3g ipad, it never leaves my house, but when i'm home it's always beside me in the couch while i'm playing or watching tv, always take it with me to the bathroom too lol.

I don't have one.

Why?

I have a smart phone and a laptop. I don't need a bigger smart phone and I don't need a gimped laptop.

I have as of yet been unable to think of a purpose that I could use one for that would be superior enough to my current electronic devices that it would be worth the price of entry.

Both of this reasons.

it's (nearly or) exactly the same content which can be accessed on other devices, just a tiny bit more user friendly.

that's not enough to justify buying a whole new device, to me.

android runs on ARM not x86.

Not saying it does, but at least for me it's more than a tiny bit, for web browsing tablets are on another level just for the screen size and convenience.

I've pondered buying a tablet for some time now but there is no economical way to convert my existing physical library of media to a format that suits the tablet.

I honestly don't know why anyone has them, I could imagine them being helpful for people who use them in the work place and need a larger device that is mobile, but I honestly don't see the demographic for them. What is the purpose? I used an ipad and thought "this is pretty cool" but then as I teetered on buying one I thought to myself, when will I use it? A regular computer does far more and in a more comfortable way (mouse/keyboard), and my cell phone handles the need to do things on a mobile level in a way I can place in my pocket. A tablet is something I still need a bag to carry around, but is also something I'd never use at home.

The only way I could see myself using it, is at the earliest point of waking up when i don't feel like getting out of bed, I use my phone to browse, so i'd use that instead. Otherwise I don't know what people use them for and why they don't just buy a laptop instead, but I do wish I could understand as I like new tech :p

Don't own one because I don't give a fuck.

I have no use for one plus I'm poor.

I really don't have the money for one but I don't feel that I'm missing out on anything. I've got a laptop, netbook, and a 4G phone. I watch all media on my big ass TV and read gaf in bed on my phone. I suppose if I had a lot of disposable income and owned all of the other toys I would prefer already, then I might spend money on a tablet but it just isn't something I want at this point.
