No-one put a gun to their head and *made* the game have to be so graphically demanding. And if it hadn't been, they could perhaps have expended more manhours on unique content.
[Having said that, I wonder if they *were* forced - by management, or by project lead - to make it be so graphically demanding, in some effort to "Live up to the Final Fantasy name". Would this have had significantly more content if it was Dragon Quest - The MMO?]

I say tanked b/c the sales would have most likely been higher on the PS3 with 4-5x or w/e it is install base. They can't do HD towns b/c it's too hard, so they simply don't have them and you get XIII which is pretty much a straight line game until you get to the world which is open. vXIII is going to be a 4-5 year game when it's all said and done.

so you can get level 29 in 10 hours? Because I was talking to the person who said I played less than 10 hours.

Wada and SE decided to play "king maker" in Japan and tried to push the 360, even though 360 has absolutely no traction in Japan whatsoever, their output on the PS3 is still pitiful, if it wasn't for their DS remakes and DQ, they would have been in trouble. I lost interest in FFXIII after about an hour or so, they need better writers because the characters in that game were uninteresting as fuck to anyone who isn't a teen.
The bottomline is that Wada needs to go, some of their business decisions simply made no sense.

For the hundreth time, I am not defending the game or saying I know more than anyone else. You have no proff of me saying I know more than any one of you guys. None of you guys can say (and have it be true) that I know nothing about the game because I have a rank this or that.
I call people out if their making stuff up. You can not say that no one has made up exaggerated claims and bullshit to continue the flame war on FFXIV. Like the copy and paste claims of no one copy and paste terrain and other stuff before.
I'm actually laughing at how serious you guys take this game to the point that if someone doesn't agree with you, you sit and making up all kinds of claims about this person to make them look bad. When none of it is true. :lol

Well at least this confirms S-E isnt 100% blind. Lots of interviews, keeping it free until the updates that bring it up to most peoples standards, and being a little less secretive to it's community...as long as they keep this up with a decent regular schedule of updates/content additions, they should be able to recover.

Honestly the broken record of "we should have fixed this in Beta" just proves what most of us who played Beta and weren't quite taken with the game were saying:
The game needed more development time, but you figured you could rush it out, make bank, and fix problems later because your XI audience was already used to your bullshit.

Their portable games (AKA the vast majority of the games they actually produce nowadays) are pretty great, I'd say. Been very pleased with their DS and PSP offerings.

I think the biggest problem with FFXIV is that no one in the user base can spell the word "trial" properly.
Yet when people do the same for FFXIV by judging it from watching a video or read a review you speak as if this is the wrong thing to do. I agree that it is, but don't call people out for judging a game using the same method you do.
And people call you out for speaking when you have no idea what you are saying. You call out games like WoW for having art that looks like scribbles and being too casual or easy to play when you've done nothing but watch a YouTube video (if you even did, since you never provide said videos when asked).Londa said:

Windows Vista had a bad start and people try to avoid Vista. I'm sure Vista works fine now but it will always be stuck in alot of people's mind. I think FFXIV will be similar to Vista.
I'm glad they gave out $26 worth of monthly fee. I don't feel so bad spending $50 now.
Lets see if they can turn this 180degrees in 1 month.

FFXI was an awesome game on day 1 USA release. Which is 1-2 years after Japan release (don't remember). I had so much fun back then. It was a different kind of fun/excitement that WoW can't give.
FFXIV gave me non of that fun feeling. It gave me the Asheron Call 2 feeling which I canceled that game 30 days afterwards.
