OMG LittleBigPlanet E3 Judge's Walkthrough

Sometimes you have to just let go man. I did. Especially when it's something as utterly amazing as this which is looking to move the bar to levels I never thought a platformer can hit. I'm not shooting people's faces off, I'm not cutting them into pieces, I'm not seeing glorious blood spatter and puddles forming under lifeless husks, yet I'm way too excited for this game than someone of my age should be.

Magical, and more.
.

Lets just wait until after it comes out, and we get some extensive playtime on it. Yeah I'm excited too but you're saying LBP is better than the whole Mario Series combined? Did I forget to mention LBP has yet to come out.

I guess i'm about the only person not getting this game, seriously i'm seeing a lot of stuff that it's doing but its not ''clicking''.

Juts when we think this game is awesome enough, it gets even awesomer

OMG this game looks awesome. TV and Internet has ruined my imagination and creativity, but I'm looking forward to playing other gamers and gaf members created levels. I'm going to have to convince some of my friends to get PS3s for some Co-op play. Sad really but I doubt this game will get alot of sales, hopefully I'm wrong.

:lol

Didn't someone in the past mention a chat system that would cause your sack boy to lip sync your words?

Depends on how well Sony markets the game. If they bundle with a sku that has BC and DS3 and prices it appropriately then this game will be a winner

Wow, new footage for this game never disappoints! Every aspect of it is just bursting with charm and potential.

I gotta admit, does seem pretty intimidating. Like youtube, I'll probably just browse and vote on other people's stuff for a while before trying to produce my own. Day 1 material though, no doubt.

This is easily my personal GOTY!

One thing I haven't heard about is how they handle traveling in the Z-direction (towards or away from the screen). Do we push the analog stick forward and back? Does it do it automatically?

I really wish Sony would make a LBP bundle for the holidays! That would be my dream, and this is what I would want in it:

- The rumored 120 or 160gb PS3 that ArsTechnica talked about (you know, to store all those levels!)
- LBP game (duh)
- At least two DS3's (so you can enjoy the co-op)
- Plush Sackboy :D

Honestly, if they made that, I would definitely camp out for it and I would be in gaming nirvana.

The z movement is definitely manual. I'm guessing up and down handles it, that makes the most sense.

Whatever about a bundle, a special edition with a plush sackboy is begging to be done. I'd probably buy two (one for me, one as a mint collector's version).

I also hope how strongly they've been pushing it at events speaks for how they intend to market it.

So...does anyone know if there is any other way to import textures other than using the EYE? It'd be really nice to be able to import textures from the web (higher res and easier).

And I call BS if they say "no" because of copyright issues...like we can't take photos of a Pepsi can or something?

Yes you can use pictures off the PS3s harddrive. Or at least, it was stated a long time ago you could, and likely hasn't changed.

The need for new games will cease once LBP is released.

No, there's still room. This only covers sidescrollers, so they'll need a trilogy; top-down and isometric completes it (the sequels can still include sidescrolling, but they could include vertical scrolling too.

I'd like to know this as well. They EYE thing is cool, but using your own good textures would be far more useful.

Don't think it's been demoed though...or has it? It'd make sense of course, I guess we'll see..

Well, I'm assuming any Pictures you take with your PSeye while playing LBP are saved into your pictures folder on the XMB. So I'd imagine that having textures in your pictures folder could be opened up in LBP?

Not necessarily, the data could be saved somewhere else. And it could tell the difference between pics it took in-game and others in the xmb folders anyway..if it wanted to differentiate between them..

So custom music and sound effects? I am guessing they will have pre-set ones you can choose from to avoid copyright infringement, although it be a great way for artists to get their music heard.

The levels we've seen to date are incredibly imaginative, with some cool platforming elements as is, and it's art style and graphics are gorgeous. The thing that's going to set this game far apart is the user created content. You beat those other games once, you know the script. At least with this, you have fresh content at hand always, be it your own, your friends, or some random people's creations. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see some places like Insomniac and Naughty Dog maybe jump in and create something themed after their stables.

It's too bad they didn't show all this other stuff when they did that initial presentation. Reggie would've probably been locked up for killing N'Gai with flames that were about to burst from his eyes in that pic. :lol

I'm so sick of health bars in platformers.
Man, I love you. This is exactly what I was thinking!

Yeah i was wondering this as well, wouldnt mind a little music making program or something, people might wanna make a spooky level or Halloween themed level, and you can have that with all the happy music they have shown so far.

looks incredibly fun :D

did he mention we can create costumes as reward?
wonder how that'll work.

Yup, he explained it as well, you make a bitchin costume, you make a level and you are then able to make the costume a prize, so if they get over a certain amount of points on the level, you get the costume.

Make.

But yeah from the sounds of it this stuff is gonna be so damn user friendly it isnt funny, guess the delay has really helped.

So I've scetched my LBP-stage. I think it's gonna be awesome, I'll be working on it day one!

Good to see the reason I bought a PS3 just seems to be getting better every time I see it.

Hopefully the micro chips have some complexity to them - easy enough for novices but with some options that open up the logic devices to the more advanced users too. Anyone who has played around with the WIRES mod on Garry's Mod will appreciate some of the possibilities.

What I'd really like is if they took an approach Epic took with Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3... Allowing users to create models on the PC using some 3d program and then 'cooking them' so they can be formatted for the PS3. Then you can place them in your game. Then, the best new user created objects can be put up for use by all.

and it'll cost $600 and not be worth it

I was thinking of this last night, doing mud maps or sketches and emailing them to friends then making the map in multiplayer or whatever.

And thats exactly the type of thing that would turn most PS3 gamers off it.
Keep it all on the PS3 MM.

wait - is this a retail game or a PSN? I thought it was PSN
Blu-ray only!

time to stop the spread of misinformation.

Demo: yes
Beta: no

And expect the demo to limit your avaiable abilities (the reasopn for no beta was because since you can just create your own levels in the game, having a beta would mean folks wouldn't bother buying the retail version just for more levels.)

That's what happens when developers and console manufacturers promise features so far down the track that aren't concrete yet. It's annoying and doesn't create good will.

LBP still looks great and I still excited for it. I'm just concerned about how well it'll work with in 4:3. The levels look like they only work well in widescreen and also that'll be an issue co-op for stages that require teamwork. I really hope they give the option to play in letter box mode.

For people's music queries:

At the beginning of a level, you might only hear one part of the music, but as you progress and pass through more jukeboxes, you'll hear more strands of the soundtrack, including beats and melodies. In your own levels you can place these jukeboxes wherever you want, but you won't be able to import your own music, you'll have to use the music included in the game (you'll be able to import your own Photoshop created images or PlayStation Eye pictures and use them as stickers though).

Ah, Too bad. Lets hope the music they choose is good!
The same goes with MGS4 and it's Ipod.

You have an iPod in MGS4? If so, that is both ridiculous and ridiculously awesome.

Yeah, this was written a couple months ago, and I was kind of upset as they'd talked about a music creation tool before. Kind of lame it didn't make the final cut, but they're adding so much stuff I find it hard to complain (...though music really should be a high priority).
