EA’s ‘FIFA 17’ grabs a third consecutive week at No1 (-55%).

Three weeks ago the software market was kicked into life with the launch of EA’s ‘FIFA 17’. 2 weeks ago saw ‘FIFA 17’ carry on at No1 and 2K/Take 2 join the Q4 bonanza with ‘Mafia III’ debuting strongly at No2. This week sees more than 80 SKU’s across software, hardware and accessories released, with the software market climbing over last week and the year to date software revenue 2016 vs 2015 hauled back to just 10% down year on year.

There are no less than 13 New Entries in the Overall Top 40. Microsoft land at No2 with Xbox One format exclusive ‘Gears of War 4’. 2K/Take 2 only drop 1 place to No3 with ‘Mafia III’ (-54%) and 2K/Take 2 also debut at No4 with ‘WWE 2K17’. Square Enix take the next of the new entries at No5 with ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 year edition’. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Skylanders Imaginators’ debuts strongly at No8 and Square Enix have another new entry this week at No13 with ‘Dragon Quest Builders’ on PS4. For those that have lost count that’s 5 of the 13 new entries so far. Incredibly, all of the remaining 8 new entries are Playstation VR titles (9 were launched as boxed propositions), which goes some way to showing just what kind of impact Playstation VR has had in its first week on sale (launched Thursday 13th October). The top performing VR title is Sony’s VR showcase ‘Playstation VR Worlds’ debuting at No7. After that comes ‘Until Dawn: Rush of Blood’ (No9), ‘Rigs: Mechanised Combat’ (No12), ‘Eve: Valkyrie’ (No20), ‘DriveClub VR’ (No23), ‘Battlezone’ (No28), Maximum Games’ ‘Loading Human’ (No36) and finally ‘Super Stardust Ultra VR’ (No37). The last VR title, just outside of the Top 40 is ‘Hustle Kings VR’.

I'd be curious to know how well Tomb Raider would sell had Square not sent it out to die two years in a row. At least it actually got tv adverts last time around.

Also, surprised I haven't seen a single advert for PSVR.

Tomb Raider PS4 compare to Xbox one? Do we have the number?

Probably better on PS4 because larger install base and not sent to die with a launch of Fallout 4.

Around the same

1. FIFA 17 - 105,000 (-55%)
2. Gears of War 4
3. Mafia III - 55,000 (-54%)
4. ‘WWE 2K17’
5. Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 year edition

Gears of War 4 may have missed 100,000 mark and Mafia III had a great second week drop.

Last week 63% of Mafia III sales were for PlayStation 4 SKU, this means that if this week the split was similar Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 year edition would be over 34,000 units. It may have outsold the original Rise of the Tomb Raider launch for Xbox One (36,000).

Nice to see Forza hanging on in there, should do well over the coming months ahead.

The Gears discussion is going to be fun to read as well :)

01 (01) FIFA 17 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) [-55%] 232,700 last week so 104.715 this week.

03 (02) MAFIA III (TAKE 2) [-54%] 119,000 last week so 54.740 this week.

so gears is somewhere between 105k - 55k..

;o)

PSVR launch games charting is nice.

Now I'm interested in Gears 4 numbers..
In the previous PAL thread it sounded grim but I don't want to jump the gun.

Bruno to the rescue?

Good week for Playstation software.

VR did well, above my expectations, maybe except RIGS, which I thought would be on top not counting the bundled PSVR Worlds.

Glad to see DQB debut high, well deserved.

I'll laugh my ass off if a year late port outsold the original Xbone release.

Microsoft might have to start looking for a new flagship franchise. Gone seem to be the days of Halo,Gears,Fable(RIP) and to some extend Forza pulling the Xbox wagon.

PSVR World's wasn't bundled here. That's just raw sales.

Oh crap, so many new games in one week. :) I wouldn't have guessed that VR Worlds would be the most popular PSVR title (at least in retail form).

Yeah, Gears 4 does not look so hot on Amazon US either, honestly.

Pleasantly surprised by the presence of VR games, although it looks like Batman VR was not retail in the UK ? The PS Store ranking will also be very interesting to look a the debut of PS VR.

And Dragon Quest Builders at #13, I wonder if it did better numbers than Dragon Quest Heroes.

No % drop for Forza?

Also wonder how much play anywhere affected retail Gears sales. Possibly under 100k is disappointing.

Surprised at ROTR's estimate sales. I expected it to be less than Xbox by around 25-40%, not in the same ballpark.

Even at 30% digital uptake, if it's below 100k, it's not a very paintly picture.

Yeah, I mean, jokes aside, I'd love to know how much play anywhere is affecting things because I personally know I'll never touch an XB1 game at retail again, but even if it managed to get to 40% somehow, its not great.

PSVR worlds isn't bundled is it?.

My biggest takeaway this week is that there's a new Skylanders game out! I had no idea.

Any idea why Mafia III had such a small drop? It's the last title I expect to have legs.

Is 55% considered a small drop?

Microsoft might have to start looking for a new flagship franchise. Gone seem to be the days of Halo,Gears,Fable(RIP) and to some extend Forza pulling the Xbox wagon.

I don't think they're going to find it any time soon. Quantum Break was a flop, and while Crackdown 3 and Scalebound are probably going to do healthy numbers, I can't see them doing 4-6 million + in order to become one of MS's flagship franchises. I think Sea of Thieves will be a dark horse, but I can see that being a game-as-service release in which case its business model will be different to the typical Halo, Gears, etc.

Projected Gears numbers?

Read posts 6 and 8.

It's the same game? If you buy it on the W10 store then you can play it on your Xbox in the bedroom (if you have one).

I still think PS4 version of RotTR should have been cheaper.
I'm not getting it till it is, no rush to buy it since I beat it on Xbox and don't want it till pro drops next month anyway, you'd be nuts to buy at full price tomb raider games well square games that arnt ff drop price so quickly here.

Who'd develop it, tho? All first parties are chained to their respective franchise and not one single 3rd party collaboration had worked out so far.

Projected Gears numbers?

Holy shit.

That's all I'm gonna say regarding GoW4 numbers.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Said in the VR thread but that's a great debut for DQ Builders. It might actually outsell DQVII in the West.

It's true that being 15th in this kind of week (with several new releases) increase the chances of the game doing better numbers than usual for that position, but taking UK and trying to extrapolate so much for the whole West seems...extremely premature. We have to see how much it actually did in UK first of course, but I fear Builders has low chances of outselling DQVII / Heroes in the West. Looking at Amazon US, for example, even when you consider VR titles in the mix, it never reached the top 20, and it has already fallen off a cliff (almost 80th right now). I know you've been in a singular mood lately ("lately") about Japanese third parties going all out on PS4 and ignoring NX (a bit exaggerating...but you did the same by stating VR will have better support than NX, eh), but let's try to be more rational here.

Actually, I'm pretty interested to see how it places and what numbers it does in France, the best country for the franchise by far.

Right, but if I buy the retail disc, I don't get the PC version is what I mean, so I'll never buy the game at retail.

I don't think anyone at MS or The Coalition would care, the only people who would be are those who are invested in these kind of threads. It's still a sale :)

I know that. I said I would be interested to see the numbers of people buying it digitally to see if it increases the ratio. Me personally.

I was with yoy until that part. Honestly let's not talk about chances of anything NX related since we officially know nothing about it and thus there's nothing to dicuss.

Forza holding on! Need the sexy weight lifting guy gif, it is time. Especially now that Drive Club is back in the charts.

It's not crazy to expect some Gears numbers from MS by the end of the month ? They did release PR for Halo.

I get the horrible feeling that this is about as good as it's going to get for VR.

Probably, but that was always going to be the case this generation. You'll have the big crossover games like RE7, but overall it'll skew to digital experiences with limited retail presence.

I know that. I said I would be interested to see the numbers of people buying it digitally to see if it increases the ratio. Me personally.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see the split. There are 3 types of Xbox customers now: Xbox owners who buy the game at retail, Xbox owners (without a capable PC) who buy the game digitally and PC gamers who buy through the W10 store.

If the average digital / retail split is 30% or 35% can we assume Play Anywhere title's will be higher than that?

TR came out way too late. PS4 owners aren't that interested as expected.

Instead of one big release with lots of fanfare, it had two 'eh' releases where it got overshadowed by something else. That's one game whose sales have been properly scuppered as a result.

Makes you wonder how the inevitable third installment is going to fare now.
