OPM Teaser Page Basically Confirms Modern Warfare 3

Seems like every day I'm asked at my store if the next CoD is Modern Warfare 3. If it is, expect games to bail out of November once again with the quickness.

This is correct. Sometimes I wonder though how much actual id tech 3 code is still in there.

At this point, probably as much as there is Quake code in Source.

The 3 does indeed look like the Battlefield 2's "2", but the green color is so Modern Warfare 2... I find it hard for Battlefield 3 to go and use that green.

Looks like we need this in this thread...

the '3' looks quite a bit different..

It is a smart plan in a business sense, if your shit keeps selling why not pump one out every year, I expect Activision to release COD games yearly, soon as they see a dip in sales, they will give the franchise a break for 2 years and then release "Call of Duty 5" the true sequel, then continue to make yearly sequels, where the cycle begins again.

I am not denying itÂ’s a good business model that has made activision a lot of money, but itÂ’s a short term, short sighted business model that relies on you finding a new IP or hook if your audience starts to get fatigued by the product. For me this is why activision tied up Bungie's next I.P, not just for another money maker but also a product that they can fall back on if COD sales start to dip.

Yeah another call of duty game, how exciting!!!

Sequels sell. Which is why were are getting another Zelda, another Uncharted, another Assassins Creed, another Mass Effect ect.

They could have shown a M, then showing a M upside-down, and a M sideways that would spell out the name. Pretty cool coincidence.

Modern Warfare 3 vs Battlefield 3 vs Gears of War 3 vs Uncharted 3 vs Resistance 3

The battle of the 3's this fall, I personally will be getting into Uncharted 3 multiplayer (it also helps that the game will likely also have the best campaign).

sometimes i think video game companies wouldn't even need more than 2 or 3 guys in the marketing department, who browser gaf and steal the ideas posted there
yeah, pretty awesome idea

as for the game, meh
mediocre graphics, the 4th rehash of the once-brilliant multiplayer of cod4 and a 5-6h campaign
yeah, no thanks
i might rent it but i certainly won't buy it

I like the Call of Duty games I'll admit, but while playing Black Ops it felt really stale. They're going to have to reinvent the series before I think about getting one, and Activision won't do that. It's going to be same old same old

Still running on that Quake 3 engine too.

Huh. How odd that this would be revealed in a Playstation magazine, considering Call of Duty's ties with MS...
also isnt there still a huge legal battle going on to see if they can even make MW3?

OPM will probably not be the only place to read about MW3 next month.

I am done with Call of Duty

Hate to say it, But I think Im with you on this. Love the Series, I do. But the way Activision and Kotick are treating the series, It's just gone sour.... Here's why (to me at least):

1: three separate COD's have been out since the first Modern Warfare, yet none of them seem to be as good as COD4. I swear, I can play any of the newer ones, get pissed at something shitty (one man army + danger close in MW2; bad hit detection in BO) Yet go back to COD4 and label the game as near perfect.

2: $15 DLC... Seriously?

3: Infinity Ward was a great developer once.

4: On the inside, all of them are virtually the same game to me.

I'm hoping MW3 mixes it up a bit. Otherwise I dont think I'll be that interested. Sure I wanna finish the story after that MASSIVE cliff hanger at the end of MW2. But Multiplayer wise, I need something new.

Again guys Activision is still in that legal battle yes? If so they couldnt exactly release this even if announced.

Hmmm. Forgot about that.. could Vince and Jason put a cease and desist on that?

Nobody is denying that the game will be a success.

The legal action doesn't preclude them from releasing this game.
never mind then

Still done with Call of Duty, its the new Guitar Hero of the FPS genre and we all know it.

I imagine the general framework is identical, and there's lots of bits of code here and there which is untouched. Graphics code could be completely rewritten for all we know.

I think this is something which most developers do. You don't have a lot to gain by completely rewriting an engine from scratch (well, unless there's something very fundamentally wrong with it, at which point you shouldn't use it in the first place). You might as well iterate on it and re-write parts of it to make it more optimized or to support new features.

As much as I hate to say it, this will probably beat Black Ops record again for most successful entertainment launch in history.

I know I'll be in the line for it >__>

It's probably going to beat Black Ops records unless they botch this up big time.

Most people seem to attribute the MW name or even number CODs with higher quality. They just need to market this even bigger than Black Ops and it will break numbers.

I would say that I am part of the problem, I have played every COD since the original. COD2 and COD4 are my favorites.

With Battlefield 3 getting 7x the reserves of BC2 and it being a straight competition with 100mil market budget...I doubt MW3 will get away easily, will it outsell BF3? Probably but will it outsell Black Ops? Probably not.
