Ryan is expected to call for a renewed effort to make the House function as a great deliberative body again. And he asked members to put the concerns of working families front and center.

"We have nothing to fear from honest differences honestly stated," Ryan was expected to say in prepared remarks. "If you have ideas, let's hear them. A greater clarity between us can lead to a greater charity among us."

kill me with a heart attack if old

Aw boring. I was really hoping the Freedom Caucus would pull some shit.

And people were excited that Boenher was gone. Now we have this limey fuck stain.

It could be much worse. At least there's the silver lining of Ryan not being completely insane and wanting to shut down the government.

fiscally he's completely insane though, and his rhetoric about restoring unity makes it sound like he's going to try and position the democrats in congress as the obstructionists who prevent him from getting anything done when he tries to pass budgets that are outright evil

Wisconsin represent.

Crap. Between him and Scott Walker, our state is looking like a joke on the national stage.

I was more proud of Ed Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer.

Agreed, I'm not trying to give him too much credit here. He's just on the saner side of insane when it comes to the Republican party these days. If the Freedom Caucus had their way we'd all be crying right now.

yeah, most republicans only want to shut down the government when thing don't go their way. the freedom caucus wants to shut down the government forever just because.

At 45, he's the youngest Speaker of the House since 1869 - over 145 years ago.

He should go into work every day actively trying to piss off every single member of Congress. He might as well try and get SOME enjoyment from his job.

Well, I don't think he'll be in favor of blowing up the debt ceiling, so this is probably as good of a result as possible given the circumstances.

'Let's put working families first, any ideas?'

'How about cuts to assistance programs and upper class tax cuts?'

'GENIUS!'

Didn't you know? The upper class ARE the working families. Everyone else just isn't working hard enough. Otherwise they would be in the upper class.

I can respect that he basically kiboshed his own long-term ambitions to try and act as a focal point of unity for his troubled party. While I despise what that unity represents, I appreciate how hard of a decision it must have been.

it depends, if he actually got everything he asked for then it's not affecting his ambitions at all because he has basically guaranteed that the party will be voting the way he wants
