Speaking of over used sound effects. What's the sound effect in this video at 1:39? Just wondering because I hear this scream everywhere. Is it the Wilheim scream but just low?
That squeaky/rusty door opening. You know the one. Drives me crazy every time I hear it.

Not the Wilhelm, but don't know if it has a name. For some reason, I always associated it with a tie-fighter flyby....
This one isn't *overused* but I remember it from playing the hell out of Diddy Kong Racing and I hear it every once in a while in TV

There is a clip of radio chatter that is used in like every cop show.
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dklA4-ACN4k#t=00m25s
I found threads on audio-related forums that point to the sound effect in the OP being a cymbal, waterphone, or drying rack played with a bow.
Samples:
Cymbal (go to 0:52 and 1:57 for the closest sounds)
It's all over the Metal Slug games.
Pretty hilarious in them too.
Seems like nobody read the OP.
Yup. Once I started noticing it, I couldn't stop.
That stock cat sound whenever something falls offscreen. You know the one.
Reading this during work.. I could practically hear it. hahahaThat and youraagh! Those just stuck out too much because they're in everything. Youraagh was in Crash Bandicoot 2 where one enemy made that sound everytime you killed him.
Anyone know the name of this sound effect? It plays around the nine second mark, it has really been bugging me cause I hear it quite often but I search for it and there doesn't seem to be any info.
It's this overplayed fireball sound that I cannot stand.

They also mentioned Spectrasonics Omnisphere, which is widely used in Hollywood and coincidentally has several drying rack-related sounds.
OMG ink master uses that like 12 times an episode
Bar Rescue uses it like every five minutes.

That helps narrowing it downDon't know what it's called but it's clearly a pig's squeal slowed down listening to it.

Everyone who played Super Smash Bros. knows that one.Without a doubt, this horribly fake crowd gasping has been getting a lot of use lately. I first heard it in a trailer while working at a movie theater five or six years ago and it still makes me cringe.
