Forgot about MechAssault, wasn't sure if Crimson was MS exclusive or not. It's mind boggling we didn't get a HD remake, a arcade version or SOMETHING this gen. Its befuddling.

I see. I heard that also, I just didn't know those fans were still around with the X360 based on what games seem to be most popular. As long as they bring it back, I will be happy, but I am not holding my breath. How long has fans been begging for this game? It is getting in Streets of Rage 4 territory now.

I don't think an HD collection would be a good idea at all. They'd only highlight how limited the games are by current standards.
A new game does have potential though, they'd definitely grab the core fans and there might be enough noise to get the attention of a lot more people. It would certainly create a buzz.

I and a lot of people have not played Shenmue though. Not many people with dreamcasts or og xbox's either. If there is a new shenmue coming, it would be crazy not to release Shenmue 1 and 2 in some form.
Halo 2 and Shenmue 3? Damn you MS. I guess I have to get an Xbone after all...

If they were going to revive Shenmue (it's not going to happen, stop dreaming), I think at this point it would make more sense to just reboot the whole saga.

Yeah a reboot would make more sense. I don't think the established fans would like that though.

A reboot makes the most sense. Just make Shenmue 1-3 into one game. That way, everyone is happy.

Is this your genuine rationale or is there more to it, because this reads an awful lot like salt.
Shenmue is extremely niche. Fans still holding out for a third a game would likely play it on whatever platform it comes out on. As far as SEGA is (probably) concerned, it's not a hugely important IP anyway. If they did they would have brought out Shenmue III years ago. SEGA is unlikely to care how much it does or doesn't sell so long as they get due compensation.
Who can write the bigger cheque and who is more likely to do so? Sony, the company with a healthy 1st party stable that rarely procures 3rd party exclusive deals, good PR standing, and who also happen to be in a bad financial way and therefore unlikely to invest in a game probably won't even break a million - or Microsoft, the company with deep pockets and in great need of positive PR with the hardcore gamer crowd. Adding to that the fact that there's never been a Shemue game on any Playstation platforms while both Shenmue I and II were both on the original Xbox, I really don't understand the rationale behind your assertion that no one wants Microsoft to deliver on Shenmue III.
Having said that, it would be hilarious if Sony procures Shenmue III anyway. There goes that opportunity for positive PR.

To me Shenmue 3 should never be made, only way around this is make a brand new Shenmue re-telling the story but then would it still have the same impact??....probably not

Shenmue 2 was ported to xbox in the US. Shenmue 1 could only be watched as a"movie" (cutscenes) on xbox.
In an alternate reality MS and Sony would team up to financially support S3 and just leave Suzuki-san and his team to create the game as they see fit without any greedy hands getting in the way.

I would really love someone to put out Shenmue 3. The story was really going to open up because Lan Di and Ziming are kind of like brothers. Both of them have the fire of revenge, a fire that burns everything in its path. Their quest is the reason why Ryo is on his. And just like them Ryo's fire draws people to him.
I also want to find out if Ryo turns out to be the Ryo from Virtua Fighter.

You seem to forget that the Xbox was treated as the Dreamcast 2 by SEGA for a little while. Lots of DC owners went straight from the DC to the Xbox.
BTW, I played Shenmue II on my Xbox.

That really depends. Back when Shenmue and Shenmue 2 came out, very few cared about the series or even knew what it was - it was all about PS2 and franchises like FF, MGS and DMC at the time. But over the years the games have attained legendary status, and even though Shenume 3 might not become a huge hit in today's market, it's one of core gamers' holy grails. Funding and releasing Shenmue today would definitely gain the publisher a lot of credibility among the core gamers, and the potential indirect benefit of such a vanity endeavor should not be understated.
