Yeah, I'm one of the older gaffers, I think I've been around these boards (or their earlier incarnations) for about ten years. The last time time we did an age thread, there were a couple of guys who were older than me, but they may have since passed away.
So if you're wondering if I'll be doing anything extra-special for my 50th today...hell no! After 29 years in the same office, I took an early-out retirement from my federal job at the end of the summer, and since then it's felt like every day is my birthday. I wake up when I feel like it, spend the day goofing off (well, I have gotten more regular with my exercise and I'm finally catching up on the chores around the house and yard) and doing things like hiking with my dog, playing videogames in the middle of the afternoon, and...just enjoying life. The days fly by and I'm never bored.
I will be having dinner with the folks tonight and my family has a bigger birthday bash planned for the weekend. And speaking of family, my dad is 87 and my mom is 83, so that bodes will for my longevity. My goal in life is to continue to collect a pension for longer than I ever spent working.
While I have cut back on my imbibing as I've gotten older, I'm sure I'll be knocking back a few tonight, so if you're doing likewise, raise your glass to GAF's old man!
