Old Games That Has Speech

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I'm talking about those games from the late 70s and early '80s more specifically but I will alsoinclude middle or late '80s.

I'm talking about video games that have some voice in them. Good example was Ghostbusters on the Nintendo entertainment System.

"GHOSTBUSTERS HAHAHAHA!"

We have a visitor. Stay awhile. Stay forever!
Unless my early onset dementia is striking too hard, that would be "Another visitor". But yes. Incidentally, never finished the game although I played the fuck out of it as a kid. Never could figure out what I was ultimately supposed to do despite clearing all the rooms. But I guess that's why it's "impossible".

I don't conglaturate the devs for this one.

Peaked here, such clarity and before Dolby 5.1 was even a thing.

I was going to mention that one. You only heard the speech the first time it was loaded up (maybe the game uncompressed something into the space occupied by the speech).

The first time I heard it, I was so amazed that I loaded it again to make sure I hadn't imagined it.

That's a good sample, getting music at all on the speccy is impressive enough. But you if you have enough RAM and CPU you can do anything.
With 386 PCs we had enough omph to easily play multichannel mod music on the humble PC speaker.

A similar feat was managed in a 2008 C64 demo where they whipped the machine into playing a tracker tune. There's not much CPU left to draw something fancy on the screen.

Sampled speech in Microprose's Kennedy Approach on the C64 was actually an important gameplay mechanic.
I did not understand the game at all as a dumb kid. Pirated copy, no manual and a poor grasp of what air traffic control actually is.
