It's shocking to me how much Nintendo missed a huge opportunity by not having a console with specs on par this time: in this generation only the exclusives matter now (as every other game is on every possible platform as long as the specs are here). If Nintendo had third parties, they would wipe everyone out. Their exclusives are so fucking better than everyone else.
I don't think they would have.
Let's imagine the Wii U's power was between PS4 + Bone.
What would have happened?
"Shall I get that Nintendo console or a PS4?"
"Get a PS4, Nintendo is for kids"
or
"Get a PS4, it's a bit better than the Nintendo console"
or
"Get a PS4, we can't afford both because both are really expensive"
"So our new 'mature' game that we are creating. For what platforms should we create it?"
"PS4 + Bone of course, Nintendo is for kids and 'mature' games don't sell on it. The audience is just children, no teenager and no adult buys it"
Which means it would have resulted in a way too expensive Nintendo console, that wouldn't have sold well - maybe even worse, because it would have been way too expensive on top of having the Nintendo name on it. Also see: Nintendo Gamecube.
We already saw what happened on Wii. The best selling console of a generation. Which was skipped by most larger publishers. There are quite a few hidden gems, but even the obvious simple ports never happened (for example PS2 GTA collection).
And I'm pretty sure all of that would even happen, in case Nintendo created the console with the most power out there.
Too bad bloodborne is forcing me to get a ps4 soon.
I'm happy that Dark Souls 2 has ruined the series that much, that I have no desire for that game at all.
Right? They're still on those systems and make up their library. How does the game lessen because it's on another platform?
When I already own a PS3, why should I buy a new console? I can already play those games on my last gen machine. Wait, in case I was actually interested, I would have already played some of them a year ago.
