Old Sitcoms that still hold up? (Pre-90s)

Surprised at no mentions of Addams Family yet.

Also I second Married With Children, The Young Ones, and ALF.

The Golden Girls

Not ashamed to admit I have the entire series on DVD, the episodes never gets old. Really sad only one Golden Girl is still alive. Betty White, please live forever!

I wish we could get old sitcoms on Netflix or Prime video. Like Roseanna, Cosby Show, Family Matters, Fresh Prince. I could go on all day though.

Married With Children is the best answer there is, even though I feel like it's more of a 90s show than an 80s one (yes, I know the show started in 1987).

The Golden Girls. My favorite sitcom of all time. Betty White in her prime! I've seen the episodes on TV a million times already and they never get old or unfunny.

There's no shame in admitting that you like the golden girls, at all.

The show is a riot.

Three's Company

My favorite show of all time. I could watch it whenever. My desert island show if you will...

Honeymooners, cheers, threes company. All gold.

I also like watching All in the family because of how unapologetically inappropriate it is.

WKRP in Cincinnati
All in the Family
Sanford and Son
The Golden Girls
Married With Children
Cheers
The Addams Family
Fawlty Towers
Black Adder
Alf
Taxi

A lot of good sitcoms came out before the 90s oddly enough.

Three's Company is legit amazing. Possibly one of the best comedy shows of all time. Like not a 'oh this aged well,' thing. It's a legitimately great show. Jack is on a whole level by himself.

No love for Taxi?
Christopher Lloyd
Andy Kaufman
Danny Devito
Judd Hirsch

Primo television.

I also dig Welcome Back, Kotter.

Taxi is a great show.

I still love watching:
Perfect Strangers
Get Smart
Sanford and Son
Hogan's Heroes

Perfect Strangers is legit amazing. Possibly one of the best comedy shows of all time. Like not a 'oh this aged well,' thing. It's a legitimately great show.

Agreed. It's too bad they never released anything after season 2 on DVD.

1984-1992

original

I'm sadden this hasn't been posted yet. Started five years before I was born yet probably my favorite pre-millennium sitcom.

The Jeffersons
Empty Nest
Welcome Back, Kotter
The Cosby Show
The facts of life
Different Strokes
Perfect Strangers

It can't be mentioned enough: M*A*S*H. No other show (to me) holds up like it. The themes are still relevant and the shocking moments still get to me even after multiple viewings. Truly a great show with an appropriate ending too.

-I Love Lucy
-Ozzie and Harriet
-Golden Girls
I just saw all of the Black Adders within the last week and I loved those. I had to check the date of the best of the four, Goes Forth, but it makes the pre-90s cutoff.

Stanford and Son. Just recently started watching it for the first time. They really don't make em like that anymore.
