PAX Prime 2012 Registration - ALL SOLD OUT

I am an idiot half of the time when it comes to the gaming industry but I wanted to talk to the developers at every chance I get while I am there. That just sounds like such an amazing experience to talk to the people that create the games I love to play.

I will remember those places. I am not sure if the crepe place that you mentioned is the same one I heard of or not. I was definitely going to visit Pike's Place Market on one of the other days that I am there.

I have heard the Mike and Jerry panels are really good so I was going to make sure to see one.
It's one of the best parts of the show by far, especially because they're excited to meet fans as well.

The crepe place I listed is a ways away, which is why I never did go to it but it looked good.

Try to go to the Make-A-Strip panel. It's the most worthwhile and humorous.

edit: Regarding meals, Seattle has some great food in general, it's great to get out and enjoy what the city has to offer.

Taking a bus away from the venue for lunch/dinner is worth it. Every time. International District/Capitol Hill/Broadway so good for restaurants it's unreal.

Some more advice for first-timers: don't forget your handheld gaming systems! Interacting with other PAX goers via StreetPass or Near (or DQIX, TWEWY, Dissidia etc back in the day) is one of the coolest passive features of PAX and the Handheld Lounge is ALWAYS a great place to just kick back and play some games with friends or strangers when you need a break. If you forget to re-charge your system every night, or leave your multiplayer games at home, the Handheld Lounge headquarters will charge your system for you while you go out and enjoy the con and they'll rent you 3DS/DS carts/UMDs, etc. in exchange for an ID.

Other bits and bobs: a lot of booths run out of swag by Sunday, so if some company is giving away a really cool shirt or something in exchange for demoing their game or watching their trailer, make it a priority on Friday or Saturday. At booths like these you WILL have to wait up to an hour or more sometimes for your turn, so make sure you account for that. If you get up *really* early to get in line for the con each morning (2 or more hours before the doors open), you may be able to make a beeline for the booth you want right when the con starts for the day and not have to wait in line, but plan ahead and know exactly where you're going if you want to try that route.

One of my favorite PAX experiences was at East 2011 - I went by the Ubisoft booth and saw they were demoing the PSN/XBLA HD version of Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes. I LOVED the DS game so I picked up a controller and started playing. One of the devs came by to talk to me about it and I thanked him for making such an awesome DS game. In return, he gave me some Clash of Heroes toys that were only ever released in Spain or something - he had a stash in his bag that he said he brought to hand out to people who'd played the original DS version.

Sadly I think Streetpass has killed TWEWY. I tried it two PAX Easts ago, when Pokemon B/W had just come out. The game immediately picks up other games' signals as "aliens," so it's very difficult to trade TWEWY data with anyone, even if you're sitting right next to each other.

Yeah, I think pretty much all of the DS titles with tag/mingle features are dead at PAX now (except for maybe Pokemon, thanks to the PPL), but in their place we have Kid Icarus weapon gems, SFIV figures, SM3DL/MK7 swappable data, Theatrhythm Dark Notes and more to make up for it. I do keep DS's running TWEWY, DQIX and KH:recoded in my bag, just in case though. Think I ran into maybe one legit TWEWY player at PAX East this year, ha.

I wish the PSP wasn't so dead though - getting Dissidia data from others at PAX has always been my favorite, but now I'm lucky if I can get one hit in three days (not that it was ever all that lively, compared to DS games...)

EDIT: Wait a second, is creid your PSN name as well? I could swear I've swapped Dissidia ghost data with someone going by the handle "creid" at a few PAXs before.

In spite of the email saying I transferred over fine and the charge on my credit card for the tickets I still find myself getting worried after all the problems they had with buying them =\

Heh, definitely me. I only ever tagged 6 people, almost all of them at the first PAX East.

Ha, man what a coincidence. I went and checked my 012 file and I have a friend card from creid8. Also checked my original Dissidia file and I've got you there too! So random. My name is either Olivia or oliemoon, with either Firion or Lightning as my main (can't quite remember which I've used at any given time at PAX). If you're headed to Prime this year we should meet up and play a match.

Oh wow, I think you were the only person I tagged more than once. Yeah, let's do it. I never was very good though...

That's awesome about the Devs giving you the toys!

Got a shipping notification for my passes

Estimated delivery, August 7th.

...a week shipping? That seems excessive. Especially when I paid 15 bucks. Oh well

Out of country? $15 seems very excessive since the pass just comes in a regular sized envelope.

At PAX East 2012 the lines for Max Payne and Borderlands 2 and Firefall got up to 2 hours, I'd think Prime would be similar?

Cool, I would definitely love to meet developers and talk to them.

Sorry I meant to say it isn't the same place!

This surprises me, it's been at the show for a few years now and it's F2P! I've had the beta for a while and haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

Hey, I remember you! Glad I got the chance to meet you (and hook you up with some tough-to-find swag).

How is attendance at PAX on Sunday versus the other two days? When we did our panel at East, it was on Friday, so I'm wondering if we'd potentially get less attendance at Prime due to the difference in days.

Yeah tons of places to eat in Seattle. I had a great dinner over at Skillet Diner a few weeks ago. Waffles, eggs and pork belly are an amazing combination.

eating is the only reason I wanna go to PAX.

I dont give a fukk about games, only food.

unless it's co-op Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers.

I imagine this year will be fairly crowded given how fast passes went. In years past it's been a little more low-key but that could just be due to personal fatigue and not doing as much.

$15 is about as cheap as you can ship something via Fexex etc. Also, that's 4 business days(remember there's a long weekend this weekend) what are you complaining about?

Noticably less, although still busy enough.

You can't get more crowded than maximum capacity which is what it has been the past two or three years. It'll be as crowded as last year.

Well, counterfeit passes were a big problem last year. The badges this year seem to have some kind of holograph on them, so hopefully the problem is avoided and the convention center isn't getting packed with more people than it should be.

Hopefully not because the fake badges brought them over capacity last year.

I hope that doesn't mess up how long it takes to get in. Last year I was pretty much able to just walk in and out without any issues minus the odd time someone spent two seconds grabbing it to double check because it was hidden behind the Halofest badge.

Do any of you guys draw ? I'd like to plan a drink 'n draw meetup for the evening of the 30th since the rest of the con I'd assume people have something better to do :P .

I'm just not sure where to suggest such a thing , I frequent gaf and occasionally use 1up but I'm not a member of the Penny arcade forums.

Got a pair of 3-day passes for my GF and I. This will be my first PAX, though I live right down the street. Though I don't know much about the expo itself, I'm happy to contribute any information about food, lodging, or the area in general as a Seattle resident of 15+ years.

I've seen a couple of mentions of the crepe place. The only one I know of is literally right outside the convention center on the north side. It's a walk-up counter of sorts, with a couple of tables available as seating on the sidewalk. I've never tried it, but it always looks like it's too busy during conventions when I walk by.

If it's a quick breakfast you're after, there's a Blue Water Taco Grill that does pretty good breakfast burritos (and tacos!) less than a block away from the convention. It's on 6th (which borders the convention center on the west side) and Union (borders south side). I think it's pretty mediocre for lunch, but the breakfast is filling and cheap.

If anyone has any specific questions about the area, feel free to shout them out in this thread! Sounds like there are a few locals here, so we should be able to give some good perspectives between us :)

Oh wow, I think you were the only person I tagged more than once. Yeah, let's do it. I never was very good though...
Haha, no worries, I'm probably not any good either. I've only ever played against the AI, never competitively. There was a Dissidia tourney at Prime a few years ago that I signed up for, but when I arrived everyone was really intense and had all of these clearly established Dissidia community rules that they adhered to, so I quickly backed out. No slight against their approach, but when I'm playing against other people in a video game I just can't get that serious about it or it will suck all the fun out for me (when I lose, which is most of the time :-P).

I was going to make sure to my my DS and PSP. I don't really have any MP games for either system though.

The Handheld Lounge will have a good assortment of MP games that you can check out if you want to join up and play with other people. But it's also just nice to kick back in the Lounge on one of the gigantic bean bags and play solo for a while when you need a break.

Hey, I remember you! Glad I got the chance to meet you (and hook you up with some tough-to-find swag).
Oh wow, talk about coincidence! Out of the half a dozen PAXs that I've been to, that's one of my favorite memories. I keep the little Slyvan Deer you gave me on my desk. :-)

(p.s. Sequel someday please? I don't care which platform, it'd be a system seller for me ;-) The Clash of Heroes formula is magic!)

+1 for being a local. I've lived in the area for years and work in downtown Seattle but still, every time I get within a few blocks of the convention center I am filled with excitement at the prospect of the next PAX, no matter how far off it is.

Yep. I live in Capitol Hill. Theres a lot of great places but check out the Honeyhole in cap hill, best sandwiches you'll ever have. I guarantee it.

Now on to more pressing business:

PAX-GAF!!! We shall unite once again this year!!!

I'll be happy to arrange this year's PAX-GAF meetup (unless someone else has laid claim to it?) once again! Last year's went fairly well. I was shocked we were able to cram 30-40 people around 2 ginormous tables at the Taphouse!

Plans are likely to be similar from last year. Keeping it close to the venue, followed by drunken shenanigans on Cap Hill. Perhaps this time we schedule a pub crawl vs. dem other crawls? Isn't that GANG WARFARE?!? Who cares!!!

Suggestions are certainly welcome. Best to PM me if you have questions, etc. I'll start a new thread soon with details. If you're curious how last year went, hit up the following link:

awesome i shall remember to come this time.

This should be my third PAX, and after visiting E3 this year, I like this show way better.

I am going to PAX with a friend from a different forum but I would still definitely try going to a GAF meetup.

Well, I guess I can officially talk about this then!

Press XY To Continue: Transgender Issues In Gaming
From major franchises like Street Fighter and Resident Evil to quirky cult games like Nier and Catherine, video games have a long history of transgender characters. Our panel of transgender game designers, writers and fans takes a look at how transgender people are depicted in video games, and where the industry is heading in terms of letting players explore gender roles through games.

PANELISTS:
Charles Battersby [Lead Satirist, U.S. Department of Electronic Entertainment], Kelly Worrall [Producer, Electronic Arts], Rebecca Heineman [Founding Member, Interplay], Jennell Allyn Jaquays [Chief Creative Officer, Olde Skuul], Katelynn Cusanelli [Actress, MTV Networks], Eric L. Patterson [News Editor, EGM Media, LLC]

YAY!!!

I have only started looking at the list and I already have things I want to go to that would clash for scheduling. I am going to be completely overwhelmed at my first PAX!

What's the best way to pick up a scalped ticket?

A friend of mine just got a spare ticket from someone and wants me to go with him. I'd love to go but I'm not sure where to find a ticket. Is eBay pretty much the best bet? I don't suppose anyone here would have a spare... :P

I only glanced quickly on my phone so maybe it'll be better when I have a chance to look at it on my PC but yeah, I'm not seeing the same number of panels that interested me last year. There seems to be a crap load of GBLT panels.

I dunno, the schedule looks pretty solid to me.

There are a few good podcast panels I'd want to see (Idle Thumbs, Giant Bomb, maybe Extra Credits). The PC Gamer panel with Notch, Rocket, and Sean Vanaman should be awesome, same with the Chet Faliszek/Erik Wolpaw panel.

What kind of stuff is missing that they've had previous years?

I haven't been before to PAX so the panels look interesting to me. I am interested in seeing the key note, making a strip, one of the "how to make it in the industry", one of the LGBT panels, the gearbox panel, at least one of the concerts, etc.
