Paint.NET has changed my life (in this thread I evangelise Paint.NET)

I use paint.net for small jobs when I need a quick crop or whatever but I usually use Photoshop for anything that really needs any attention to detail.

As someone who hasn't used Photoshop since CS2 (I know, I know) and never got the hang of Gimp, this is interesting to hear.

I like that these middle ground suites exist as a much lighter alternative to photoshop but there's something to be said about artistic form of expression that is the low-fi magic that is [PC ]Paint[brush]. If you think of visual humor as a circle and all of humor through time falling in the spectrum of the points that form the circle, the point that holds the highest hilarity for me would be occupied by outputs from both Paint and Photoshop.

No free, but the best app easy to use and with multple options is Corel Photo Paint (last version is X7) not confuse with Corel Painshop Pro, this is like Paint plus XD.

I've been using it since v.8 and no contest if you are looking for great image editor but not as professional as Photoshop is.

I used to use this for when I was too lazy to open up Photoshop but honestly, even as an occasional user, I'm so accustomed to Photoshop's environment that I find it more work than it's worth to switch programs.

Same here. I've been using Photoshop for so long (20 years) that everything else feels bassackward.

I only ever use it for when I take screenshots of my desktop. This is usually to post on GAF, or to crop a diagram from an e-textbook i'm reading in order to insert into an Anki notecard when a graph shows intuitive ways to think about a problem or when I want to copy a bunch of equations that would be either too laborious to type/code in LaTeX or would look too messy.

It's perfect for everyday simple editing tasks.

Have you tried using the snipping tool that comes with windows (or the equivalent feature on Macs)? I find it a lot faster than print screen --> paint --> crop --> copy and paste. Instead it's select area of screen you want to copy --> paste

Just chiming in to say that Paint.NET is indeed awesome. I use it for all my pixel art (e.g. most of my GAF avatars).

MS Paint is way too simplistic for me (no transparency/layers and awful colour picker), while GIMP/Photoshop are overkill for what I normally use Paint.NET for.
