Partial reviews for EGM March 2007 (VF5, Crackdown...)

I refuse to believe that NBA Street is any good.

/grumpy old man

I want it to be good but after Street 3 this "homecourt" demo better blow me away...I dont give a shit wat egm gave it.

i think i'm going to buy VF5.

i'd be a lot more excited about it if i knew i'd be able to have some rivalries, online or off.

but i know my buddies with PS3s probably won't buy this. still, i'm losing patience with the drought.

great egm cover

Crackdown: 9, 8.5, 7.5

That's about the spread I was expecting for Crackdown. I wonder which score was the lead (and thus 1up) score.

Scores were posted in the exact order they appeared in the magazine.

is this the article Luke has been hinting about all this time?

I remember like 6 weeks ago, he mentioned they were doing a piece on the "epilepsy" reported with the wireless controllers. And since then, he's dropped other little tidbits about discussions with Sony reps.

The partial reviews are only that - partial. Nobody knows why they got the scores. 1up just seems to have got "Y'know what GAF? **** it. You're going to nick them anyway" and put a few up on the site:

The actual one comes out Feb 13th.

You got the **** Gaf part of it right.

The scores come from the issue of EGM I have at my desk, that I took from Shoe's office.

I've been holding on to most my X-Mas gift cards to use them for VF5 and NBA Street, can't wait.

What version of NBA Street is the one to get (PS3 or XB360)? On multi-platform games I usually default to PS versions though.

Isn't VF5 a timed exclusive? Is the 360 version out at the same time? (I haven't been paying that much attention to it)

naw, i'm getting the PS3 version =]

I am hoping NBA Home court is more like Street Vol2 then Vol3. Vol3 sucked pretty badly compared to Vol2 imo.

And VF5 will have to wait until the 360 rev comes out. :p

Crackdown is my new Dead Rising...

I have no clue why so many of you like it...

Need to give the demo another go I guess...

So can we take this to mean that there is NOT a review of Sonic and the Secret Rings in the latest issue?

I loved the first NBA Street to DEATH but haven't played any of the sequels because they looked like they put style over gameplay so I'm completely stoked to hear about Homecourt.

VF5 is a given, even though I haven't played a VF in a decade. Tekken on PSP got me back into fighting games thank goodness or I would be completely ignoring this one

Based on what was said on 1up Yours and the 1up Show, that 9 for Crackdown has got to be from John. I'm pretty pleased with the scores; the spread in the ratings seems totally reasonable to me based on the demo.

I must resist picking up VF5, even with those outstanding review scores. I've always been impressed with the depth of the series, but I've proven to myself time and time again that it is just not for me.

As much as i expect VF5 to be an amazing product, EGM is not really where i'd go for a review. The staff is pretty well stocked with VF fanboys. (not that that is a bad thing :) )

Honestly, I don't want advice on 3D fighters from anybody who doesn't know VF is the gold standard. I've heard mixed things about VF5, but if theyjust took Evo and added stuff then it's still head & shoulders the best fighter on the market.

PSP Dark Resurrection was awesome, but it's really trying to be VF4 in alot of ways. Take some time going through all the tutorials in VF - they've added a TON of depth over the last couple - and learn all the ins & outs. If you like DR, you should love VF now.

I want the 360 version of VF5 already and really nice score for NBA Street I was so hyped for this game and this just solidifies my purchase of the game.

good thing you'll be able to walk into a store and buy a PS3 and VF5 with ease.

it's going to be a mighty fine day.
I wish I had some money at the moment.

Music to my ears. I anticipate VF5 to be hardcore and super technical whereas I understand Tekken is generally seen as being more accessible and leisurely so it will be nice to have two completely different games and styles to alternate between

Good. At least you know what you're getting yourself into. =]

So you're buying a PS3?

why do you think the sad frowny face? I long for VF5 because it is so far away for me. Unless I buy the 360 version... we'll see what happens there

Damn this NBA street ball game will be my first basketball game since NBA Jam LOL looks cool 60 fps and cool combos LOL.

I fully back up the +VF5, +Crackdown, +NBA Street (360 version, of course) sentiment. VF5 is VF5. Crackdown is worth it just to jump around the city looking for agility points. The first two NBA Streets were unbelievably fun as both single-player and multiplayer experiences, plus the game looks AMAZING. What a great, great week for gaming!

**** Diddy Kong and his old ass game.

If VF5 isn't online and I have zero gamer friends to play against near where I live, is the SP of VF5 worth it? This is the question that only Gamefly can answer for me.

Yes, I heard the game has so much replay value, that you will be playing it for months to come discovering new content. If VF4 is any indication, this will have an excellent single player mode.

So you bought a 360? :D

(next question: "So you bought a Wii?" shortly followed by....)

Anyways, I would consider buying VF, but I don't have a PS3. VF is not the game that's going to make me jump the fence, considering I came away from playing it (in JPN) with a unsatisfied face and the fact that it's coming out on 360 in a couple months, so there will be another oppurtunity (I already own a 360).

Crackdown, yes, I will buy that. Just for the jumping. Everything else about the game (from the 30 minutes that I played the demo) seemed...meh. But the jumping -- oh the jumping was exquisite!

I doubt many will argue against that.
