PAL Charts - Week 23, 2017

These budget price releases are really perfect. Crash is going to do so well over the summer at its lower price point in the same way Ratchet did really well. Surprised Horizon didn't pop it to the top spot thanks to those great offers but glad the current GoTY is selling so good still.

Any French speakers about?

Saw this article on Twitter(thanks Dystify) and I was wondering it we could get a proper translation.

- 250.000 Switch sold in France since launch (better than expected).
- Too soon to claim victory, critical point will be the first million.
- Target is 1 million sold in 1 year (would be in the same range as Wii).
- 4,9 million 3DS sold in France, target is 650.000 for this year.
- No cannibalization between Switch and 3DS, Sun & Moon is the best selling Pokemon ever in France.
- Super Mario Run did not meet expectations (a lot of free downloads, but Nintendo expected 10% paid users).

Who would have believed that Nintendo on mobile would underperform and the Wii U successor would be a hit(at least for now!:O

Sony are at No1 in the All Formats Chart again this week with a PS4 exclusive, but it’s not ‘Wipeout: Omega Collection’, which drops from top spot to No5.

The continued price promotion of ‘Horizon: Zero Dawn’ boosts it from No4 to No1. It is the second time it has topped the chart since it debuted at No1 back in week 9. It means Nintendo will have to wait for their second ever Switch title to make No1 in the All Formats chart as new title ‘Arms’ is forced to settle for No2. However, it is a good performance from the new IP, which out of the 11 Switch titles so far, manages the 4th biggest Switch launch week, sitting behind Zelda, Mario and 1-2 Switch. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ remains strong, up 2 places to No3, ahead of ‘Dirt 4’ which drops one place to No4. The only other new title to make it in to the Top 40 this week is ‘MotoGP 17’ from Milestone/Koch, debuting at No18.

Surprised ARMS wasn't #1.

It debuted less than 1-2 Switch so that might not be good. Did we ever get estimates for Switch launch software?

BOTW made up 75% of Switch software sales week 1 where 80k Switch Hardware units were sold, so even being overly positive 1 2 Switch was likely sub 20K.

I'm not, Horizon got heavy discounts last week and Arms is a new multiplayer IP from Nintendo on a system that is still supply constrained. Arms should have decent legs, but it was never going to do huge amounts in the UK imo.
Arms did worse than 1-2 Switch. Let that sink in.

Thanks!

Who would have believed that Nintendo on mobile would underperform and the Wii U successor would be a hit(at least for now!:O

Why most thinks Switch is a Wii u Successor ? In reality, actually it is just another handheld with an option of TV out acting like a hybrid but not a home console at all. I bet people buy this because of portability and next gen handheld, not because it is a home console and successor to Wii U.

Let what sink in? I already said I didnt expect it to sell well and am not surprised Horizon beat it to number 1.
I didnt realise you thought it was gonna do badly. Thought you were one of the many "how can arms not be the next big thing" people. Sorry.

It got to number 2, and it's a new ip, I'd hardly say it's "not good".
#2, behind another new IP which has been out since March.

But honestly, I think ARMS has niche appeal and if it had launched on any other console I think we'd be quite pleased that a game like that could reach #2. For Switch, obviously it's a console/handheld with huge hype around it at the moment and starved of AAA games at this point, so we probably expected it to do a little better. Especially after the MK8D performance.

Horizon Zero Dawn back at the top this week. :)

First time it really went on sale after 3 months and offering a heck of a lot of game at ÂŁ25ish. Those complaining it had under-performed at 3.5m WW after that amount of time were trying too hard and letting bias cloud their eyes, it was trucking along and raking in the returns at that point.

Having the DLC announced twisted my arm to go back and finish off the platinum, something I've not bothered with for quite some time. With a complete/GOTY edition at some point and some further Sony-aided soft bundling, it'll do 5m+ in its life (but not the daft 8m superdata suggested - save that for a sequel).

I thought it could've been better debut-wise, but frankly we'll have to see how it performs in the long run, since it's a new IP on an extremely young platform.
