Overwatch - Soldier 76 Animated Short

This was... pretty sappy, but overall enjoyable. Better than Dragons to be sure, even if the action isn't quite as good.

These last two have been more blatantly about marketing than storytelling, imo. Alive and Recall had some heavier lore connections, which was cool. I'd like to see an actual ongoing story set in the 'verse, there's some real potential there, but it'd have to be more like those two and less like these two.
 
Bad guys beating up defenseless robot and steal little girl's money, bad guys get beaten up by brooding heroguy, the end.

This short was about as inspired as the design for Soldier 76, I guess in that way it's kind of fitting.

Weird decision to make this the last one.

And you dont know shit about Mexico if you think that in any scenario a mother its going to get angry at her daughter for not chasing criminals and risk getting raped, murdered or both
 
The problem was the lack of any story. Last 3 shorts had significant relevance to Overwatch as a whole. This was just batman fights some dudes.

I know that others on the Overwatch subreddit said that, they probably didn't want to go deep into Morrison character since we already know a bunch about him. So they probably wanted to explore how others view him now that he's a vigilante.

I don't know a thing about him because I haven't been reading much on Overwatch. Your argument is kind of invalid. These shorts are made to sell the game. If you've read up on the characters of the game, chances are you're already sold on the game. These videos don't have any prerequisites.
 
Pretty good, although I think these work better with more characters to play off of each other. All the others feature at least two.

This didn't really tell us much about 76 because we're looking in from the perspective of the girl.

I never claimed anything about Mexico, so moot point.
I do, however, have experience in American suburbs where "a mother its going to get angry at her daughter for not chasing criminals and risk getting raped, murdered or both" is a pretty common occurrence.
 
I could almost go as far as to say that Blizz has the worst writing team in the industry. They somehow manage to combine the cheesiness and melodrama of your average dreamworks movie to the blandness and predictability of a bad super hero movie. What comes out makes the average video game story feel like competent storytelling.

I really like that they are doing these. Its such a smart move making a bit of a back story for an online game. Gives a bit of attachment for some of the characters.
 
That was entertaining. And all I could think of when he was fighting those goons was "single-player campaign."
 
This short was alright if only for focusing on the girl rather than 76. Cliche but it's certainly not beating Dragons in that department.

Feels like a huge waste of potential. Nothing tying to Soldier 76's backstory and not much to do with his current plans. You could basically do this story with almost any of the heroes... Hell, it'd probably work better with McCree.

Animation was good and the writing wasn't awful (Outside the obnoxiously cliche "You saved me... Why?"). Liked the glowing tattoos the gang had, they made for a unique visual. I just really feel like this was a waste, especially since Soldier 76 has one of the most interesting stories behind him with the fall of Overwatch.

Recall remains the best of these animations.

It's releasing a day early but servers don't go up till Tuesday. If this is anything like blizzard's other releases, we'll have server issues to keep us occupied.

I really don't get the hype behind Dragons, everyone seems to like it the most. It's by far the worst of the shorts, atleast to me.

Recall > Alive > Hero > Dragons for sure.

Honestly, Soldier 76 had some of the best potential for an animated short. He has an interesting backstory as a former idealistic hero who became jaded and bitter, and his rivalry with Reaper is one of the main things that led to Overwatch's destruction.

But none of that is focused on here. Even obvious potential story beats like having the girl see that he looks like unmasked weren't attempted.
 
Dragons > Recall > Cinematic > Alive > Hero.

Dragons purely because of the environment, combat and camera work. Recall was sweet. I wanted more of the flashbacks, but I understand that it would've been too much work. Cinematic and Alive were both a bit silly but featured good combat scenes. This one, Hero, was the only bad one imo. It didn't excel in any regard. Far too cliche, crappy voice acting, and lackluster combat scenes that were not made up for with the girl's story imo.
 
Shit, no pendejo o cabron, in what part of the civilized neo mexican place is this short placed.

Also did the girl worked in a panaderia? (course you know, spanglish) , holy molly her Mama needs a better focus into the backery industry
 
that was a decent clip. probably would say this is better than the tracer one. id say the tracer one is the worst of the video clips

were the most predictable shit ever.

Still good, but definitely not up to the standard of previous shorts.
