So being an abrasive intentionally offensive asshole is simply exercising your 'freedom to criticize'
I'm sure you'll just get shitted on for this post but I'll give it a go.

Exercising your freedom to criticize doesn't make you an abrasive intentionally offensive asshole, but unfortunately some people only know how to exercise their freedom to criticize by being an abrasive intentionally offensive asshole - and some exercise their freedom that way intentionally because they believe it's the best way to send a message to those opposing their freedoms.

The amount of offense any given critique arises is completely in the hands of the one receiving the criticism though.

The amount of offense varies yes, but the critique can chose to not use an insulting language.
Like for example not comparing karasu to a baby, which looks like it serves no purpose but ridiculing and antagonizing him. I do recognize the reasons for using this likening though so it might just be the easiest way of getting their point through.

This is good. I think it could be worded a bit differently for this case...

A lot of people may want to take offense at something that wasn't intentionally aimed at them at all and I think this may set people back way too often because it may serve to legitimize the beliefs of extremists or radicals(of any kind).

But who decides what language is and which is not insulting?
One could argue that muslims worldwide misinterpreted the cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb as a tulban. One could interpret it as being an insult and a depiction of the prophet as a terrorist. I for one interpreted it as a graphic representation of terrorists who are using the face of religion to justify their cowardly acts. As most people in my direct environment did. Including several muslims.

So who is to blame that it was misinterpreted? The drawer, who should've made more clear what his intentions were, even though he had no idea his cartoon for a small Danish paper would go worldwide thanks to a crazed imam? Or the people who automatically assumed the worst and jumped to conclusions?

There is very little I can say to this post that will leave me with a NeoGAF account.

I shall simply choose "I find your observation repugnant and request that you give a little more thought to further contributions".

I am from Pakistan. And yes, they DID ban Youtube as well but that's uplifted now. Same for Facebook, the ban is uplifted now (as of June 1st).

And yea, Pakistan has other stuff to worry about than Facebook. True story, but today a group of terrorists entered the hospital that I work in dressed as policemen in order to break out their fellow terrorist who was injured in an attack that they perpetrated not too long ago. This ended up in a gun fight right in the middle of the ICU with 4 policeman and a woman dead. The terrorists got away and were unable to extract their man. Now the hospital is on red alert, it's fucking crazy here.

I live in Lahore and the hospital is Jinnah Hospital.

That is crazy man be safe. Have you ever interacted with an injured terrorist before?

Fine.
How well do you know the Pakistani people? What makes you think they don't support the decision to ban a website that allows content that insults their religion. You may argue that insulting something fictional like religion is nothing to get angry about but that's the western cultural point of view. From my knowledge most Pakistani are deeply religious and thus they have an entirely different outlook on the issue.

The day may come when the Pakistani people stands up and decides that facebook is more important to them than their beliefs but it doesn't look like it's here yet. Until then I say let them have their way.
The whole world doesn't have to be westernized.

Also I'm not sure why you're angry. Because I pointed out the overall reaction in the thread?

Are these the terrorists involved in the attacks on Friday? That was in the same place iirc.

Seriously Pakistan, you have a huge army, stop paying so much ridiculous attention to India for one fucking second and you might be able to sort out your own country first.
