Oscars: New Inclusion Standards Announced to Qualify for Best Picture

Funny how the lead actor list can be summed up as "everyone that isn't white applies". Cause english, french, german, irish, [list of the rest of europe] people are all the same thing, yep.
It's essentially a discrimination by perceived race...but since they're the Good Guys™ it's fine.

Why is Hollywood so vulnerable to far left? It's full of powerful closeted conservatives like Spielberg and Bay that could unite with Clint and Mel to drive the crazy out.

What happened to "the best film wins"? It can be argued that setting constraints and "inclusion standards" is automatically excluding other stuff, so it's basically setting a bias. Well, the Oscars are shit anyway, so no big loss.

It's good to see people of colour and minorities treated as quotas and check-boxes to be ticked off so a movie can make some "Oscar worthy" list.

This is so ridiculous. Let artists decide the content of their movie, not be dictated by some Orwellian overlord.

I think the oscars have lost whatever cultural significance it might have enjoyed at least a decade ago, so this is kind of 🤷‍♂️

Just confirmation that modern films increasingly function as vessels for leftwing propaganda. The people behind this sort of stuff are fanatics.

Does being a fucking idiot count as a “cognitive disability”, because I feel like most movie characters are thick as bricks anyway.

These were already the rules, they're just now being spelled out.

Who gives a shit about the oscars anymore anyway

I work in the film business at the vfx end of things. I'm already seeing this sort of thing in diversity hire quotas actually holding up the hiring of key talent as unseen forumlas from the higher ups are not being met/being worked out.

To be honest, just finding people who are actually good at the job and crucially, available is a pretty hard task in such a specialist industry. Nobody cares what you look like, or how old you are. If you've got the talent and right mentality you're in.

Growing up I was always taught to see people as people and not define people around race/sexuality/etc. It feels like society is moving backwards.

Well this just makes them completely irrelevant. Might as well rename all the awards to include quotations marks and an asterisk: "Best Movie*"

Wait, they have Latinx but not Womxn? Missed opportunity for more virtue points.
I like how the group of people being referred to as "Latinx" overwhelmingly reject the use of Latinx, but hey woke white people always know best

Yeah my family hates the term. It’s ridiculous and not needed.

I mean I do get that movies and directors are not diverse in Hollywood but this is a bad solution.

Oscars will be marginalised even more and Oscar bait movies will be token filling the criteria. There must be better incentives than this.

Only retarded people use that term. No ofense to the people with the actual disability though.

It's funny that european period dramas are not going to be eligible, yet they were once a favorite of the Academy.

The Shape of Water, the film that won best picture three years ago, would no longer be eligible. Regardless of the fact that it was the first movie in I believe 12 years with a female lead to win best picture. Fuck Sally Hawkins though, she's white.

As a Hispanic, that shit pisses me the fuck off.

Man, this reads as a joke. As satire.

Oscars have been a joke for a while now. This just makes it official.

Best Picture has basically had these rules already for 10-15 years. It's a common joke that any overtly artsy film is oscar bait. Now it's just transparent.
  • 2020 - "Parasite
  • 2019 - "Green Book"
  • 2018 - "The Shape of Water"
  • 2017 - "Moonlight"
  • 2016 - "Spotlight"
  • 2015 - "Birdman"
  • 2014 - "12 Years a Slave"
  • 2013 - "Argo"
  • 2012 - "The Artist"
  • 2011 - "The King's Speech"
  • 2010 - "The Hurt Locker"
  • 2009 - "Slumdog Millionaire"
  • 2008 - "No Country for Old Men"
  • 2007 - "The Departed"
  • 2006 - "Crash"
  • 2005 - "Million Dollar Baby"
  • 2004 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"
  • 2003 - "Chicago"
  • 2002 - "A Beautiful Mind"
  • 2001 - "Gladiator"
I haven't seen every one of these. Probably Gladiator, Lord of the Rings would be disqualified. Not sure about Argo. Probably The Departed. Probably The Hurt Locker too, and maybe even The King's Speech.
To be fair, Parasite deserved it. Green Book, TSOW and Moonlight are egregious choices though. Mahershala Ali is a solid actor but doesn't deserve either of his Oscars.

Lol you can game this system so easily and produce something they would hate but adheres to their rules.

White Straight (American) Male goes on an adventure to save a girl in a savage foreign country that is in turmoil due to one (non white) group ethnic cleansing another (nonwhite) group that is the minority. A white Straight Women went into said country thinking she could end the violence cuz she is a privileged upper middle class white woman. When in country she is taken by the leader of the "bad" group of savages as his love slave. White dude goes fights bad guy and saves white girl. Was the minority group saved from genocide? IDK, important part was he got the pretty girl.

BAM we qualified with that hot garbage!

A1. Lead or significant supporting actors - The main bad guys is whatever kinda people live in savage nation. Dude will get second or third most lines easily. We will put him prominently on the poster. Looking bad of course... cuz hes the bad guy.
A2. General ensemble cast - Everyone but the main two protagonist would be whatever kinda people. We will give a few some token lines.
A3. Main storyline/subject matter - Film is about the horrors of ethnic cleansing and human trafficking
