Overlord II - The official thread of Minions

While I do not actually see the lower framerate on the Xbox360 version, I can tell that it is suffering at times because my eyes start to get tired after a few hours of playing. Also happens with Red Faction btw.

Yeah, it's not so much about seeing slowdowns but feeling how sluggish the game performs and feels. Although there are also pretty massive slowdowns from time to time. For me it's extremply important that a game feels "right" when I control it and framerate sub 30 almost always destroy the immersion for me. This one here is far beyond 30 most of the time I'd guess.

Well, after playing 3-4 hours, it's still Overlord, so it's still good. But that
giant spider
was the worst boss I encountered in recent memory. So bad. The camera problems are still there, and that boss shows you just how awful it can be.

I couldn't figure it out at first (didn't move the flower), then tried some stuff and it worked. It just takes a long time (and minions) to beat it.

The section that immediatly follows it though.. that was frustration central. The game doesn't have more of those after that, fortunately. Maybe the approach to the final area (the third hill and the bomb throwers, aargh..) and the final boss, but that's about it.

Looking at this thread makes me wonder why this game seems to lack the popularity of its predecessor though.

Because it isn't exclusive and the framerate is abysmal on PS3 (and 360 too from what I heard).

Really? From what I've read in reviews, it did sound that bad. Although the framerate in the demo was kinda shakey.

Because it's not as good. The story and gameplay are very half-assed compared to the first. The only improvement that was made was obviously the graphics, but everything else just seemed rushed and the game had no direction whatsoever.

Pity too, because the first game was such a treat.

Almost finished it, and I've gotta say, Overlord II feels like Diet Overlord.
Just when the whole story and gameplay picks up pace, you finally got all your minionhives, it says "OK, here's the final battle." I was hoping collecting the hives was just the intro, getting you familiar with the various miniontypes, so you can effectively layeth the smacketh down in the main game.
Besides that, minions got dumbed down I think. IIRC Minions would collect new gear if they came across it, even if they were just following you. Overlord II requires you to actually send them to the gear. Same goes with lifeforce and gold.
The
towncontrol was a letdown too. It holds no rewards for you as an overlord whatsoever. Controlling it's citizens was no reward either, if anything those asses would just get in the way of an effective smiting.

And why the hell can't I assign minions to resourcegathering? There's those pink crystals growing like crazy in the Sanctuary, I have 600+ browns, why can't I order them to forage pink crystals, creating a steady flow of pink crystals that allows me to forge new items?

It's a nice game, but sweeping is as much a pain in the ass as it was in the first game, the camera is still retardation at it's finest, it's almost as if they stopped caring.
