PC gamers: What is the most comfortable desk chair ever?

Whatever you do don't buy one with cheap pneumatic gas cylinder in it.

...these are all we have at school.

Once i tried a NeedForSeat i never went back
commander.png

It comes with both a lower back and head cushion. It goes horizontal if you want to sleep or watch a movie. It's really good
Don't go for the Ikea Markus, my father has it and it is cheap and not comfortable

It goes horizontal? What do you mean?

I just bought an Ikea Markus and I love it. The high back is great and I can rest my head on it nicely.

I had a chair just like that one from Staples. It was absolute crap. Cheap materials, way too large of a seating area, etc. The Ikea Markus is a way better buy in that price bracket IMO.

I agree this chair is complete crap materials. I purchased (2) of them for brother and I. We hate em.

Bad arm wrists (Needed to use duck tape to keep them on)
Hydraulics on both broke (One leaked oil all over)
Overall suck but it was a cheap chair.

I bought one of those three years ago. You'll learn to hate it eventually. In hindsight, I'd actually say it's overpriced.

What didn't you like about it? There's an Ikea opening near me soon and I was considering picking one of these up to replace my current chair (an office depot special that has lost all padding, hydraulics, and is flaking within 2 years of buying it).

The wirecutter review had me kind of sold :/

I know I should probably spend double for a used Aeron, but I can't bring myself to do it.

Cheap bonded leather chairs are the worst. The "leather" is paper thin and it flakes off, the hydraulics will eventually give out, and the seat cushion will be deformed and flat within a year or two. Paying more than $50 for a bonded leather chair is a mistake.

@Toto's pics... how does that even happen :/

Recently got my butt on the aeron chair (before losing job).

It's supportive (I didn't try posture fit, I got the back thing that you can slide though, at the right point it's just perfect).
It's also comfortable. I've not found many chairs that are both.

Very adjustable.
Very expensive for what it is, but it should last and if you go back and sit on your old chair you will jump off.

*sits up to read this thread because feel guilty about slumping in bed in front of laptop*

I really should use a chair more often lol, thanks for the thread!

I can't find the specific model we have at work, but it's the net/mesh kind. They are so comfortable, beats the pants off my cushiony leather chair here at home.

I was told they're about $800 a piece even with the steep discount we get, so, there's that.

Good day to my fellow Herman Miller owners. I am rocking the Aeron and I love it.

Good chairs are expensive but definitely worth it for health and comfort reasons.

This is it. Don't be cheap on this one, GAF. This is your back. If you're at a job/game A LOT, don't be a cheapskate for your health.

Got an Aeron knockoff from Staples for about $120, and so far it's the best chair I've ever owned. Will it hold up as long as an Aeron? No, but I just moved and needed a new chair to use while I save up to buy a better one in a year or two (probably an Embody because they look fucking amazing).

Probably a fully loaded Aeron.

Aeron isn't the plushest chair I've ever sat in, but it is the healthiest chair I've sat in. I never feel bad getting up out of it. My back never feels sore.

If I had to do it over I might consider the Steelcase Leap, though. The arm adjustability is nice.

I really need to replace the chair I'm using at the moment (it's completely busted and it's killing my ass), but I really don't have $400 to spare to buy something half decent... Does anyone here have any recommendations for <$100 chairs that aren't complete crap (that isn't from IKEA because they don't have stores in my country)? I'll get a decent chair when I start earning some money but I need something to use in the meanwhile.

This is the one I just bought. $200. Recommended by Wirecutter as a cheaper alternative to the Steelcase Leap. It's definitely comfortable, but it doesn't have all the adjustability that an $800 chair would provide. My only complaint is that the distance between the armrests isn't adjustable. Sometimes it feels cramped and I just take off the armrests.

Herman Miller has 12 year warranties on their chairs. They amortize down to being quite affordable, if you can afford the initial cost.

Though the gas cylinder only has 3 years iirc.

Looking at the US site, that's not the case... http://www.hermanmiller.com/content/dam/hermanmiller/documents/policies_legal/HMI_Warranty.pdf

Where I bought my chair from (officefurniturescene uk):

Warranty (unlimited use)

The Herman Miller Aeron Chair has a 12 year manufacturers warranty with the exception of the Pellicle (5 years)and the gas lift (3 years).

Good thread, I've been thinking of upgrading my desk and chair although it probably won't be until next year.

I was looking into these desks:

Walker Edison Soreno 3-Piece Corner Desk

Techni Mobili L-shaped Glass Computer Desk

I was looking into these chairs:

Steelcase Leap Fabric Chair or maybe the gesture.

DXRacer Office Chairs.

Aeron Chair by Herman Miller

I don't think I have any stores nearby where I can try out these chairs so I have to rely on what I read online... These seem to be the big ones too and it doesn't seem like I can go wrong with any of them. I haven't really looked at the size I need yet and I wanted to wait until after I got my desk first. I would probably go to each companies website and look at each option available. The racer seems neat because it includes a head rest. The Herman Miller has a nice long warranty. I sit all day at work and all the time at home as a big PC Gamer so I definitely need an ergonomic chair that won't get hot as I sit on it, doesn't make my butt and legs tired, and probably the most important supports my back.

Looking into getting this one:

It's the "Big Boss" [I'm not making that shit up, haha] Manhattan-style.

Definately because of its design though, looks awesome.

There are some mesh office chairs that my work bought for our training center and a few offices from Costco.

Damn they are comfortable and make my home chair suck.

I may go get one of those today (I think they are about $150).

I would NEVER buy a chair without testing it first, too easy to get something you don't like.

What didn't you like about it? There's an Ikea opening near me soon and I was considering picking one of these up to replace my current chair (an office depot special that has lost all padding, hydraulics, and is flaking within 2 years of buying it).

What annoyed me quickly was that the casters can't be locked. I constantly have to "re-adjust" the position of the chair every time I move. After around a year, it started to fall apart: The texture covering the head-support started to tear (which is only a cosmetic issue, but still) and the hip-support foampiece (which is simply sewed into the "net") dislocated itself. After that, the chair felt uncomfortable and unbalanced. And not too long after that, the chair started to cause backpain. My first impression of the chair was good, and so was the price. But in hindsight, you should either get a "real" office chair or just a regular chair.

Any suggestions for desks? I have been meaning to do this as well but it seems very expensive.

This is the one I plan on building, basically. It's very easy, cheaper than any desk you could purchase, and spacious. If you can handle the small amount of assembly, it's worth it.

I too have switched to standing since moving and honestly my back or ass haven't hurt since. I don't have the cash to throw away on a $1k chair, wish I did. Can't complain though, I actually prefer standing especially after sitting all day at work.

I just like a basic mesh chair personally. You can't go wrong for the shape of your back since it's just fabric. It actually got rid of some horrible back pains I used to suffer too and whenever I feel them coming on again, I just go sit there for a bit and push myself right back into it. Always does the trick. I have tried a number of leather chairs but they always resulted in back pain.

I have one of these bad boys. Generally it's fine, doesn't have any adjustments you can make to it though and for about a week I had some lower back pain which made sitting in the chair deeply uncomfortable. But otherwise it's fine and not a completely mental price either.

If I had the money, the best thing I could do for my health would be to get a elevation desk. They are expensive, but if you stand up for half the time you would be sitting, you will get so much more milage out of life when you get older. all the back problems we have in the west is not normal..

I'd like to find a chair with a big seat so I can sit cross-legged.

Part of why I bought the Steelcase Gesture. The seat is huge and the arms can be moved out of the way for super comfortable cross-legged sitting. Also, the edges of the seat are soft which really helps.

You absolutely can go wrong with mesh. My office is equipped with cheap Office Depot mesh chairs. Their back support is way too soft.

I did check my local craigslist (SF) and it looks like there are a lot of Freedoms around for a really low price so I'll probably get one of those.
