Ok... so I know my score is decent, but wth is wrong with my disk test scores... especially the "random uncached write" score.

Is there something I can do?

There is nothing wrong. Could be the power save features, could be the amount of space you have on the drive, could be ANYTHING. Its a random read/write. The test is largely unrepeatable because its all random. At any rate, is your machine actually performing poorly?

Mine is anomalously low as well, although I really should have closed down most of the stuff I was running before running it.

dude, get some more ram!

(Im actually looking to sell my 512mb stick if you're interested)

Anyway, thanks for posting your stuff, I guess for a macbook with 1.5 gb of ram my score is pretty good!

Thanks guys

My score is just about the same as yours, Phoenix. Also a MacBook Pro 1,1. 2.16Ghz.

I'd run it on my Mac Pro but I don't feel like rebooting out of Vista at the moment.

This seems a good of a place as any to ask...I'm looking to up my MBP to 2GB RAM as soon as I can. But unlike my iBook, I'm not seeing easy access to the RAM slots.
Anyway. What's the best quality/deal on ram for this sumbitch and could I easily do it myself?

how much for the RAM? I only have 512 MB in my 11inch Powerbook, I am looking for another 512

Based on current ebay prices I would say 25 plus shipping is reasonable. Any clue if pc5300 ram works in powerbooks?

I only scored an 85 with my Macbook. 2 ghz Core Duo and 2GB ram. I think my hard drive is really slow. I'd love to get a 200 gig.

Presuming you're talking about the same 12 inch Powerbook G4 model I have (I don't think there were ever any 11 inch models), then you've got a slight problem. If it came out of the factory with 512MB of RAM, then it's in two modules, one 256MB module that's physically part of the motherboard (you can't replace or remove it), and one removable 256MB stick. This means that if you pick up a 512MB stick of compatible RAM you'll have to remove the 256MB stick to install it, leaving you with 768MB, rather than a gigabyte. I'd say you're better off putting up the extra money for a 1GB stick to bring the system to 1.25GB total, as it'll provide much more in the way of extra performance for your money.

On a side note: running XBench after your machine's be on for three days straight and with a pile of programs running in the background isn't much of a good idea. I re-ran the program today just after turning it on and managed to get a score of about 47 (I know, still crap, but an improvement nonetheless).

Is it under the battery? I seem to recall some models having the RAM slots under there.

The ram in the MBP is a bitch to change. It is underneath the battery and it feels like you are going to snap something off when you pull the sticks out.

I don't know about any quality deals on ram, but I am interested in upping my MBP from 1gig to 2 as well.

I think I may just be a whiney little bitch and bring my MBP to an Apple Store. Upgrading my iBook a few years back was easy enough, but I guess I can squander a bit more money. **** it. Don't feel like messing around.

Its not as east as the MacBook, but its still easy and yeah you can do it yourself. I did mine and it didn't take more than like 10 minutes.

That wouldn't make your hard drive any faster :).

Ya I know, but it might as well be bigger. I think they do make faster models of like 160 GB, but I wouldn't want to risk overheating or anything. Anyways 80GB just isn't enough.
