You lost me here. What do you feel Miiverse is supposed to be? A edgy hard-talk discussion site? It's the equivalent of the "friend activity" on steam, and does a great job as such, in my humble opinion. It should contain more automated information, like "Amir0x has recently been playing Pikmin 3" etc though.
And if you look forward to Bayo2, I really do hope you give W101 a fair shot. It's my goty so far
As a feature that is one of Nintendo's core and unique elements to their whole online approaches with the Wii U, I simply expect it to be something I actually want to participate in. Instead, it's actively cloying. It's a conglomerate of people who doggedly refuse to say anything negative, or when they do cloak the criticism in such sugary nonsense that it's basically like feeling your teeth rot from the inside out.
Do I need it to be a raucous place with sailor talk and tables being thrown at one another? No. Do I need it to feel like a place that fosters intelligent and even handed discussion, negativity and positivity in relatively balanced order? Yes. At least, something in the BALLPARK. This is just Nintendo dick grabbing 101, non-stop, 24 hours a day. It's actively painful to have to read any Miiverse comment. The only thing that is ever neat is those images, but you know what that novelty wore itself out ages ago for me. For me, it doesn't even serve a purpose it's so bad.
But that said, it's not like I care. I don't use the feature, haven't for ages. It was so bad I simply ignore it now. The reason I specifically mentioned it was because this is one of the elements that makes the Wii U 'distinctive' and is frequently used as a part of a package of things that makes the system appealing [in theory]. So I was saying that it's a nightmare, so I can't conceive of it ever being a real bulletpoint that can sell the system.
As for Wonderful 101, already played it thoroughly. I liked it a lot, but I will say I had some pretty major criticisms. It was one of my more anticipated games for the year but it'll probably end up just outside my top ten for the year now that I've actually played it. Pikmin 3 is higher up on my list.
What worries me most about the lack of online experiences is that Miyamoto hinted towards CPU constraints as the reason for the lack of it (in Pikmin 3). And honestly, that's the most sub-optimal part of the hardware. The graphics are fine, pikmin 3 is a good stride above anything possible to execute on ps360 in that regard, but if the CPU is hindering online functionalities I'd say they've made a poor design choice. :/
But let's wait for Smash and MK8 to conclude in this matter.
My thing is that especially if you're going to have a smaller userbase, it's important to have a tight, interconnected community for which you can cause a good word-of-mouth to build. But hey have so few real compelling and unique online experiences for the moment, much less from Nintendo themselves, that it's a real problem. People who are interested in those types of experiences might soon become conditioned to look elsewhere, which is not a position Nintendo wants to be in.
So I hope they can come up with some idea that is more complimentary to the Wii U than Wii Sports HD for a online system seller type of a game. Mario Kart should sell pretty damn well, at least, as should Smash.
