Never knew of this URL trick thanks for the tip I'll keep in mind next time, but still doesn't excuse the shitty way the site is handling this article, people used to include these lists all in one page.

Now they found a way to get more greedy just for more ad revenue and page hits to see all of it and of course like 99% of readers of the site won't be using this URL trick you told me

The problem isn't that they have given it position 90, nor that it was given position 20 last year, it's how the hell have been moved from 20 to 90. It means they did a bad job in the previous list, or they have done a bad job now.
It seems very based on ~current flavor of the year~ and what's hot in the moment. TF2 isn't hot anymore, it isn't cool to like it now, so they kicked it out.
 
Is Doom really that good?
Above so many classic shooters (which aren't even on the list most of the times)

Think the whole "that you can play now" argument is weird.
Naming it; 'that are popular amongst our editors' would've been better.

Missing a lot of classics (especially shooters and strategy games)
 
Didn't see Starcraft or Starcraft 2 anywhere on the list of supposedly "best PC games." I guess it just falls under "Hardcore Strategy that you pretend to enjoy."Is this a joke?

Seeing that PC's are basically the only place to play RTS properly and that they just released a remaster, it seems like a gross omission. Anyways, game lists are always dumb and PC Gamer is dumb.
 
So many good games.

I don't agree with the rankings, but there's just so many good PC games out there. And so many of them are relatively new.

As long as they have Euro Truck I'm satisfied.


But another thing that strikes me about this list is that so many of these games have active communities around them regardless of how long they have been out. That for me is the true strength of the PC platform.

You're taking the list way too seriously
 
They do this every year, and every year its like they put the names of all the games in a hat and draw them out randomly. I just feel like these lists have become more and more meaningless as the years go on.

And not only that, as the PC Gamer staff gets younger, older games are less likely to be represented just by sheer fact that not enough staff has played them.
 
I love the idea of a list of 'Best games to play as of today' as it removes a huge amount of the nostalgia element. If you did this for consoles, the original Super Mario Bros wouldn't be making it into the top 500 let alone the top 10 like it commonly does for the 'greatest games ever' lists.

The Top 10 here is great, with the exception of Dishonored 2 which I just couldn't get into at all. Nice to see Spelunky still getting acclaim, it's a damn masterpiece.

Valve doesn't really care about TF2 and the game has really fallen far from its original design IMO.

Valve updated the game leaving matchmaking a broken mess for over a year. As far as games as services go, TF2 probably has the worst game-to-service ratio.
 
I like the list. Dishonored 2 and Witcher 3 are some of the best games I've played in the past few years, and having them at 3 and 1, respectively, is great to see.

I do heavily disagree with some of the placements (Overwatch at 13 seems too generous), but that will always happen in one of these lists.

Only issue with Spelunky's position is those other 8 games that are below it besides Dark Souls.

Bioshock doesn't belong on any kind of all time pc list, on any position. Maybe on a games of 2007 list ;)

Yeah... no. Many games from even ten years ago have aged terrible. Dark Messiah of Might & Magic I heard many say has aged pretty good to this day. I played it. Many elements have not.

And that argument feels a little bit pretentious.
 
Bioshock was a super important game and all that, but it's gameplay has dated a lot more than Bioshock 2's has.

If they fixed those awful mouse controls and gave us a really tightly playing PC port, it could probably overcome it's sequel.

But they haven't last I checked.

Where's original Doom, original Quake, some entry on the HOMM series (2 or 3?)... There are classics like Half Life and Planescape Torment... I know all of those can't fit in the top 3. (and no I won't give them 13 pages of ad views to check the list where all these are, that's all they really want.)

They're intentionally valuing newer games over older games because the editors don't have the experience necessary to make a top 100 list of any kind. It is not as if modern games are "better to play" than older games. You can still buy all these games on various download services, so it's not lack of availability.

It'd take me a while to make a personal top 100.

Anyways, it's not a matter of intelligence, it's a matter of not starting playing videogames in 2011 and ignoring all games released before then.
 
The numbers really aren't important and they could have even removed them entirely, it's a good list of 100 games on PC people can check out though. I know I'll look through it later and see if there's any games I may have missed out on.
