PAL Charts - Week 44, 2013

Either Battlefield is really underperforming or AC is doing really well.
Most of us here are waiting for next gen versions, no?

I was under the impression that BF3 had reached the mainstream. With sales like this in beginning to doubt that.

Assassins Creed is just impossibly huge. I'll never fully understand it, but it is pretty much unbeatable beyond a GTA or COD.

Its also been heavily advertised (with all CGI!) on TV over and over while Battlefield 4 has cropped up far less. Might be because Ubi had double slots booked for AC and Watch_Dogs and now just had to double blubber AC4 in for both.

Batman is an interesting case to watch since it goes to that concept that Vita while underperforming at least provides third partys some sales on a portable while 3DS is just a Nintendo First Party show until the end of time.

Its also pretty weird whatever the fuck is going on with it on shop floors but not registering sales because its not "released" yet.

Also winky smiles are the absolute best I really like them they're so cool.

Vita has not one single million seller, while 3DS has atleast 3 million selling thirdparty- titles.

You are really, really invested in " bad"3DS numbers, arent you ;)
Nowhere near as invested as you are in me sweetie.

I do find it interesting to see the total lack of interest in 3rd party titles though, yeah. Ten out of ten are first party again this week. I can't think of any other machine where that is the case. Still, Batman might surprise me.

Vita has not one single million seller, while 3DS has atleast 3 million selling thirdparty- titles.
Here in the UK? Which three?

This Batman situation is very strange. It's been officially pushed back to Nov. 8 in Europe (along with the Wii U version), yet I too have seen it on shelves last week in France. How is this game going to be tracked?

Excuse me? 3DS is selling third-party software just fine.

Batman is a non factor in the sea of good games currently available for the 3DS, money is being spent elsewhere.

There isn't so much a lack of interest in third party titles as there are simply not very many notable third party titles, period. Nintendo usually dominates on all their handhelds anyway but they're particularly dominating now because no one else gives a shit about the 3DS. Still, didn't a relatively niche title like Project X Zone chart, though?

PS: Of course I'm talking about the UK market (which further stretches to the Western market at large).

WB have a horrible history with releasing on time for Nintendo platforms in the UK. Hell, look at Scribblenauts.

To be cynical, I doubt Batman will do jack shit for third party perception, much as I'd love it to. The concept sounded superb, but the execution seems somewhat lacking. Will 3DS owners ever get something even vaguely resembling a 2D Metroid?!

Steamworld is our best bet...

Dont get your hopes up.

Talking about worldwide, there is a market outside UK.

It bares reminding in a UK chart I'm going to be talking more about western third party than obviously yes, Monster Hunter is selling squillions in Japan.

The entire top 10 is first party. On any given week, 8 or 9 of the top 10 are first party. I've never seen a system skew so heavily towards first party titles.

That's a fair point.

Batman isn't very good. I was really hyped for it and rooting for the game to be a success, but after playing it I think I'd rather see people save their money and spend it on all the great exclusives from indie developers the eShop is getting instead.

Ten out of ten are first party again this week. I can't think of any other machine where that is the case.

To be fair, Sonic and Lego City aren't really first party. Yes, technically they're published by Nintendo (Sonic just in Europe), but the money are probably going to be splitted.

I expect Batman to perform badly on 3DS either way. I don't think that audience is there right now.

Two of those ten are only published by Nintendo. Sonic Lost World and Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins aren't first-party titles. Sonic doesn't even have the Nintendo logo on the cover, just Sega's. They're succeeding on the basis of the Sonic and Lego franchises.

In the case of Lego in particular, the game is still charting in November despite having been released in April.

At the moment, I don't really much stuff other than those ten titles that could chart. Batman isn't being tracked, stores broke the street date. What else should be on there? All of those are much bigger titles than anything else I can think of released at retail recently.

I think the audience for Batman games are already present on 3DS, but why would we play a Batman game on it?

I'll take it on PC, PS360 or Wii U, thank you very much

Western third party games will start selling on 3DS in EU/NA the moment they start developing real handheld games/franchises for it, not just make half-assed versions/spin-offs of already existing console franchises.

Well, at least to me.

Either Battlefield is really underperforming or AC is doing really well.

AC was out on Tuesday versus Friday for Battlefield.

With games that sell a ton that can add up.

Both titles are in the six figure range and the difference was mighty close. AC was about 3% more than BF. Based on the multiplayer, one would presume that BF will have the longer legs

AC4 has three extra days recorded as well. Since AC is a very front loaded franchise BF4 is certain to overtake it next week.

AC3 killed such interest in the series for me, that I didn't even realise AC4 had some special Tuesday release. Oops. Good news for Battlefield then.

France week 42 (this one was still missing):

1 - GTA V PS3 Take-Two
2 - FIFA 14 PS3 Electronic Arts
3 - Pokémon Y 3DS Nintendo
4 - Pokémon X 3DS Nintendo
5 - GTA V Xbox 360 Take-Two

France week 43:

1 - GTA V PS3 - Take-Two
2 - FIFA 14 PS3 - Electronic Arts
3 - Batman : Arkham Origins PS3 - Warner Bros Interactive
4 - Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag PS3 - Ubisoft
5 - GTA V Xbox 360 - Take-Two

Batman PS3 SKU 41% -> ~18K > Battlefied PC retail (13%).
Battlefield retail < 139K?

FIFA 14 - 53.088
FIFA 14 360 (59%) - 31.322
FIFA 14 PS3 (35%) - 18.581
FIFA 14 Wii (2%) - 1.062

Grand Theft Auto V - 47.589
Grand Theft Auto V 360 (56%) - 26.650
Grand Theft Auto V PS3 (43%) - 20.463

Batman: Arkham Origins - 44.000
Batman: Arkham Origins 360 (56%) - 24.640
Batman: Arkham Origins PS3 (41%) - 18.040
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Vita (3%) - 1.320

Considering how Batman PS3 charted higher than FIFA 14 PS3, this means it actually sold more than 18.040. But, given the little range we have thanks to what said by Chart-Track about Batman's debut (around half of the last one), we can say the PS3 SKU did around 19k. Then

Batman: Arkham Origins - around 46.341
Batman: Arkham Origins 360 (56%) - around 25.951
Batman: Arkham Origins PS3 (41%) - around 19.000
Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Vita (3%) - around 1.390

PC SKU of Battlefield sold less than FIFA 14 PS3 (18.581). Then:

Battlefield 4 - less than 142.931
Battlefield 4 360 (55%) - less than 78.612
Battlefield 4 PS3 (27%) - less than 38.591
Battlefield 4 PC (13%) - less than 18.581

Since Assassin's Creed IV debuted lower than Battlefield 4 on 360, then

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - less than 196.530
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag 360 (60%) - less than 117.918
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag PS3 (40%) - less than 78.612

Assassin's Creed III: around 333.000

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=43988197&postcount=20

I have AC Revelations estimated at around 216k.

ACIII = 216k + 117k = around 333k.

If we take that ACIV isn't any more than ~3% away from BF3 though, (via WxY above), then ACIV maximum is about 147K.

Did the Wii U SKU not release this week? Or did it just sell so poorly it couldn't even make the Wii U top 10? Deus Ex is on there though... :S

Wii U SKU releases later, on November 22nd.

Do we know how much Battlefield 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 sold at their debut? I'm going to search for them in the older threads.

BATTLEFIELD 3 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) - 358.000 (PC sales not included)

Xbox 360 - 214.000
PS3 - 144.000

ASSASSIN'S CREED 3 (UBISOFT) - 332.000

Xbox 360 - 196.000
PS3 - 136.000

PS3 - 136.000

...This means Battlefield 4 sold about as much as PS3 SKU of Battlefield 3. Woah. Next gen is probably playing a role here (I don't know how much though).

I hope people over here is ready.

Next week's chart will sign the debut of PS4 in charts. Its version of Ghosts comes out on the same day as the current gen versions. Let's get ready for a tie-ratio equal to INFINIITYYYYYYYY :D

Gen transition year is always hard for publishers. Old consoles have already lower active userbase than during their prime and then there is next gen hype that lowers that even more as people see current gen versions being so gimped. Of course next gen versions will make up some of those sales but not all because of limited amount of sold consoles.

So the Wii U version of AC4 and Batman haven't come out then?

Well, any overlapping console owners got the game that was out in guessing.

Probably a combination of releasing the same week + around the launch of other huge games + both have next gen versions around the corner.

Well, yeah. Next gen is surely a factor in these results. I think there's also a market-contraction component, but I'd say PS4 and One SKUs coming soon is bigger than that. As well as both games releasing in the same week.

About Pokémon again: we should also remember that Pokémon is divided in two SKUs, and that this time it seems they're actually selling close to each other, since Y needed just to lose 2% less than X compared to last week to become the best selling one, as well as seeing the ratings on UK eShop.

Pokémon X (920)
Pokémon Y (917)

Basically, they have the same amount of reviews.
So, summing them would actually result in sales around 2x the best selling's one, then being much higher in charts. It's a principle resembling the one that makes specific titles being high in the All Formats Charts, with all the SKUs combined, while the Individual Charts show many versions of the same game in much lower positions.
