One year-old tries to interact with a print magazine

and when they can no longer cope with the lack of features in the physical world their bodies will die and minds will live in a cloud in the sky.
 
yes because everyone can let their 1 year old play with an expensive tablet over a $2 magazine.

It is a striking change for the times but nothing unexpected or new honestly. kids learn tech earlier and earlier because we develop tech every day and integrate it into our lives. It is no different for someone growing up 20 years ago with some of the first PCs.

Today, sure. But in the future these things are just going to get cheaper and more accessible. Kindle Fire is already less than half the price of an iPad.
 
Its a really fascinating idea but that video is pushing it waaaay too hard. Was expecting nice natural video without any cuts. Instead its 55% titles running the point into the ground. My best friend has a one year old, I've been pushing them to get her an old ipad off craigslist for a while now.
 
For the most part, kid just looks like she's trying to grab things off of the page/picture, just like she can grab things in real life - something I assure you kids were trying to do long before touchscreens were invented.

Otherwise, I've seen kids that young being able to operate with touchscreen on a basic level, and still not try to do the same with books. They clearly seem to know there's difference.

Dude that's how all babies react to magazines. That's pretty normal for the most part.

Not the iPad thing but not being able to open them up properly or turn the page properly. It's a fucking baby for Christ's sake.
 
Funny anecdote:

My cousins came over to visit and I showed them the Kinect for the first time. They have an 18 month old who loves the iPad and uses it regularly to watch videos about trains and play games and whatnot.

...so I kick on the Kinect and we stand him in front of the thing (or try to), and the menu is on the screen. He ran up to the TV screen and tried pushing the buttons. It was adorable.
 
I feel kind of bad for kids who grow up now. Even though technology is better what kind of memories will they have? People who were born in early 90s or earlier at least have memories of there being no widespread internet/handheld technology. No youtube, going out to play after school, etc.

Kids remarks in the future will consist of 'Wow facebook only had ONE friends list back in 2011, can you believe that? lolol' or 'Gears graphics had so many jaggies/pixelation I don't know how they dealt with the lack of brain input controls'
 
Maybe they should have given the kid a book before they decided it would be cool to leave the bliss of books out of her life.

If the kid was used to a book, she would't have done this. Kids can get used to both easily.

Yep, giving credit to the head of a company who made a version of a device that had been around for ages. Even Jon Stewart made an embarrassing comparison between Jobs an Thomas Edison.

Hmm, honestly have never used iBooks before. TBH, I'm more of a physical book guy. Just something romantic about it.

Yeah, I don't really see anything out of the ordinary with the interactions shown. Babies want to grab and touch everything anyways.

I can't get over this. That asshole doesn't even qualify it with a "probably". Do you know the future video guy? Are you planning on raising her as a strict anti-magazinist?
 
Obviously they had her play with the magazines outside so that she'd more easily be distracted.

Seriously. Apparently this person had a glimpse of the future in which their 18-year-old daughter is attempting to tap a magazine like an iPad and becoming frustrated that it won't respond.
 
Guess people have never seen babies in action before. They grasp and swipe and pinch fucking everything to learn how shit works.
