I don't see how the cg looks bad either, I don't know what more you could ask for in a movie involving big robots beating the shit out of big monters.

Great CG..

I don't want monster and robot CGI look too "real" anyway, they must still look 2Dish enough to me with the coloring and such.. I think they succeeded.

the 'cancelling the apocalypse' speech is probably a homage to super robo hotblooded speeches given by the characters before big battles, anyone that has watched a super robo show will smile at that line.

Yeah . . . I was saddened by my ability to assess the cg shots as quick as I did.

I think I would be more surprised if you couldn't tell the gigantic raging monster wasn't done with practical effects. I'm just happy that we're basically getting the Power Rangers Megazord battle we deserve. (I never watched Evangelion, so this is the closest connection I could make aside from Gundam)

It's weird to me that I've been hearing for years how a lot of this was "shot" in Toronto but it hardly matters, such an effects heavy film.

Parts of Toronto were transformed to look like other cities (Tokyo).

New trailer has me more on board, than the previous ones. Definitely going to check this one out day one.

I love how Charlie day is in this and Guillermo Del Toro was in Sunny.

That was the greatest thing ive seen in my entire life.
I can die happy knowing ive seen a giant robot hit a monster in the face with an oil tanker.

I like the broad strokes, but the details are leaving me less interested. The two pilot conceit seems utterly unnecessary and just logic breaking.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the CGI from a technical perspective. Seems it's not made out to look completely realistic, sort of like Speed Racer. The strangely colorful lighting at night gives it a cartoonish look. It doesn't go all the way like SR though, so it's stuck in the middle of the road of looking off. This movie is definitely never going to look "real".

Maybe Xia can elucidate now that he's not at ILM anymore. :P
Yeah i got Speedracer vibes too.
It doesn't look "off" to me, though.

people want logic in a film about giant robots against giant monsters.

When I see a giant robot fight a giant alien in the middle of a city, I always analyze the structural integrity of the robots ship bat. It should not be able to withstand all the torque.

In a perfect world this movie would end with all the mecha combining into some super form and beat the shit out of some ridiculous oversized monster.

I'd love a David Hayter easter egg in here somehow.

"METAL GEAR?!"

But I'm a nerd who just watched Final Fantasy Advent Children last night, so what do I know?

Huge fucking monsters? Check!
Big fucking robots? Check!
Stupendous details and CG? Check!

The best thing is that this movie doesn't use a familiar brand name for it's commercial enterprise!
(yeah i despise Bayformers and Fuckzilla with such a goddamn passion that even the most fundamentalist lunatic would shake their head in disbelieve)

Now lets hope there isn't some lame ass over dramatised love/friendship/family side story that takes away precious monster/robot on screen action time.

One ticket for the Day 1 hypetrain, please!

CG really isn't up to par for what they're trying to pull off. And I can't get around how contrived the two dudes in mind sync thing is. And I keep thinking...do they give these giant robots weapons? Or did they build giant punching machines? And there's something about the way they're trying to convey size and weight of the robots and monsters that also makes them look slightly too slow, like they're under water. I get what they're trying to do in terms of scale but something about it isn't working.

I want to be on board with giant robots smashing it up with giant monsters, done right. But nothing I've seen in the footage looks appealing. :\
