OPINION: Wii U, best console to own in 2014, easily

Of course not, but he said he's excited for 2015. A game announced right now won't hit 2015 unless it's a small project like the Toad game (which looks fun).

Zelda will most likely be a Holiday 2015 release.

X will surely release at some stage in 2015.

Star Fox on the other hand....

I don't think even Captain Toad will make it to 2015. Nintendo will hibernate through 2015 to save money.

Star Fox on the other hand....

... is scheduled for 2015. People coming here with the big revelation that games get delayed... Well yeah naturally. We just can't possibly know what games those would be.

Nothing is coming to Wii U in 2015 because everything announced for 2015 isn't actually coming in 2015 because reasons

Do you honestly believe Zelda is hitting 2015? We know nothing and it's almost 2015. Nothing but a tiny trailer and a few words. Look at the history.

Xeno may hit. I never said it wasn't, but we usually see more from games that are releasing in a year, especially an RPG.

These defensive responses are getting old, though. I lay out an prediction and just get snippy responses, except Mesoian, who seems actually interested in discussion.

Look. Another. This isn't me slamming the Wii U, it's me asking a question. I don't know why I bother.

Its the only console I own, and I only really bought it because of X, Zelda U and MH3U (and Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower and Last Story). And now with Bayo 2, SM3DW, Pikmin 3, etc... Its more games than I have actual time to play xD

Having missed the Wii, its really all I could ask for, besides nothing on the PS4 or Xbone interests me enough to make me buy them.
Now sony if you made a new Legend of Dragoon...

Yeah, Wii U is the best option right now. To be fair to XONE/PS4 though, the first holiday after a console launches usually isn't too stellar of a lineup.

With what they showed for Star Fox at E3, it will probably be a miracle if it releases in 2015.

Looked rough and very early in June.

If they haven't played the game, how can they decide that it isn't good?

If they aren't interested in the game, why would they be inclined to think that it is good enough to warrant a purchase against other games that they are more interested in? Aesthetics are a big component of this, but it's the overall marketing--that is, the way the game is presented (advertising) but also the way the game defines and approaches the job it sets out to do for players (which is set by the product team)--that is supposed to pique players' interests. Not just the player's own initiative to play the game and see what it's like.

I vehemently disagree! I am not knocking any other consoles, which I own and love, or any other games (including CoD4, which is still my favorite shooter), but rather people who choose NOT to give Nintendo games a fair shake because of aesthetics.

I just believe that good games deserve to be played. Different games are good for different reasons and push the medium in different ways.

The four Nintendo games I mentioned have outstanding gameplay and immediate playability that came as a breath of fresh air to me, after being disappointed in Nintendo's output over the past decade.

You don't really think everyone who dislikes Nintendo only plays CoD, right?

Best damn value too, Refurbished Unit that is actually brand new+ Mario Kart+ Free game with Mario Kart+ $5 eshop credit+ A bunch of club nintendo coins that let you get at least a free (probably worthless) SNES game= $250.

What's coming out in 2015? This isn't meant to be a troll/asshole question, I'm honestly curious.

Zelda is definitely not hitting 2015. Xeno may hit 2015, but I doubt it. Starfox has no information and will likely not be 2015. That Fire Emblem game is vaporware until they say more.

What we know of so far.

Xeno looked pretty far in during the Treehouse. Japan release next year for sure. At this point in time we'd seen less of Bayo 2 and it came around eventually. Zelda will be 2015.

The device itself is a very fine machine that can give you a lot of entertainment. It's a better console than most people think, but as a main console it lacks important 3rd party games such as sports games, military shooters or RPGs. And if you don't like platformers or J'nR's than all the great Nintendo exclusives do nothing for you.

Bayonetta 2 doesn't pass my "Am I embarrassed being seen playing this by my significant other?" test, but Tropical Freeze, Smash, and Mario Kart are all incredible games.

I love how the OP claims the Wii U is the best in 2014 "easily", yet lists games from 1-2 years ago. The output of games on the machine beyond Nintendo franchises is pathetic. I had to buy an Xbox One to satiate my gaming needs when I originally planned to go this generation Wii U only. Don't get me wrong, Nintendo games are great but the console needs way more variety.

Its missing project robot if I'm not mistaken

Sorry, I didn't realize opinion posts weren't allowed here! I spent the next sentences explaining why the gameplay in SM3DW is masterful (in my opinion, because this is clearly subjective).

I guess it's controversial to say a game is good
(in my opinion, coming from the minority viewpoint of having actually played the game)
when people who haven't played it already decided that it wasn't good. If they haven't played the game, how can they decide that it isn't good?
The aesthetics.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with not liking a game because of the aesthetics. Different things are important to different people.

Uh, that's not how opinions work. You can't make inflammatory remarks about a group of people and hide behind your "opinion."

It's valid for you to say that you think Nintendo makes games that are focused on gameplay and other companies are focused on aesthetics. It is not valid to say that people who like Nintendo games like gameplay, and people who don't like Nintendo obviously prefer aethetics.

Definitely, PS4 and Xbone's exclusive output has been mediocre so far. It's a bit unfair though, Wii U year one was awful as well. I'll probably nab a Wii U if I see a nice bfriday deal, something like a $200 bundle 32gb. Ideally $250 black 32gb smash bros.

Personally I'd take the XBone or PS4 library over the Wii U library. The Wii U only really has Zombi U and Bayonetta 2 that appeal to me.

I don't believe Zelda will hit 2015 either.

Xenoblade however... that's a given. They had a playable build at E3 this year and the game has been in development for four years, I'd say the chances of it releasing next year are pretty high. As for other 2015 releases, Yoshi's Wooley World, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Kirby's Rainbow Curse will make it as well. Apparently Project Giant Robot, Project Guard and Star Fox are slated for next year as well. I guess there's Devil Third...

There's no accounting for taste, Wii U's lineup might not be everyone's cup of tea , but so far, it's the only one that gives good reasons to own one

nah, it just doesn't get the adult games like ps4/xbone do

"adult" games. lol

I'm sure Bayonetta 2 has great gameplay, but It's not for me, I'm not gonna feel bad ass controlling a corny character that a few members here already compared to drag queens, and the world, story and art style just look like shit to me, it's a shame cause I probably would have bought a wiiu for a great action game with appealing art style/character since there are so rare.

OK this thread is turning into a goldmine.

You wouldn't also like to play Bayonetta 2? I agree it's not the best if you're limited to only one console, in terms of quantity of releases.

Nothing is coming to Wii U in 2015 because everything announced for 2015 isn't actually coming in 2015 because reasons

Like half the games released for the Wii U thus far have been delayed. Sometimes by months. Expecting the next Zelda, in particular, to be delayed is not a bold prediction at all.

For me personally, there's a lot more on the Wii U that I love and am looking forward to than on the other systems. That won't stop me from getting a PS4 eventually, but Zelda U and Xenoblade X are my most anticipated games right now (which is surprising since I'm such a huge FF/KH fan).

And a hugely successful playable beta.

You're being defensive, I didn't say the game is bad or has no merit. I've never even played it. I'm just saying that it was the hype and marketing to sell the game, certainly not the beta, which actually raised many questions about the content in the full game iirc. They promised a lot, they marketed the shit out of it and the game sold. Before review were even in. If that's not selling on hype and marketing, I don't know what it is.

I wonder how many of the people complaining that Pikmin 3 is a sequel are going to buy the next AssCreed game.

Also why do people care whether a game is 1st party or 3rd party? Fun games are fun regardless of who made them.

Because some of the 3rd party games are heavily played by many. If the Wii U was the best console to own...it would alienate me from playing with friends and co workers online...

I would have to try to pump up the Wii U to them so we could get some online gaming in....or plan massive play times at my place if they didnt get a Wii U.

It entirely depend on preferences, both in franchises and genre really. WiiU is severely lacking in many genre thanks to a poor third party library..even if it has been in the market for a year longer.

From the OP's list I'm interested in two games and that's it. It definitely isn't the best console to own in 2014 or even as an investment for the upcoming years. Eventually I want to end with PS4+vita+3ds for my combo

Was the Miyamoto projects ever stated as being separate releases? Wouldn't be surprised if they make it in different games, maybe StarFox. Kind of like how the mini games at E3 2011 (Shield Pose) made it into Game & Wario, Chase Mii and Battle Mii went into Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. Mii became NSMBU.

Yeah, Wii U has dominated in 2014 when it comes to software. Tropical Freeze is my GOTY so far, and that can change with Bayonetta 2 next week or Smash Bros next month.

Lots of disappointment going on with highly anticipated PS4 games.

It has the games I'm most excited about this year for sure, and witg Hyrule Warriors, MK8, and 100% 3D world, it might be my most played home console this year, and it definitely will be once Smash is out. So I don't think I'd disagree, but I also love Nintendo most of the time.

Look. Another. This isn't me slamming the Wii U, it's me asking a question. I don't know why I bother.

Let's try this again. Here's a list of games that are scheduled for 2015 that I'm looking forward to:

Captain Toad
Yoshi's Woolly World
Splatoon
Mario Maker
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Kirby and The Rainbow Curse
Star Fox
The Legend of Zelda

Then we have some Mario Kart 8 DLC in the summer and possibly smaller exclusive indies like Affordable Space Adventures. I just feel that's a solid list with plenty of games right down my alley.

Now there's a separate question of what games could get delayed. Well the first four in the list are supposed to come out in the first half of 2015 so I doubt they'll get delayed. Here's the deal though: any game currently scheduled for 2015 might not make it. That's why I don't think it's terribly interesting to speculate about that. It's dependant on things we don't know about. So if I have to be perfectly clear my original statement really was "it's likely I'll like Wii U's 2015 lineup". So in any case you should look up how Nintendo handles pre-release "hype". They don't really talk about or reveal lots of information about their games until few months to the launch. It's nothing unusual. There's so much we don't know about Q1 2015 titles either! It's just how Nintendo handles things. Anyway I hope you understand I'm not really interested in speculating about possible delays any further because I don't really think that's interesting at all.

They're all disappointing, from one end to the other, honestly. I don't know why I haven't imported a Japanese 3DS yet; it feels like every week there's a release worth buying for the thing.

Why? I showed it to my boyfriend and he is fine with it.

I'm fine with her sexualization, but the camera's tasteless, voyeuristic closeups of her crotch or ass or chest just make me feel dirty. When she directs your attention to one of the aforementioned regions, it's fine. When the camera forces you onto them, it's creepy.

Man, I had all but forgotten about Splatoon. That game looks like some Team Fortress type crack, hope it makes an early 2015 appearance.
