Over-Used Sound Effect in TV

There;s a stock door knob sound that I can't stand that gets used in EVERYTHING. I'll try to find it, but searching for door knob sound effects is strange.

I'm assuming it's this one from the vid (more precise time): http://youtu.be/akDWOUTev7o?t=30m39s

I fucking hate that sound. It only exists to try and enhance tense/dramatic moments.

A friend who used to do video editing told me years ago that it's just a small group of people who end up editing the bulk of reality shows. Probably the same with sound and everything else. The resulting reality show "style" is maddening.

THIS is probably one of the most overused sound sample ever (at least movie-wise).

Yes, I know, already mentioned in the thread a bunch of times. Just posted one of my favorite times it's been used.

Lol at people who read the title and not the actual post

You all wouldve just failed an application for not reading it carefully

No idea about the OP, but I notice this kind of thing all the time. You know that "dispatcher chatter" sound when you place a police station in SimCity 3000? I swear it's in every TV show featuring a crime scene.

"Opening a metal door in Resident Evil 4" is another one that I hear all the time in movies and TV.

I found threads on audio-related forums that point to the sound effect in the OP being a cymbal, waterphone, or drying rack played with a bow.

Samples:
Cymbal (go to 0:52 and 1:57 for the closest sounds)

Yup, all the time on a bunch of Food Network reality TV shows.

Seems like nobody read the OP.

Why would you expect otherwise?

That stock cat sound whenever something falls offscreen. You know the one.

I. Fucking. Hate. That. Shit.

STOP USING FAKE CAT SHRIEKS AND MEOWS.

So annoying.

I hate the old-time bullet ricochet sounds, too. Those were in almost every movie that involved a gun and sounded so lame.

That and youraagh! Those just stuck out too much because they're in everything. Youraagh was in Crash Bandicoot 2 where one enemy made that sound everytime you killed him.
Reading this during work.. I could practically hear it. hahaha

Fox has got to be the worst offender when it comes to overusing sound effects. I swear the sound effects I heard in World Wildest Police Videos over a decade ago are being used today in those annoying Gordon Ramsay shows...

They also mentioned Spectrasonics Omnisphere, which is widely used in Hollywood and coincidentally has several drying rack-related sounds.

Yeah these noises are very similar. I think you're on the right track. For a sound effect that has been used so often, you'd think there would be a stock name for the .wav

OMG ink master uses that like 12 times an episode

Very much so hahaha.

Bar Rescue uses it like every five minutes.

Yep!

as someone who works on designing sound for film I constantly am paying attention to this. the thing ive noticed the most is fake burnouts and break squeals on cars. that shit just doesnt happen

There's a certain "baby crying" sound I often hear in everything from cartoons to movies and tv shows. I can't find the exact one but I know it's the same when I hear it.

Haha, fuck that sound. Actually fuck all these american reality shows for being so manipulative in any way they can.

Fuck most of these sounds. Whenever I hear them, it takes me out of whatever I'm watching.

Especially Wilheim, that other yell, and the children ho ho ha ha-ing.
