Pachter: PS3 + Move *is* Wii HD

I'll let him have this one, so long as PS3 sales are catagorized as Wii HD, ending any chance of PS3 catching the 360 in 2015. Can't have it both ways! ;)

Fantastic, I will look forward to playing Super Mario Galaxy 3 PS3 and MKPS3 soon

How someone as smart as Pachter comes up with this shit is beyond my realm of comprehension. He just doesnt get it.

"One of these days I'm going to find a loophole."

I don't think this is a copout, because he can't predict what decisions NCL is going to make. He predicted Wii HD because in his mind, Wii HD is the best move for Nintendo to make.

Nintendo is on the verge of - certainly not dropping into third place or anything - losing its dominance, because I really truly believe that Sony Move is the Wii HD.

And that's the sad part. After all this time, a highly paid video game analyst who works for a major firm STILL believes that HD is going to make the difference. He STILL believes that Wii is going to loose ground once customers notice the superior technology of its competitors. He studies this industry for a living, and yet he really doesn't understand it at all.

Now that Patcher made this stupid comment Nintendo is free to release the Wii HD

What? Havent you heard? Nintendo was holding it just because Iwata thinks Patcher is an ass.

As much as GAF detests the shovelware casual stuff, If Sony sticks to some "core" games only mantra for Move then they should just cancel the whole project.

Move and Natal will live or die based on casual reception.

They can make GOOD casual games, and not just the same random crap that you can buy real cheap that last 5 mins, looks like crap, plays like crap and is plain crap.

Pretty confident he's serious, even if the delivery is amusing.
Nah, as someone else said he's always a bit tongue in cheek. This is classic Pachter. :lol

And it's even more hilarious to see people get so worked up about it. OH MAN THAT PACHTER WE SHOULD BAN HIS NAME ON THE FORUMS! Give me a break. :lol :lol

I see why Pachter collective refers to people on the internet as babies. Don't take his predictions so personally.
I'm not sure making a glib post that takes all of five seconds really qualifies as taking things personally.

What happened to your Mario avatar? :(

That was two avatars ago! I've had Iron Man Scribblenauts since then :lol

I lost the Mario one though :(

Didn't have a backup copy, forgot where I hosted it, and couldn't find it even after a few hours of searching google style.

So I went with my favorite band, the Pogues.

I got a free broken PS3 (without a HD). It will cost me €80 to get fixed. I was wondering what to play on it since I hate Dual Analogue controls with the heat of a thousand fiery suns.

Move Wii HD here I come....

No, no. Lets just work under the premise that the PS3 + Move is Wii HD. It'll be more fun that way.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the notion and imagine all it entails, but I can't. The awesome/ridicule is too mind-crushing.

I'm thinking this as well, but it is kinda funny if you think about it:

The Move is:
- More sensitive
- Better Looking
- Bigger "Components"
- and has great Endurance

Man, sounds like a soccer mom's dream system to me.

It's also just an add-on instead of being an integrated part of the console. On Wii games need to use Wiimote one way or another, because that's the main controller; on PS3, however, it's developer's decision whether to use Move or completely ignore it. Of course it may be viewed as a good thing (it depends whether or not someone like waving and shaking their controllers in order to play games), but still, PS3 + Move != Wii HD.

So.........3 and 1/2 years later, the Wii is still the no. 1 selling console in the US by a good margin, and Pachter STILL thinks it's losing relevance? I just don't get it!

Someone take his shovel away. :(

:o I was wondering where you had gone. :lol I honestly must've skipped your Iron Man posts because I was always looking for that Mario av.

Why did you reply seriously to a dick joke?

He didn't notice the dick joke. I didn't either until you pointed it out. I have an excuse for not noticing it (-1 wisdom teeth + vicodin in the past 24 hours), but I have to wonder if catching on to it immediately might indicate some sort of penis fascination......

Well, I am quite insatiable when it comes to the cock.

Pachter in 2007:
He sees the falling costs of graphics processors and rising public demand for high definition possibly leading Nintendo to release a Wii that can output in HD in "two to three years."

"Consumers may hope for improved graphics, and my guess is that Nintendo will comply," Pachter told GamePro. An HD Wii would necessarily be an all-new console, with games designed for HD graphics
http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2007/08/01/pachter-predicts-hd-wii/

By the end of the cycle, though, Pachter predicts, "we see Sony 'winning' the console war in American and European regions with 36% of the market, with Nintendo 'capturing' second place at 34% and Microsoft finishing third at 30%" -- a virtual "dead heat," with all three generating "significant profits." Japan, however, is expected to be "dominated by Nintendo (51% through 2011) and Sony (44%)."

In a way, it's not surprising, and he's by no means the only one. His perspective on how the videogame industry works was formed upon the trends of the past few generations. When fundamental tenets of the industry changes, he doesn't recognize it, and uses out of context bits of data and excuses to justify his rigid view. A fundamental shift in the way one thinks is the most difficult and uncomfortable shift to make. It's really evident in some of the previous threads that he continues to think in an old paradigm despite legit posters countering the reasoning that lead to his conclusions.

P.S. I still love Pach-attack.
