Panel de Pon - the greatness of puzzle

God, I love Tetris Attack. I've been waiting forever for Nintendo Puzzle Collection to come state-side, I might just import it.

For what it's worth the GBA PDP / Dr Mario game is confirmed for US release. When I was entering some codes on Nintendo.com it told me that entering its code would unlock some special content on the Nintendo website.

No sign of NPC though...

johntv: heh, lack of sleep plus many rounds of Mario party can do many things to ya. :p And in the end, something like the game's title isn't really worth bitching over.

And I would assume everyone has already wrote off NPC for a domestic release, while the lack of any of the previous game's art gaurantees Dr.M/PL outside Japan.

ok, started playing this again...does anyone have a link to a good strategy guide or site?

Yeah, the US release date for the GBA comp. is Dec. 5.

Addictive puzzle action is coming to the palm of your hand with Dr. Mario & Puzzle League – two fantastic puzzle games together for the first time! The classic Dr. Mario is as frenzied as a fever and features multiple gameplay modes, including Classic, Vs. CPU, 2P Vs. and Flash. Puzzle League, the rebirth of the N64 best-seller, tests your ability to match blocks before they reach the top of the screen and includes tons of fun modes such as Marathon, Garbage, Line, and Flash. Grab a friend and get ready for fun!

About the games

* Dr. Mario requires equal parts strategy and speed to achieve victory. Delete viruses by throwing vitamin capsules into a bottle. Since many viruses are trapped at the bottom of the bottle, you must plan ahead in order to eliminate them.
* In Puzzle League, you'll form a chain of three or more same-colored blocks. When you match up shapes, the blocks on top will fall onto other matching blocks, but if you can't make a match, the blocks rise to the top of the screen. This game also has unusual depth in terms of options and settings which lets players create a custom game experience.

This game has been announced. Please check back for more information on this game as the release date approaches.

I dunno about you but I personally like the original 'Panel de Pon' better or if it has to have english in the title 'Puzzle de Pon'

Only problem with this is that a Neo-Geo Puzzle Bobble spinoff called Puzzle de Pon already exists.

I'm a bit disappointed in the "Puzzle League" thing, but I've pretty much accepted at this point that Nintendo will never really do Panel de Pon or Tetris Attack "right" again, and that the ultimate versions will always be the SNES originals. I've gotten all hyped up over remakes and re-releases at least 3 times now -- Pokemon Puzzle League, NPC and now this -- and have been disappointed every time. So back to the old SNES I go.

What's wrong with the NPC version? It's the only one I've played so I'm just curious.

Has there been a release date announced? Any more Tetris Attack is a great thing, though I don't think it will be the same without the perfection that is the SNES controller.

And I agree with all the sentiments about this being the greatest 2 player puzzle game of all time.

The timing is off in Nintendo Puzzle Collection and all of the music is remixed (no originals available).

Yes. Also the sprites have all been re-done in a really gross pre-rendered style that actually manages to look worse than the 8-years-older version. The 4p mode is interesting in a sort of party-mayhem way (and believe me, I'm all about the 4p/one-screen party games), and the "column" mode lifted from Pokemon Puzzle League is kinda cool too, but I don't think either really improve enough upon the game to warrant the other screw-ups. And I know I can't really fault the game itself for this, but it's nearly impossible to play with the stock Gamecube D-Pad (cue the Hori images).

It's probably the best of the recent versions, but I ended up going back to the originals after only a couple days with it.

That's what you get for letting NST remake something. *shudder*

Anyone buy this? I imported, and all the ui is in hard core japanese... there seems to be no "game"... no structured play vs. against a bunch of progressively harder AI, just pick a difficulty level on a slider, and play that one vs. match??? same with all of the modes. Feels like a game still in development. Am I missing something?

Thanks for any help, playing vs. the maxed out CPU with the biggest handicap is fun:)

btw, the music SUCKS!!! I want my original panel, or original TA music back!!!

I've been going through the menu's for quite some time, trying every single option and it appears that there's no versus mode in Panel de Pon on GBA. I can multiboot the game over to someone else but it's just a single player experience :(

I think this thread has convinced me to rush out and buy Dr. Mario/Puzzle League.

I'm a huge Tetris buff, and even had a long stinit of Dr. Mario on GB - It was not as good as tetris, but I did blow away a LOT of time on it anyway...

Is Puzzle League/Tetris Attack/Panel de Whatsits REALLY REALLY that good? Is there a chance it will actually dethrone my Tetris love?

I alos really liked Kirby's Ava;anche (puyo puyo) - but my friends never played me because I got way too good at using a particular technique. Now, though, I have no friends...so will Tetris Attack be my new friend? How is puzzle League on teh Dr. Mario pack?
