Once again Xbox has a dry Q1/Q2

Except you did, but i guess you prefer dishonesty.

No dishonesty at all. I did get a response, just not what I asked for. I've also done as you requested and still don't see any lists that display an even number of Q1/Q2 exclusives for both the PS4 and X1. So.....

I'm going to level with you and start from the beginning. You said they have the same amount of exclusives for Quarters 1 & 2. Right? What are they and when, exactly, do they release?

I think it's alright. They've got one big exclusive in a Q, then supplement it with smaller titles and 3rd party. Not sure how the Summer is shaping up though.

Does anyone even really care about Fable Legends? Serious question. It looks like mobile inspired wallet-vacuum fodder that steals the colorful cartoon look of Dungeon Defenders but may or may not have the same ingenious hook. My faith is about zero its going to be a good game. We shall see.
I would at least like to try it. I've already accepted that it's not a mainline title, but if the gameplay is fun enough then I could see spending a decent chunk of time with it. Art style looks pretty good.

I would be up for a proper "open world" single player Fable action RPG (even though the last one was not great). I'm not interested in a F2P multiplayer spinoff with pre-made characters though.

Meanwhile PS4 has tons of exclusive and "exclusives" that they didn't even pay for since they have them because of market reasons (jp games, mostly)

That IS the problem for those of us with multiple machines. If I can get most of those games on another device (and even better versions), why would I need an X1?

So at the very least you spent $600+ on consoles (if going buy the recent Black Friday sale price of the PS4 & XB1) that share the vast majority of the same gaming library. Keep in mind that while this common among enthusiasts, most people who bought these consoles would never do this. This is only a problem for the minority. For everyone else, a consoles library is not limited by arbitrary guidelines and based around how the games were published.

Arbitrary guidelines? Dear me...

I bought a PS4 for its own games, the X1 for a similar reason, and have a PC for everything else. With that, of course I'm not going to buy mutiplats on everything, but in fact, whatever device grants me the best version (which is usually the PC). That leaves the consoles for their exclusives (which, despite some attempts at minimizing the importance of this, the exclusive is still very, very critical to a console's health).

I don't see why such a view ruffles some feathers, here.

I'm always a little confused when this topic comes up. Does it really matter that much to people when the games are released? You get the same amount of games anyway.

Releasing 2 in the same month or 1 in two months doesn't really make that much of a difference to me. I just pick the games up and play them in my own tempo anyway.

Considering I rarely buy games upon release, I've got lots to catch up on already. QB + a smattering of indies and whatnot is fine by me. Particularly because, as much of my gaming is MP orientated, a good MP game is a good MP game. You play them for years.

These kinds of threads always posit for the objective, and are then inundated by the subjective.

How did MS stacked the 2015 holiday season from there first/second part studio?

Forza 6?
Gears Ultimate?
Halo 5?
Tomb Raider?

You being serious now? How many games can you possibly play in such a short period? There's 4 LONG games that would last normal people a long time and that doesn't include multiplats.

You're missing a lot of games.

If he doesn't buy them, he doesn't. That's all that actually counts, unless we're talking big trends in gaming, and that's been set in stone since 2013.

For example, the PS4 has loads of exclusive Japanese RPG stuff. Which is fantastic if you like that. I don't, thus it doesn't mean very much to me.

And so on and so forth.

Yeah, that's another thing I never understood. No one's forcing you to buy each and every exclusive during a particular quarter. If you feel like there's too many exclusives during one quarter, and not enough during another, then simply just wait to buy around half of the bunch -- they'll probably end up being cheaper to buy anyway. It's not like the consoles have an automatic lock in which games from a previous year are unable to be played as soon as the new year starts.

I believe someone here said that Tomb Raider should have released this month instead of back in November; I agree that January would have been better but again, no one is forcing you to play games as soon as they launch. The game can be found for under $60 now since it has been out for a while (I believe it's $40 in some stores). It would be $60 this month if it launched this month (obviously).

I really don't understand the problem here.

Aren't we all?

I won't have nearly enough time to play most of the games that are coming out in Q1 and Q2 that I want to play.

This is what I mean. I'm playing through Need For Speed on PS4 right now, I JUST Platinumed Rocket League, I still need all the achievements for Tomb Raider, I'm going through Halo 5 and have BARELY touched Gears Ultimate since August.

This is all ignoring Mario Tennis which I still dabble in and even taking shots at Call of Juarez Gunslinger on PS3.

Mind you, I'm STILL grinding away at Killer Instinct 2013 to get all the achievements before Season 3 launches. Only got like 10 achievements left. SO I won't even have the time for Uncharted, Street Fighter, Ratchet and Clank, Quantum Break and KI Season 3. Let alone anything else. The only reason I've had tine t play the above is because I've been on leave for my second child for 2 months.

Once I go back to work next week, I'm fucked.

There are a few big releases: XCOM2. FIREWATCH. THE WITNESS.

Backlog:

Sunless sea (but I'm finding it meh)
Hand of fate
Talos Principle
To the moon
Witcher 3 DLC
Arkham knight (I prob won't play it though)

So honestly I got a lot on my plate if I can finish talos and the W3 dlc within the next month then I'll be happy.

I'm super sad too that their JRPG lineup is dead compared to X360. Lost O, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia, etc are a few to name that were fantastic titles. Have they all but given up on that genre for the machine?
I think JRPG creators have learned their lesson after last gen's 360 moneyhats. If Lost Odyssey was on PS3 it could have been a hit. Instead Mistwalker is making mobile games now. SO4 nearly killed the franchise; Tales is entries behind in the west because of Vesperia's poor performance. People who like Japanese games are less likely to own a Microsoft console, because they're less likely to looooove shooters.

I'm still looking for an excuse to buy the console, I nearly bought the thing at launch because of Crimson Dragon but thought I needed a little bit more than 1 downloadable game. I'm really hoping cuphead has enough content to justify purchasing the console.

really?

Yawn.

This is just as terrible as the "PS4 has no games" meme.

Oh.. and Lost Odyssey wasn't a moneyhat. It was a first party game just like Scalebound.

Ok, I'll concede that it's not a moneyhat. That doesn't change the fact that it was a mistake and a lot more people would have bought it elsewhere.

it's not like PS4 had any noteworthy exclusives other than Bloodborne for all of 2015.
and that's ok, it's not like there aren't any third party or indie games to play on both platforms.

I really hope that game is good. It looks awesome.

How many of those games were delayed? Also, what were some of the holiday releases in those years?

Software development doesn't always go perfectly so I would venture to guess that some of the games you have posted were originally slated for a Fall release before getting delayed into an early year release.

I mean, on one hand, I get what you are trying to say. Sony has done a good job at releasing games all over the calendar year. However, the poster I was quoting made it sound like they were intentionally only releasing their big games during the beginning of the year to avoid competing with large multiplatform releases at the end of the year, which I don't think is the case.

You could argue the same that spring games get delayed to winter too. I think it sounds less bad that a game get delayed for development reasons rather than "November has become too crowded". But look at GT5 that was pushed back multiple times and ended up releasing Nov 10.

Seems to me like what you wanted to say is "Xbox games in Q1/Q2 don't particularly interest me." Which is fine, I feel the same way about this entire years PS4 lineup outside of Ni-Oh, but I wouldn't exactly say there are no games coming out, just a lot of ones that look really boring to me. Seems to me like It's a matter of taste.

I never said the word exclusive at all in my post. i said the line ups were the same, they both have a lack of actual exclusives outside Uncharted 4 and Quantum for retail.

By line up I mean Line up not on each others consoles, so that includes pc multiVlats as long as its only on one.

Until Dawn says hi

i said noteworthy. jk
(not really)
, but ok then that's two. but like i said before, third party and indies are what both companies are focusing more on this gen. and that's cool. ps4 still got a lot of stuff last year. just not many exclusives.

Yeah, it is an arid lineup but this is coming off a stuffed fall/holiday schedule. It is pretty difficult to have an ongoing schedule of moderately big retail titles.

Ratchet and Clank!

Gravity Rush Remastered is another retail title as well (Amazon exclusive) but I am sure that will be ignored here as well because reasons.

This thread has gone about the way one would expect these threads to go.

Are folks still holding to the whole "only Retail AAA counts"?
I actually liked The Order (I'm in the minority) and loved helldrivers (oops forgot downloadable games don't count :-p)

Come to think of it both consoles had two notable 'remake' releases:
Gears of War Ultimate + Rare Replay
Tearaway + Uncharted Collection

i'm not saying that ps4 doesn't have games. i'm just saying that exclusives that there are less exclusives you can play only on the system. for both consoles, mostly. both companies are focusing more on getting indie and third parties, which is cool because there is a good amount of variety. and helldivers came out for pc, didn't it?

and seeing as uncharted 4 was supposed to come out winter 2015 but got delayed, it's obvious that there was a hole in the lineup. but it's ok because there are still games to play.
the whole 2015 wasn't bad i suppose (except for their christmas) i guess. exclusive wise for ps4. tearaway, until dawn, uncharted. that's ok.

IDK, I'm really looking forward to Ori DE, Fable Legends (I am enjoying the beta), Killer Instinct S3, and Quantum Break. Those four plus Uncharted on PS4 is going to make for a great spring for me.

You realize that the PS4 had more retail exclusives across 2015 than the XB1 yes?
And that it's going to be even more in 2016, with an even stronger ratio if you count in digital?

I swear, someone says something that appears evident to everyone (including the MS management, when they themselves describe their strategy with "pre-season doesn't count" and the likes),
and it's instant circling the wagon from Xbox fans and spouting that kind of goalpost BS.

Yeah, in fact the best selling games on ps4 are Destiny, Star Wars, cod black ops and Battlefield 4...

Also it's more like "if lost odyssey wasn't on 360, it would never have existed" since it's ms that funded the game
