Penny Arcade: Deus Ex Wii U has graphic improvements, new game play, strategy guide

Some really neat stuff in there

“The hacking by touch is so cool, it's like it was intended all along to be done by touch. And by leaving the main screen open, you can look around and make sure no one will spot you while hacking,” Pedneault said. “So that's one of the things that we instantly thought, seeing the Wii U, that would work well, and that's exactly the case. We have this ultimate experience.”

“Right now, this is the best-looking Deus Ex,” Pedneault said. “It's even sharper than the PC version.” While the game does look noticeably nicer than it did on 360 and PS3, I couldn't compare it to a high-end PC, and when I pressed Pendeault to be specific about performance differences, he would only say that the team has worked on adjusting the game's engine, and that the Wii U hardware “helped” with that task.

(Yes i know "PR blabber"... But its part of the article)

EDIT: He propably means added stuff to the engine itself that the original version didn't have. Theres no chance in hell it looks better than the PC version.

Pedneault started by clarifying that he didn't want me to think of this game as a simple port. “Our goal right off the bat was not to make a port. We really wanted to take this opportunity working on the game again to just change what was ehh, so-so with the game and bring some new features to the game,” he said.

Pedneault showed how a player who explored all three branches could sneak around through the side rooms, through vents, hack the turret, and then pick it up to blast Barrett. So yes, the game's boss fights are redone, but they'll still familiar. The good news is, they're not the only change Pedneault's team has added to Human Revolution.

For starters, Jensen will have access to a new augmentation that upgrades smart vision. The original game's smart vision allowed players to see through walls, but now you'll be able to use the Wii U GamePad to look around and gather even more information about your surroundings, including enemy armor, health, and loot. Low on tranquilizer darts? Check that guard using the upgraded smart vision to see if he's carrying any.

Since this is a “director's cut” version of Human Revolution, you'll be able to access developer commentary while playing through the game. Pedneault said the game contains more than 8 hours' worth of audio, from the original team that worked on Human Revolution. The commentary doesn't stop the game, but narrates over it.

Theres ALOT more interesting stuff in the article:

Read the following line. It didn't happen.

It's typical PR and marketing, you're not going to downplay the visuals, you do want people to buy the product afterall so some truths are bent. It's always been the way.

Will buy it at launch for 29.99 like I bought NFS. Can't say I'll pay much attention to it at a higher price sadly.

Interesting. While I laughed about the idea of this port at first, it's now shaping up to be a must buy.

My post should have been.

Well, let's be honest, it is literally impossible for it to even compare to the PC version in IQ, let alone best it, so he's full of shit.

I missed Deus Ex first time around and I was put off by complaints about the boss battles. I do own (have access to) the Onlive version because it cost a £1 when I signed up but I never went back to it after the first few areas due to it being on Onlive.

So an improved Wii U port might just be what I'm looking for. Director's commentary is a nice addition, but it is the redesigned boss fights and included DLC that is pushing me to consider this.

You mean 1080p?

And i wouldn't bet on it. But i take the non jaggie shadows and the AA!

I think he really meant 1800p :p As a joke, since the article mentioned sharpness above the PC version. With enough raw horsepower and graphical injections, that shouldn't be possible. I've played it at 1600p, for instance.

Makes sense. They took the improvements from Missing Link, added to that, and applied it to the whole game. It can't match the PC version in resolution or framerate, but the improvements to shaders and lighting are Wii U specific. Same thing with Need for Speed. Nobody says the PC couldn't do it, but they don't have it.

Not so bummed about skipping this game anymore, sounds like it's right at home on the Wii U.

Might still be tempted to pick it up on Steam instead, I'm cheap.

Its just got stuff the PC game didn't. So Dennis abusing his monitor shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Do feel this is another game that'll pass the charts by though.

yeah, that's not gonna happen.
Why not? If the Wii U version has better shaders and lightmaps, it has better shaders and lightmaps. That has absolutely nothing to do with performance or anything. Power is one thing, but at the end of the day, clever coding and better assets trump performance.

Dito. It may has stuff the PC version didn't have implented in the engine. He said they modified the engine for it.

Dosen't have to mean it beats the PC version in visual fidelity. It won't.

What was the frame rate like?

Did you play the 360/PS3 version, if so, is it notably different visually?

Frame rate seemed fine. Unfortunately havent played it, but I have seen footage of it running on console and PC. The Wii U version is sort of sharper, but in the way of someone using a sharpen tool to make everything edgy and shit.

Everybody who haven't already played Deus Ex: HR (irregardless of platform) should get on that right away.

Fantastic game.

I hope the Wii U version sells a ton.

Just like all those other games that looked better on Wii U, naturally.

I suppose a certain amount of improvement isn't out of the question. If they've spent a long time on it, it's entirely possible they've done some proper optimizing (the real kind, not the "twice as compressed" kind).

Game looked like shit and ran like shit at PAX, guess there's an improved build out there now. I've never actually got motion sickness from a game before trying it.
