I loved this arcade machine and the crappy sounds of the dinosaurs (really awesome back in the day)
This looks and sounds amazing! How do you play this game these days?

SINISTAR
I was going to mention that one. You only heard the speech the first time it was loaded up (maybe the game uncompressed something into the space occupied by the speech).
The first time I heard it, I was so amazed that I loaded it again to make sure I hadn't imagined it.
Blades of Steel
I was about to post this thing, probably the first game where I encountered speech. I still remember how cool it was instead of just hearing simple clicky sounds or music.Super Robin Hood on the Amstrad CPC 464 has some interesting very low quality speech samples
My first suspicion was that it was just recorded on the tape. The intro tune is permanently etched into my brain due to how many times I heard it.I often loaded and reloaded the game to marvel at it. I guess the memory was reused after the sample played hence why it only happened on first load.
I couldn't get my head around how it was done at the time.
Never waste a chance to post some Bayou Billy
A little later than the 80's but still valid
1985s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Arcade game by Atari has some funny sounding digitized voice clips, it works in some parts and sounds like they are having a heart attack in others.
