Pandora's Tower (Wii) releasing in NA on 4/16, website launched

Great game, hope North America GAF supports and enjoys it. I just finished my second playthrough this week, still amazed at the level and boss design.

Already have it preordered! I'm going to be busy with this and Soul Hackers coming out on the same day.

This pre-ordered and might be the first of the trilogy of games I actually play :D Still have sealed copies of The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles. How long is the game on average?

Yeah I might have to start Soul Hackers first as well.
Times like this, my backlog can go to hell damnit! But I can safely alternate between 2 games and still get full enjoyment out of em.
Any more than that and my mind is a mess with different stories/characters/batte systems. Damnit... I better get on finishing Etrian Odyssey IV before both of these come out.

I'm a little sour that the last new game to ever grace my Wii is no longer going to be "The Last Story". But I'll be havin' this in there for sure.

What's this game like?

I've seen videos with the chain mechanic but I mean, is that all there is to the game?

I think the extended IGN trailer I posted at the top of this page gives a pretty good overview of what this game has to offer, but yeah, obviously there's a lot more to it than that.

Essentially, this is an atmospheric, exploration-heavy action RPG with a lot of platforming and puzzle elements and even a little dating sim-esque content thrown in for good measure.

The major focus of the game is on exploring the 13 towers, which are VERY cleverly-designed and full of secrets (think dark, moody versions of Zelda dungeons, but with an especially big emphasis on the use of the hookshot). There's an overarching plot, but it's mostly told via cutscenes between dungeons and through optional collectible stone tablets that your cursed girlfriend, Elena, sometimes has to translate for you. Telling backstory through tablets (particularly ones that have to be translated) reminds me most of Xanadu Next, but for those of you who haven't played that game, think something along the lines of Metroid Prime with its optional scanning of background objects to get additional world development. You can choose to find and read them all if you care about the story (and you probably will, as it's actually quite well-written), or you can just ignore them if all you care about is killing stuff.

Elena herself is also a major part of gameplay. The longer you take to complete each tower, the closer to a full-on monster she'll become. Each tower has shortcuts that you can unlock which take you back to the entrance, though, so you're given ample opportunity to head back out and check on her, and feed her the still-beating hearts of monsters that you've ripped from their lifeless husks to help curb her transformation. ;)

You can also chat with Elena, give her gifts, say nice things to reassure her that everything will be OK, etc. And her daily activities will change depending on how good of a relationship you're able to maintain with her, as well as what items you've given her over the course of the game -- and these things can affect which ending you get, too.

It all comes together to create a very intense experience. The combat is really fluid and satisfying, the chain is an absolute blast to use (and represents pretty much the best use of motion controls I've EVER encountered in a Wii game), bosses are big and imposing and strategic, the towers are fun to explore and full of clever puzzles and hidden rooms, and Elena is a surprisingly sympathetic character who comes across as a genuine person rather than simply an object in need of saving -- you actually WANT to help her, because you come to really and truly feel for her over the course of the adventure.

Got it preordered after Xenoblade, not getting screwed over again<_< still haven't gotten a copy of that game

I should probably grab a copy of this and Last Story while they're still affordable, huh?

Yea probly. I've learned my lesson....at this point I'm just accepting the fact that I will never get to play xenoblade, infinite space, or any of the console fire emblems.

you're probably actually better off importing Xenoblade from the UK than trying to get a US copy.

Wow. NoA is so bothered to have nothing to release on Wii U that they even took the time to release Pandora's Tower.

That's now one year after Europe and almost two after Japan.
I know it's better late then never and it's probably a panic mode for the Wii U drought but man, what kind of marketing/planning is that? Again?!

Anyway, enjoy the game, NA!

Nice spin, but it's being published by Xseed. :p

Already had this ordered but DAMNNN this sounds great! :D

don't miss this game, USA GAF.
Even if it's not a famous game, it's a well-crafted original IP which deserves attention.

wyrdwad already said all the important things there were to say about the game.

XSEED tweeted some pics of what the NA version of Pandora's Tower looks like unpacked. Visual confirmation of the box art being reversible and full color instruction manual. Overall, a nice touch.

Nice.
Preordered yesterday not taking another Xenoblade chance. (I have the EU version of Xenoblade but waited to long to grab a US copy)

still sucks about the white case, but that reversible box art and the instruction manual both look quite excellent

edit: ah, the reversible cover is the same one Nintendo used in Europe, it seems

Man, it's crazy awesome how much TLC NOE put into the releases of all three OpR games. NOA is worthless. :X

Amazon already charged me for mine and it is in Shipping Soon status.

I've been checking around and it looks like amazon is in the clear. Though everywhere else seems to have the game as the 16th just being a ship date so it can show up any time these upcoming weeks. I heard this happened with last story as well though.

Did The Last Story go on sale much besides the Amazon.com sale? Debating on whether I should wait to pick this up since it looks like most retailers will be carrying this.

It's priced 30 at gamestop.com and is still in stock. Though that came out closer to Xenoblade hype so it seemed like they overdid numbers on it. Most people are figuring this one will be harder to come by. No concrete evidence but it being the last big release for Wii is big factor for most. Grabbing it now since I don't want to deal with a Xenoblade limited run.

No charge yet for me, but that's par for the course with Xseed published games in Canada. I didn't receive my copy of Last Story, which I'd pre-ordered months in advance, till 2 weeks after its release date.

Damn, I need to check this game out. Need to support the last Operation Rainfall title. I can't believe this is coming out tomorrow! I don't think anyone saw this coming. I'm glad this thread got bumped for the reminder.

It's definitely been getting lost in the shuffle.
Sadly enough not even WiiU people seem to be talking about it.
