Pc gaming.... why wait for next gen when we have it now?

Really, anything but all-platform is scrub-tier.

I think it should be obvious to most reasonable people that if you have a nice PC and you can play a multiplatform game on it, it's the best way to play it. And it should be obvious that there are a ton of great PC exclusives.

But a great PC doesn't do everything.

Emulation is wonderful, but even the best emulators are often emulating original hardware delays, meaning you'll get either screen tearing or lag. Personally, I'm too picky and need to own the original hardware in some cases (but not all). And there are platforms where emulation simply can't cut it. Even Naomi/Dreamcast isn't really worth emulating, making the real hardware a necessity.

I'm still surprised people don't think PC can "comfy couch" too at this age.

Heh I know. Just finished Prototype 2, Batman AC, and working on SR3.
All from my PC, with a 360 controller. Shit is not hard ...

A lot of people on consoles seem to think it's so hard to get this shit hooked up right, so they just don't bother. It really is not brain science, but if you enjoy 360/PS3 only more power to you.

I love my PC, and consoles. Nice to have options, prefer to play everything on PC though it's so much more enjoyable.

Not enough games that interest me on the PC. No Nintendo exclusives or Square RPGs or a plethora of other Japanese titles (particularly with handhelds) to be found. I don't care much about the graphical/performance upgrades that PC gaming offers, either. Few games that I find appealing = continued disinterest.

That, and my current laptop sucks for gaming, and I'm not upgrading for two or three games that I could get on consoles anyway.

lol, just ignore him. He's saying that the "vast majority" of the "best games" are developed for console and then ported. Never mind the fact that the PC is the best version in spite of that, the guy can barely even make a point. He just types the first thing that pops into his brain in every thread.

Actually, out of the vast majority of the major publishers. EA are one of the few who truly give the PC equal, if not better support. Ironically enough they are the most hated by PC gamers. It's shambolic.

So I'm guessing the only right answer for the PC eletists to hear from a console only gamer is: "I'm super lazy, it's why I console."
That said and speaking from personal experience, it's quicker and more convenient to buy things on Steam than it is on Wiiware, XBLA and PSN.

Ease of use and convenience have stopped being in the favour of consoles and dipped towards the PC - with the right setup, obviously. The guy's setup lends itself better to consoles because he doesn't have his PC set up that way. And that's totally fine for him, just not applicable to other people.

I can say that I prefer playing Wii games over PS360 games because I have my Wii connected to the Plasma TV and my PS360 hooked up to a black and white 10" CRT, but people rightfully wouldn't let me make the general argument that Wii games are better than PS360 games because my personal setup is less than ideal.

Yea but all your friends are on the consoles and also trophies [for memories]. And also [wireless] PS3 controller not a Xbox PC controller.

Is the next Zelda game going to be on PC?

...just sayin'. ;)

I remember when I used to care about graphics... seems like ages ago. Glad I grew out of that.

Does it mean you too can be childish?

Not really being childish. Just wondering why you'd choose to call me out after 12+ pages of raw unfiltered PC elitism. That stuff is pretty thick.

I'm making a point that PC doesn't have games that everyone cares about nor do we all give a shit about polygon count and DX11.

holy shit, you're right! that's another point for pc gaming, none of those shitty zelda games.

bully for you? apparently a lot of people do, if the threads about next-gen consoles are anything to go on.

you think you're better than us??!!!!
pfffffffffffff if you want to play your next Zelda you can play it right now, just choose whichever of the 4 previous ones

I think acting like caring about graphics is something you "grow out of", implying that people who do so are immature, is pretty childish, yes.

I'm not defending the insults from the PC gamers being hurled at other people. I've seen enough of those that I'm used to them, even if I think they're pretty low. This, though, is a pretty new bit of mental gymnastics.

I dunno I'm pretty high up there on the console fanboyism scale and even I can admit PC gaming has plenty of great exclusives that cater to all kinds of gamers.

I "grew out of it". I've moved on. It's something that doesn't interest me anymore. Sorry if that offended you. Was it a snide comment? Certainly. I found it deserving after sloughing through so much cliche anti console drivel. You're correct though. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Gallilieo wasn't an elitist for telling people the sun doesn't revolve around the earth.

Wow, just... wow. PC gamers being compared to Gallilieo. I thought I'd seen it all.

I wasn't offended, I just found it odd enough. No worries :)

Weird, I suspect Skyrim fully modded with ENB stuff, that 'open cities' mod and some of those 'large scale battles' mods is exactly the same level of world detail you would expect to see in TESVI.

So what? I never said that PC isn't capable of delivering experiences that you will see next generation. The concept of generations doesn't really apply to PC in the same way, but that doesn't mean that PC gaming is not affected by the transition to next generation we are going to see on consoles.

I got banned the last time I told someone making inflammatory and ignorant "ALL PC GAMERS ARE ELITIST!" posts to fuck off, so I went with a metaphor about how sometimes deeply held beliefs about something can be wrong instead.

And that when someone points out that someone is wrong about something, you can either choose to learn from it, or you can decry them as a heretic for daring to speak against your position.

Elitists.

It means something.

It's not just a "fuck you, how dare you tell me I'm wrong!" defence.

EDIT:

True, but I think it's possible to derive what 'next gen' experiences are likely to offer in terms of scale and capability by looking at things like 'high end' PC mods currently available.

I suspect it's not going to be long before the actual limits of game experiences are going to be the development costs (both financially but also in man hours required) rather than technical limitations anyway.

I never said "ALL PC GAMERS ARE ELITIST". Also, kudos to your subtle yet flavorful use of bolding. Creativity is always appreciated.

There is, unfortunately, enough PC elitism on gaming forums that if translated in to something palpable would have the density of a black hole. It's a dark and destructive force that demands you assimilate or be purged in the name of Gabe Newell. Funny you should use the word "heretic" as PC gamers often bring a Christian like quality to a platform debate. You either worship and love our Lord Gabe Newell or you shall forever be banished from the realm and all presence of your being shall be erased from human history.

It just so has it that I like my console games, and I don't care for what the PC offers graphics or otherwise. I enjoy a good PC game here and there, for sure, but I'm not going to sit here farting in to a wine glass and drinking of this swill that "I've gots my next genz right hur so why I needs them consolez?" That's great you have a platform of choice. No need to feel that you must desecrate the holy ground of others to fight the good fight. We're all fine over on this side of the fence :)

I'm back to PC gaming because the console generation went on too long.

Once new gen kicks off, i'll be back on the 360 replacement. Until then, it's back to your regularly scheduled, crashes, patches, shitty drivers and a touch of beta testing.

Now that's some extreme bullshit to the max. There are plenty of exclusives for each platform that are far from "scrub-tier".

I wasn't talking about multiplatform games when I said "all-platform", I was talking about the platforms one owns.

Cheaper
Exclusives (Zelda ain't coming to PC)
In your lounge where it's nice and comfy
Pop in and play
PC is restricted to mouse, keyboard and standard controller. Ain't gonna get a GamePad on PC.
Windows blows (Mac is getting better for gaming, finally)

I have nothing against those who love PC gaming, I just gave it up years ago (Was solely PC/computer gamer for nearly 20 years) for the reasons above.

No GamePad support.....are you high bra?
PCs have had GamePads for years.

Windows blows....are some people still stuck on Vista or something?
Get serious bra

GamePad. You know the Wii U's new controller.

Image Search GamePad and tell me the first 100 results.
Gamepad is just another word for Controller...actually its much more widespread than controller.
Pretty much everyone i know says "pass the pad"...so dont come here all smug and shit like Wii Us Gamepad is the only gamepad in the world and simply mentioning the word GamePad suddenly means you are talking about the Wii Us GamePad.

This perhaps illustrates the difference between the console and PC mindset.

Consoles
  • Put in game, it always works.
  • If your console ever breaks, you can get identical hardware and be assured all your games work.

PC
  • Steam is down, can't play games.
  • You're banned from Steam, lose access to every game you own.
  • DRM doesn't work, can't play your game.
  • Install game, spend ages adjusting settings to try and get the best graphical/framerate compromise.
  • Want to play console games on PC, download emulator, fiddle with settings for ages to try and get it to work correctly.
  • Want to sell a downloaded game? Wait, you can't.
  • A game downloaded from Steam doesn't work? No refund.

Who let these Juniors in, what the fuck is this shit......have you never played a game on PC....the average game is as plug and play as it gets.

I don't understand how people game on PC. The controls are terrible I just can't get used to using a keyboard and mouse for gaming. Games like Grand Theft Auto seem like games that need a controller. And you can get one but then you have to setup the controller for each game, it's such a hassle. I've tried multiple times to get into PC gaming but the controls always frustrate me to going back to consoles.

Hahaha, this is a joke, nah this has to be a joke... you must not have touched a PC game in the last 20 years or some shit.
Seriously whats up with the new wave of juniors.....now they are just saying shit for the sake of saying it without any real evidence.

The 360s pad is pretty much setup in all major releases, it plays exactly as it would if you were actually on 360....the only "setting up" you need to do is invert the Y axis if thats what floats your boat.

P.S M/KB > Pad when it comes to FPS and RTS games.

I feel dumber having read this. Also, the bolded is a good part of PC gaming...

and consoles also have games that not everyone cares about, see? it can be the other way too. and A LOT of people give a damn about graphics, a whole hell of a lot. it's the first selling point of a console/graphics card.

and how could console owners feel attacked in this thread when we've had gems such as :
Steam is down, can't play games.

or this little saucy number

Well, if NeoGaf is a representation of the whole community I'd rather say PC gaming is for people who like to talk about games instead of playing them. ;)

this one is a probably a trolling comment (or just joking but in these threads you never know)

jeez.. pc is for people who would like to spend their time on a pc and complain about how bad consoles are. xbox/ps3 is for people who would like to spend their time laying on a couch trash talking over the mic.. basically.

and finally, last but not least.

While I do want to build another gaming PC, I am annoyed by the constant upgrading that is needed to catch up. I built an awesome machine 5 years ago that is crappy by today's standards. As soon as you build the PC there will be better parts needed in less than a year in some instances, then you have to shell out another $250 or whatever for a new CPU or Mobo, Video card etc... In order to fully benefit from the latest games I have to basically replace everything minus the case.

seriously now, still with the constant ipgrade bullshit? that is demonstrably false and I dare say it's people with an agenda that like to push this as if it gospel. so i ask again, who's attacking who? these threads always end the same, feelings hurt, bannings galore (21 the last time) and nobody learning anything from these increasingly bloody encounters.
