Overly patriotic American imagery

bamelin should totally become a deputized american

Aww shucks.

I constantly tell my wife we should move to America. She's a nurse so we'd get in easy. The main issue is that while she would be able to work easy, it might take me at least a year to year(s) to get a work visa. Her line of work they toss visa's at (she is a Registered Nurse). My line of work ... not so much based on my credentials. Might take me a year or 2. While I have years of social work experience working with street involved youth, I do not have the Univesity credentials immigration looks for.

All that aside our whole familes are in Canada with the exception of a few (treasured) cousins in the US. Those cousins btw served in Iraq and helped to teach us alot about what it means to be American ... love them for that. Marines through and through from Michicgan near Detroit and they love America to death. Gievn how Detroit has fallen apart their patriotism makes me respect America even more. They FUCKING LOVE THEIR COUNTRY despite the ghetto Detroit has become.

Wife would never leave our family here in Toronto. Regardless I would love to move to America. Many years ago I handled PR for a UK based video game website. Multiple PR trips to America. I loved those trips Even my trips outside of my work to Buffalo (I live in Toronto) were fantastic. Amazing restaurants, amazing prices, pride of God (no matter what religion), and country.

I don't give a shit what anyone says. America is awesome. If my entire family wasn't here in Canada and it wasn't so hard for me personally to get a work visa I would move there in a heart beat. A few generalitlies from my time in Michigan. 7.99 for a 12 pack? Hell yeah. Massive houses for under 300 k? Hell yeah. Everyone with a cell phone and car regardless of age? That's how Americans roll bitches. 0.99 value menues at multiple fast food restaurants? *gif* Merica *gif* Massive America flag at EVERY car dealership you pass on the highway? Hell Yeah.

My jokes aside. Americans are awesome. All my US friends have a desire to see the world a better place. Americans may kill each other arguing over how to do that, but their hearts are in the right place. I say that as a guy who has been all over the US, from NYC, to San Fran, to Vegas, to Tampa Bay, to D.C. to Virginia, to Chicago, etc .... I admit I need more western mid west experience ... but regardless I feel like I've gotten a good taste of America.

Americans are awesome and if I could move there I would. I love Canada too mind you, but America is the shit. I often wish that American and Canada were one country. I love so much about both.

Yeah the hardest problem you guys have to deal with is finding the perfect building to jump off of.

Yes, there is a lot of suicide in Korea.

But Koreans work their ass off. The MOST hard-working people on the planet! Korea came from just a pile of shit (after Korean War) and become one of the strongest nations today. While Japan is crumbling to their own stupidity (no foreigner-friendly relationship, no openness to the outside world, low birth-rate), Korea is climbing all the way to the top.

You don't see Korea flags on cars bumpers, you don't see a flag on every freaking house, you don't see a flag in every movie released. You don't see tattoos and all that.

Technically American.

Damn, man. I'm a not-especially-patriotic American but whenever I meet guys like you with so much passion I wish I could will you a visa. It's cool that you get to travel so much. I've been to a lot of places in the US, and while I'd like to see more I'd also really enjoy being able to visit Canada. The most I've seen is a day trip to Montreal while visiting relatives in upstate New York.

whats wrong with celebrating the greatest empire in human history?

we gave you the iphone, the internet, the computer you are on right now is running an operating system designed by us, you want to watch our movies, our music, worried about our stock market at wallstreet, united nations builds its hq here, you grew up eating our food in mcdonalds and burgerkings no matter what country you were in, we destroyed the crumbling british empire in 1776 and saved the world in ww2 from hitler and took you to space. pretty much your entire modern existence is built around something America gave to you.

but celebrating it? nooooooo, that just hurts too much doesnt it?

1)greatest empire ever = rome
2)samsung > iphone
3)archaic version of "the internet" existed but Tim Berners-Lee (britisch) invented the world wide web
4)mcdonalds & burgerking = shit
5) won independence only because of massive french contributions/help
6)ww2 = soviets did most of the work
7) space tryout was an epic failure by americans = only succeeded by bringing over werner von brauns team

there you go my friend

isn't their a king of the hill episode where they raise and lower the american flag everyday and play the national anthem? either way, it is my dream to do that one day

Quebec is like a whole other country (awesome in it's own right) compared to the rest of Canada.

If you or any other GAF'er is in downtown Toronto, an open invite exists from me to show you around the the town. My personal patriotism towards America I often think is a result of my back ground ... family was right wing evangelicals. With that said I was brought up thinking America is the reason we have our freedoms. I still think that, while still proud of what my country has done to help protect those freedoms.

When I think "America" I think "freedom, justice, freedom of religion, speech, press, the freedom to say what you fucking feel and not be arrested for it (see Turkey), a country with a high standard of living with cheap goods (aka walmart, target, etc), and most of all cheap standard of living over all".

To me the ideal live would be to go to Church on Sunday, Famer's market afterwards, a Walmart Superstore on Wednesneday (both for groceries, as well as goods), and on Saturday a provincial (state in the US) fair involving rides, alcohol and BBQ's.

Actually living in Ontario thats pretty much what I do right now. We just don't have the same "FUCK YEAH AMERICA" that US citizens have (and I envy).

It's all about that true patriot love, man.

Not to mention Alan Turing, Bertrand Russell, Charles Babbage, etc, etc, etc.

America is good at two things IMOTBH, branding, and selling.

Not yet, just give it time...

...time for us to conquer the world.

This reminds me, one of the biggest eye-rolling moments in my life was watching that American Flag on Spiderman 3. Goddamn.

Spider-Man was on an American Flag pole in the first, and he swings away in between rows of them at the end of Spider-Man 2. Come on bro.

destroying the nazis > beating japan breh

Yeah, thanks for rolling in AFTER we took Okinawa, USSR. =(

I hear you man. Canadians are awesome too.

I just wanted to post to make sure our American friends know that when they hear bullshit about Canadians it is isn't true.

Basically as a Canadian this is what we know to be true about our US friends:

They LOVE their country

They are shit drunks

They are loud about ANY topic they are passionate about

After that it's all good. Americans man they'll do ANYTHING for you if you have a problem, state it clear and ask for help. Over the years I've gotten more help from US strangers than Canadians. Americans LOVE to help people. Whatever shit you have to say about the American Government, it's in the US psyche to help others.

Screw it, I will over sensitive your ass.

1) Your ethnocenterism is showing. Rome wasn't even the best empire in its own time, Han be-yatch
2) HTC >Samsung
3) Facebook App is how you should view the internet
4) Cornish Pasty = shit
5) Again, your ethnocenterism is showing. Holland financed us, and Spain took most of the Mediterranean for us.
6) You really hate Asians, as proven by this point, point 1, and your following post.
7) Moon.

nah I bet if I mentioned how one of those countries whose names I can't remember because they aren't important on a global scale sucked or was full of backwards rubes I'm sure someone from said country whose name I can't remember because it isn't important on a global scale would probably not find it very funny and take it personally, wherever non-America area they might be from.

WTF ARE YOU IMPLYING!11

oh lawd

I want to thank Canada for their greatest gifts to The United States. Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, and the Colorado Avalanche, Thanks Canada.

1) Fuck Rome. Did they have stealth jet aircraft and drones?
2) I have an S4 but I still respect Apple. And the S4 runs on Android from Google.
3) The USA helped fund CERN so that is part us too. And all the stuff underneath it is from the USA.
4) BurgerKing was owned by Brits. (Perhaps that has changed) And they are shit.
5) Indeed, stupid Americans need to respect the French more. Many cities have a Lafayette street and people don't know the reason why.
6) Sure. But we were critical in Europe AND mostly defeated Japan on our own.
7) True . . . but immigration has ALWAYS been key to our success. Yahoo, Google, Tesla, etc. . . . all founded by immigrants. They come here to succeed.

Not to mention Alan Turing, Bertrand Russell, Charles Babbage, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah Turing was a hero. And the Brits fucking prosecuted him because he was gay until he ultimately decided to kill himself.

There are a lot of impressive people from non US countries. And it is amazing how many of them end up in the USA because it is the best place to study, start companies, thrive, etc.

Spider-Man was on an American Flag pole in the first, and he swings away in between rows of them at the end of Spider-Man 2. Come on bro.

Eh? Didn't he land in a front of a wavy american flag on 3? Right before rescuing Mary Jane?

How the shot was made was clear to me that it was one of those overly patriotic shit that's so laughable.

Well don't down-play Canada. It is a great place. The diplomats would say "The USA has no better friend than Canada." But I'd say that Canada is the USA's closest ally. (There is a difference, parse it.) World's longest undefended border, a strong trade relationship, a common bond from an origin from the British Empire, etc. Of course I'm from Minnesota, so I'm biased toward Northern snowy liberal places.

Yeah, but I was just reminding people that those shots aren't exactly alien to the series.

because of that christian-democratic idea of universal equality
empires are not allowed to be proud of themselves anymore
that ole eagle is a roman symbol and i bet they didnt feel ashamed of their overt nationalism and imperialism

I think you mean because it has the most money.

I heard an interesting story in that it might have been an accident, turing was doing experiments at home with cyanide or something else thats incredibly poisonous and was a known clutz and sloppy lab worker. Its possible he may have fucked up. But as far as dealing with the LGBT community I don't think those who live in glass houses ought to throw stones.

I want to thank Canada for their greatest gifts to The United States. Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, and the Colorado Avalanche, Thanks Canada.
If I was from Quebec I would fight you right now, over the internet.

Anyways there's so many Canadians that have infiltrated your pop culture it's best not to worry about it too much.
