PCs really are the shit these days.

I'm dissatisfied with every display available on the market.

Yeah, I stopped PC gaming because I have to upgrade the hardware every year or so, pay 200 for a new Graphics Card, update my ram, motherboard etc, etc; I don't see it being worth the money or hassle.

So I'm back to console gaming.

Why would you do that? I'm gaming on my PC which cost me less than a thousand dollars Canadian in 2008 and hasn't been upgraded since.

My 2560X1440 monitor feels inadequate now.

Does anyone have some affordable speaker solutions for a desktop?

They sound smazing.

I'm very happy with my first rig, which is approaching its 3rd year.

Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.6Ghz
4 GB DDR3
Radeon HD 6850

Looking to upgrade soonish.

i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz
GTX 680
8GB DDR3
SSD
24" 1080P Liyama Prolite

It does the job, was super high end when I bought it. It'll last another year or two.

I'm not sure, but my computer constantly has problems. I cleaned it regularly, i upgraded it two years ago, and its just gone to shit. Blue Screen, crashes (due to video card). So I'm guessing I stressed my graphics card. out or something. Having a computer just doesn't work out for me.

Maybe I'm just a fucking idiot and I don't know how to computer.

I've got:

i7 4770k @ 4ghz
32 GB RAM
2x 256GB SSD and 1x512GB SSD
LG 34 UM95 3440x1440 monitor
Radeon 290X Tri-X
AX860 Corsair PSU

Dam that is a nice ass screen, I saw something similar on sale on Newegg. How do you like it? Thinking about getting one... might need to upgrade my GPU tho, I got a 560TI.

My PC is now showing it's age.

2500k, 8GB RAM, 6950.

I may need to upgrade my RAM and GPU at the very least. Will wait until the new GPUs are released.

I love having my PC connected to my tv. Too used to being able to just throw up whatever videos/streams I want. Can't imagine not having this kind of setup now

Working on a projector setup in another room though. Still need to finish cleaning/painting/recarpeting and finding a good screen and a reciever. For now just projecting onto a wall though. Doesn't look the best like this, but it's been pretty fun having a 100-120"+ screen for gaming and watching tv

Oh yeah, another thing about my laptop is that it has Intel WiDi.
I got the Netgear PushToTV adapter to connect to the television, but I haven't bothered to set it up yet.

Yeah, I know, input lag, meh, I don't really do anything that's input lag-sensitive (don't play any FPSs, etc.)

Can't cheap out on the graphics card. It is the most important component in a gaming PC. Invest in a $400 dollar card and it will last you 5+ years.

in a world where people spend their evenings with their necks arched downward squinting into portable screens, an opulent sprawling desktop with multiple monitors, a mechanical keyboard and bookshelf speakers is sorely underrated.

As are the portables you notate. PC's are amazing and as easy to get into and build these days. I've convinced more than several friends into building or have flat out built their rigs just because I'm excited to see them have a worthwhile powerful PC.

Remember, you can't use your discrete GPU for any games and use WiDi at the same time.

Ah. Didn't know that (although on thinking about it, it makes sense I guess).
Well, that kind of sucks.

Ah well, I still have a bunch of GoG games that will run fine on even the integrated card.
Plus web browsing and whatnot is fine, of course.

I love it, mainly bought it for work, and it's amazing for Photoshop use. It's the first monitor I've used that can replace dual monitors for productivity.

Great for gaming too. FPS feel so immersive in 21:9. Some older games don't play nice with the 21:9 aspect ratio, but most new releases work just fine.

Just get an HDMI cable and connect it to your TV. Hook up an XBox 360/PS4 controller and use Unified Remote Server to control the thing from your couch off of your phone. Otherwise, for older games that don't either don't work well with or don't support controllers... use a wireless mouse/keyboard with a lapdesk or get one of those keyboard touchpad combo keyboards.

Return the WiDi receiver and that ought to give you $100 to play with. More than enough to buy what you'd need to have an actually good experience using your PC on your TV.

Oh, I know, I have plenty of other ways to go about things (no XBox or PS4 controller [or XBox or PS4 system], but have the far superior Logitech F710 controller), but the WiDi was/is a nice option to have as well (and should work fine for plenty of the games that I do play anyway), plus I got the PushToTV thing for much cheaper than that, so not too big a deal.

i5 3350p
R9 270x
8GB Corsair Vengeance
128GB Samsung SSD
2TB WD HDD
1080p LG monitor and an old shitty 1440x900 monitor, plus an HDMI splitter leading to a 32" 1080p TV. Mostly for watching film and TV.

what does my ram even do? 16gb seems like overkill. i know it doesn't do shit for games, and for video editing it didn't seem to help at all. my 2006 macbook pro felt faster.

RAM doesn't generally make a performance difference on the machine (unless you're out of it and using virtual memory). It just means you can have more programs open at the same time. If you don't multitask or open tens/hundreds of tabs at once much, 16GB is waaay overkill currently.

I have a midrange gaming PC which I'm happy with because I mostly play indie titles (and have a very tight budget). Recently upgraded the CPU from an Intel 2.4 GHz dual core. Everything runs much faster now.

AMD 6300 3.5 GHz
4 gigs RAM
GTX 560ti

what would i need to speed up rendering times for videos? or is it slow no matter what?

Do any of you have your PC's connected to a receiver through HDMI? I do and it annoys me every time I turn it off, Plex will switch to one of my other monitors. But if I connect the HDMI cable directly to the TV, then I will lose out on surround sound. =/

Too bad progress on PCs is slowing down considerably. My 3.5 year old i7 2600K is still very much relevant today. I was planning to upgrade to a Haswell but there's really no need at all. I guess I'll just wait for Skylake because there'll be a lot of new features like DDR4 RAM and PCI Express 4.0.

My first rig ever

i5-4670K
GTX 770 2GB
8 GB Ram
128 GB SSD
1 TB HDD

When I built, AMD cards were stupid overpriced due to coin mining, Probably would have gotten a 280X if it was reasonably priced instead of the 770 at the time
