OMG Square Enix shows FF7 PS3 trailer at their party

yeah with updated graphics in that case as the trailer that was at E3 looked bad like hell, compared to other next gen titles it was far the worst one"graphicwise that is!

The reason we're getting all riled up over Square Enix showing the footage to the public is that the trailer, this time, was not appended with a similar message denouncing its use in a game. It's likely that many who viewed the theater, walked away thinking that there's a PS3 version of Final Fantasy VII in development
interesting...

[hope]maybe it will be involved in a remake[/hope] :)

i would love a ffvii remake with those [OMG!!! :D ] visuals. it seems a lot of work for just a tech demo!

uhh... that Video is from E3 and a Tech Demo for the PS3... AND there's an official sticky thread at the top of the page for all the SE party news.

Maybe we've have seen different trailers :lol :lol :D

Please SE, make this shit, you motherfuckers. I will have sexual intercourse with it.

what.

It makes perfect sense. Final 7's debut on the psx was what made Square a household name to many. And it would be fang-fucking-tastic.

Needless to say, if Ps3 launches with Final Fantasy 7-2, Microsoft may as well call all their ninjas back from active duty in japan. The War's already over.

I just honestly don't want to hear about this at all anymore unless it's an official press release from Square announcing the game. Too fucking cruel.

You might want to check out the FF7 spinoff for PS2, and FF7 Crisis core for PSP in a not so distant future. I think they have milked FF7 enough already. Proceed with FFXIII please.

They can do both.
Kitase's team is working on FFXIII and Nomura could make the FF7 remake.

Fan service =/= Milking

Fan service >>> Milking

... i'm missing the point

Yeah no kidding. Milking = Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Hyper, Super Mega, Turbo Hyper, Hyper Championship...

you get the idea.

GEARS OF WAR

KILLZONE"PS3"

MOTOSTORM

RE5

just to name a few :)

Two of those were CG movies.

Neither GoW or RE5 puts it to shame overall (certainly the former), though I think it's beauty was in different areas than those two.

It was definitely one of the best realtime demos Sony had at E3, imo.

Anyway, I wouldn't read TOO much into this..but it's odd they did give it public airing without qualification.

I agree. If it happens, it would be better with a -2

Are you serious?

The FF7 tech demo looks fantastic and ran at 60 fps. Are you saying the Advent Children movie looks like shit as well?

Gears of War shouldn't even be mentioned simply due to the fact that it animates like shit. It looks like an old PC game running with a new coat of paint applied...

well i for one do not want a remake nor a sequal to FFVII

i want new games with new characters and story!

Then don't buy it when/if it is released :lol I think a FFVII remake would take a shorter time to make than a totally new FF(I might be wrong). Unless you're willing to wait till 2020?

It should be fine as long as they keep a certain somebody away from the series from now on.

Why not add additional gameplay with FF7 instead of making a separate FF7-2?

Because what's the point of playing an rpg IF YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE STORY?

I dunno, I like really good gameplay, but what drives me to keep playing in good rpgs is that I can't wait to find out what happens next and see the next story cutscene. FFVII remake would not have this drive, FFVII-2 would have it so thus FFVII-2 would be better than FFVIIr IMO.

But fuck it, just make FFXIII and FFXIV at this point with your resources Square. Between the bunch of FF7 spin-off games and the AC movie I think the world view is being done to death and there's no point making anymore games about Materia and "ooo I have a big sword to compensate for other things" Cloud.

Maybe a month shorter since they don't have to write the story. But ummm, the environments are not going to magically change from pre-rendered CG to PS3 level 3d all by themselves. Doing all the texture and polygon work for a FF7 remake would take as long as doing one from an entirely new FF.

Though one could argue that they could pull textures and models from the FF7:AC movie to save time. Personally if they did that they should just make an rpg set in the FF7:AC world and basically port the environments built for the movie into the game to save time.

I guess they would use the FFVII:AC models and textures. Personally I wouldn't mind if it took as long as a totally new FF; I haven't played FFVII and I don't want to play the PS1 or PC version. Maybe Square could add a new storyline which starts where the original FFVII story ends or modify it to please people who have already played it.

i agree!
but remake would be sweet if they can codevelop it with the next upcoming FF game"FFXIII"
as i do not want to wait longer for the new FF game just so i can play a remake of an old FF game

Exactly, one thing is certain there is a big enough market for a FF7 Remake, and the PS3 actually makes the remake plausable... It is TIME!

Because what's the point of playing an rpg IF YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE STORY?

Good point. Still, I think a lot of fans would love to see what the world of Final Fantasy VII looks and feels like with next-gen graphics and music. Also, the market is larger then seven years ago, so new gamers that haven't played the 'old' FFVII are a factor too I guess. I'd be more interested in a remake if SE would implement new stuff. More story, more enemies, weapons, locations, music, whatever. Surely some would see it as a cheap way to promote sales, but when done in a subtle way the remake could fit in better with all the other FFVII titles.

Still, a FFVII-2 with graphics on par with the technical demo would be more interesting I guess, but with all the ground already covered by AC, BC, CC, DoC and Last Order, I wonder if there's any room left for it.

Yup!!!

They can update the battle engine, add more dungeons, sidequests, etc. Let's face it for the most part ff-x-2 was sidequest bonanza game with little meat.

If they remake FFVII and add more content on the side, elaborate a bit more on each char. new enemies, dungeons, etc. WE get more meat in the game(basically ffvii remake + ffvii-2 in one single game!!!), and all are happy. It's like asking for a next-gen mgs ala "vr-missions" rather than one that's supah meaty "subsistence/substance/whatevah" one.

They can add alternate endings, a few post-ending missions, etc, as other's have said.

I imagine they'd just pull the models and textured used to make the prerendered background and fix it up for the remake if it happens.

Personally I wouldn't mind a remake if they can fix up the pace a little and rearrange things a little. Maybe add stuff that they had to pull too.

If I recalled, the original FF7 on PS was rushed out of door near the end of its development period anyways. It would be nice if SquareEnix could do a remake of FF7 and add everything that they originally have intended to be the ending of FF7. Also, maybe include in new battlesystem as an option too.

Ugh, not this stuff again.

Not to mention they probably have several high-poly environments from the psx fmv days, not sure if some of the backgrounds were also cg or if they were art, but if cg they may've assets. With a few high-rez textures and a few touch-ups many of those could probably be used.

PS

Darn if they used a third-person camera with first-person optional view, it'd be like a whole nother game. That's one of the things I'd love to see, ffvii has aged the most of all the psx ffs, it really could use a gphx update(even when it was released some complained about the extremely simplistic models used outside of battles.).

I'd rather have Final Fantasy Advent Children: The Game than a remake but if they choose to do a remake and extend the games length to include events from Advent Children (sort of like how Nintendo extended Metroid's length in Zero Mission) I won't complain. Shoot, if they did that they would probably end up with the most epic RPG ever.

Question: did they show off their other tech demo from the X360 E3 conference? If they did, it would suggest they were just showing off next-gen graphics etc. If they didn't, then perhaps it further suggests there's a little more to the FFVII demo.

Ugh, what a tease. With Square's incredible CG art, they could really have a leg up on the competition this gen. I look at FF12, and just imagine what they could do on the PS3. Instead of wasting all this time doing pre-rendered CG cutscenes, dump all that effort into building a stable engine, and make all the characters and bgs for a living, breathing world. Could it be that as hardware gets stronger, Square's hand gets stronger? I sure hope so. And I don't want a FF7 remake, I want a new damn game. FF7 was awesome, but at the time it came out, it was beatup pretty badly in comparison to FF3. I guess time heals all wounds, and people can appreciate the game for what it was now without the system bias. But even then, there's no need for regurgitating the same damn game. Gimme a new FF with a main character more like Cloud than what's his nuts from FFX. The main characters have gotten girlier and girlier with each sequel until FFX-2 where they just dropped all false pretenses. PEACE.

System seller. The kids who grew up with FF7 as their first RPG will flock to this machine. Save FF7-2 for more milking in the future! SE is brilliant!

Square is making a huge mistake if they remake FF7; everyone will finally realize how mediocre of a game it is without the "oh wow" factor.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how long FFXII has been in development?

Kinda crazy theory but if it's being released in Spring 2006 and with all the unanswered delays, I'm thinking they are upgrading the engine to be 'more' PS3 compatible. And therefore being 'groomed' as a PS3 launch title in that sense?

That's exactly how I feel. I can still remember pretty much every detail from the game. I want something new that carries on the story.

Do you mean coding in the option for the game to be accelerated on the PS3? I can see maybe 1080p support on the PS3, and maybe upgraded textures and stuff, but I don't know what else they could do within the constraints of a DVD-9. But then, I don't know how large the other games were either.

I hope you're onto something here, b/c that would actually justify the obnoxious delays. And it would give that March06 date some actual meaning. I can just imagine them using the same engine, but with two sets of data stored on there. A bunch of high-res textures and some models for the PS3, and the regular assets for the PS2. Instant FF at launch. :D But then, it would also be a little PS2.5 action as well, and might not be in Sony's best interest. I assume they'd want all PS3 content to show a distinct markup. How could you categorize it? PEACE.

The ff7 tech demo looks good, but I'm not too impressed because Grandia 3 looks every bit as good, and that's not even a next-gen game.
