Rebellion’s third installment in the Sniper Elite franchise debuts at No1, straddling Microsoft and Sony current/previous gen platforms, of which PS4/Xbox One make up 65% of console sales units.

It is the second in the series to be published by 505 Games and the second to debut at No1 (Sniper Elite 2 took 2 weeks at No1 back in weeks 18/19 2012 whereas original Sniper Elite only got to No15 back in week 2 for that title, week 40, 2005). Ubisoft remain at No2 with ‘Watch Dogs’ (-22%) and last week’s No1 ‘EA Sports UFC’ drops to No3 (-58%).

Codemasters take the 2nd highest new entry at No7 with previous gen and PC ‘GRID Autosport’. EA’s ‘2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil’ drops out of the Top 10 for the first time at No11 (-13%) and right behind we have the 3rd new entry of the week, Activision Blizzard’s ‘Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark’, in at No12. Completing the new releases within the Top 40 is Bandai Namco’s ‘One Piece: Unlimited World Red’ at No28

Good for Rebellion. It's probably not my kind of game, but footage I've watched on Youtube has made it seem pretty polished. (EDIT - talking about Sniper Elite).

Regarding Tomodachi - I've been surprised at how hard Nintendo have been marketing it. I've just got back from holiday in Spain a couple of weeks ago, and TV adverts were everywhere there, and similarly when my daughter watches kids TV since we're back the adverts for it are always on. I guess Nintendo are pushing it as a Sims-style life simulator. I can't help but wonder if the gender controversy actually helped it, as I doesn't seem like the type of game I would have heard about otherwise.

Ufc holding strong.

What were codemasters thinking with grid?

Considering that Sniper Elite was the only PS4/XB1 release this week, I would have been shocked at it falling any further. I'm a little shocked Watch Dogs managed to jump it even.

No idea on Codemasters though. GRID looks nice on PC, albeit not DRIVECLUB good. I would have just taken the hit and been the first proper racing game on PS4 rather than stay last gen.

Borderlands is not going to look good when it comes out...

Are the Sniper Elite games any good? ... i had put them more in the "gimmicky game you get during a Steam summer sale" category.

Do they have anything going for them beyond bursting Nazi balls in x-ray vision?

Mario Kart still doing great! I wouldn't be surprised if it moves up next week in the charts due to legs. We shall see.

Tomodachi Life must be going viral...no surprise there lol

Watch Dogs SKUs which are not PS4 are going down quickly now. And that comprehends Xbox One SKU too.

From the other thread

WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 17,981 / 541,824 (-22%)
UFC second week < 17,981 (-58%)
UFC first week < 31,002

UFC PS4 first week (61%) - < 18,911
UFC One first week (39%) - < 12,091

...I have this feeling that UFC had a worse debut than the older games under THQ, I have to check.

Is Titanfall climbing the charts?

Here in the UK the Titanfall Xbone bundle is basically the main Xbone bundle. In fact, all the others seem to have vanished. I still haven't seen a kinectless one yet (Maybe they are trying to clear out the old stock first).

Take note devs, last gen is on its last legs. We dont want cross gen games anymore.

I think that much was obvious when last-gen software sales were in severe decline even before current-gen began. This year is the year where publishers could establish a brand new current-gen only franchise without too much competition, but it's only the first parties that have been doing anything that isn't cross-gen. And Arkham is delayed to 2015.

But it seems to be climbing the charts, so is it possible more people are just buying that bundle?

GRID was going to bomb from day 1. The steam numbers are shockingly low too, I think many people were turned off because of GRID2. It's a shame, because from what I've played so far... Autosport is a massively superior experience.

Woah anyone read the story that rebellion are deleting valid steam purchases for sniper elite 3 ? check the comments on the uk chart article on Eurogamer.

Having a game not coming on current gen now is stupid? Yes.
Having a game not coming on old gen, if it's a very big title, now is stupid? Yes.

It seems all the "core" gamers (or a big part of the audience) has already shifted to PS4 and Xbox One, thus leading to big debuts for games even on very young hardwares, but, in the long run, the installed base can limit their sales. And, so far, we've seen examples of games starting better on current and then doing better on old gen, including Wolfenstein this week (360 SKU higher than both PS4 and One), as well as more casual games, and Lego titles. So, right now, they are both needed for, I repeat, very big titles at least.

EDIT: Outside of UK, even Watch Dogs is now selling better on PS3 than on PS4 (France and Italy).

That difference between the PS4 and XB1 versions of Watch Dogs really is shocking. I guess that brand association really paid off for Sony.

I wonder if we will see this with Destiny.

Looks like they were stolen keys. It's why we can't link to sites like that unless they're properly legit... Unfortunately, it looks like even a seemingly legit one that we link to all the time (quote to see which one as I'd rather not link it now) was caught up in it as well.

Ah fair enough!

wow Transformers is huge bomba.
I wish this happened to the movies too.

But really, I think people know now that movie tie-in games are almost never good. Activision keeps releasing shitty games with the name of a popular movie released at the same time and people are becoming aware of this after buying so much crap. This year we've had Amazing Spiderman 2 and this.

Isn't Wolfenstien doing better on Xbox based on that list?

The absolute difference between positions 27 and 28 is going to be less than 200 units.

On the other hand, Watch_Dogs and UFC have both done significantly better on PS4.

Even so it's 9 PS4 titles to 8 XB1 titles, so they are relatively evenly matched.

Oh, here's how the last two UFC games under THQ fared

EDIT: UFC's first week estimate now is correct :P

Interesting, I didn't realize it can be a difference of only 200 units between one place.

IMO, Codemasters should have delayed the title a few months to port it to current gen. I feel like anything releasing soley last gen (GRID Auto, Borderlands Pre-Sequel) is just being sent out to die.

Titanfall cops so much comments about being a failed seller (XBO) yet still in Top 5 after 15 weeks. Not too bad for a new IP that is multiplayer only and selling to a small install base.

Mario Kart 8 is falling quicker than I thought. Makes me very sad.

It's still bundled, so much for a "limited" offer.
