People who stand on escalators seriously make my blood boil

Very late to the thread but... I apologize in advance...

Screw you OP. The escalator was made for you to stand while it took you up and down to your destination. If you want the luxury of walking up and down, that's what stairs are for. Escalators are extremely convenient for huge stores with like 7 floors and when you have a ton of shit in your hands. The people who try to bum rush those who are following the rules of the escalator are the ones who make my blood boil. Take the stairs next time, or an elevator. If not, wait...

I don't think anyone, including the OP, is referring to malls or department store escalators. Mainly, public transportation, airports, etc. Stuff where timeliness matters.

Also, one could argue that if you're carrying too much stuff and it's a burden for you to walk YOU should be the one taking the elevator rather than block the whole path on an escalator.

well, where I live it is forbidden to walk up and down an escalator. I almost got a ticket once for doing it but the cop let me go with a warning instead.

Why couldn't you just tap the person on the shoulder and ask if you can pass them? Tell them you're in a hurry or something. Is talking to people not a thing anymore? A decent human being will let you pass. If they don't, then yes, you have a right to be angry.

Might be a case of, you think you're in the right but you're really the asshole (not you in particular OP), like a driver raging at another for obeying the speed limit when you're the one driving aggressively and over the limit. #showerthoughts

Because there's no room to walk past the person in front of you. They're single file escalators.

Use the stairs, lazy.

There are no stairs.

Did a guy try to hold your hand on the escalator?

Dude, that look.

They turn sideways, you turn sideways then walk past them. Single file escalators can still fit 2 people on a step if they turn sideways unless extremely obese. In that case, tough luck.

Source: I've passed people on them.

This is a good way to cause an accident. Many people have things that they carry on their person (like a purse or shoulder bag, or maybe they're carrying shopping bags) that could easily snag and cause someone to fall. You should never walk past someone on a single file escalator.

I'm sorry but isn't the entire point of a moving staircase so I can stop for five seconds? Were you raised without manners or did you just actively choose to abandon them in favor of a lifestyle that gets upset in the cosmically small space of time that is an escalator ride?

God help you if you ever go to an airport where people have luggage on the escalator.

What? Just be really careful when passing. No one is gonna fall or get snagged. Don't be extreme.

Of course if someone is really large or has a lot of luggage then wait it out, use your common sense and have patience.

The truth is that I made this thread while I was drunk, as I've stated many times, even in the OP. In reality, while I'm annoyed when I am forced to stand on escalators, it's not something that makes my blood boil. That was just the Vodka talking.

The thread title must have been really provocative because nobody is bothering to read the thread or the OP.

It's really not even that big of a deal. Yes, I'm annoyed by it, but it's not like I get into a raging fit over it.

Haha, I'm the opposite. Enjoy the ride, brah. People rushing up the escalator annoy me. Gee, you just saved yourself 10 seconds of travel time.

Anyway, I agree with you if people don't treat the escalator like a highway - people who want to chill should stay right and out of the way of faster traffic. If it's a single lane, fuck that don't stand there.

I can vouch that those escalators are horrible, they are one person wide, so you can't go to another side. There are also no stairs to take if you would want to go that route. Pedestrian traffic around there is horrible to begin with, as it is inside a major courthouse/government center next to a big light rail stop, and it gets worse in winter and the panhandlers come inside there and the surrounding skyways.

TBH though OP, I used to work in the Thrivent building (next to the government center)and I never used that exit and you should never really go that way if you're in a rush. I would either get out of the Thrivent building or the US Bank one and walk to the light rail stop from there.

Standing on airport moving walkways is a jerk move i'll never understand, but an escalator? Chill out, you're supposed to stand and wait. Do you climb onto the roof of elevators and shimmy up the wires to get to your destination faster?

Yeah, I'll definitely try using a different exit in the future.

One thing that is awesome about downtown Minneapolis is our skyway system. You can get to almost any building without ever stepping foot outside. Pretty useful for the winter seasons.

This would be pretty badass.

Or you can use them how they are designed and speed up your trip to the top.

I've noticed in Canada people stand side by side on escalators and it frustrates me to no end. It goes from being a faster trip to a slower trip if you stand, and since most malls don't have stairs anymore (or easy access) it's a headache.

I always take the stairs for that reason.

I mean, you're only having to wait an extra 10 seconds or so to get to the top. World's not gonna end.

I really wish they would just let this thread die, lol. Had I been sober, I would have never made this thread. Every time it gets bumped, my decision to post something this stupid keeps rubbing itself in my face.

Edit: Oh, damn. I didn't realize how old this thread was. Sorry for posting, brainchild...

Well OP, while i share your habit of not standing still in scalators and just climbing up to save time, technically speaking, people like us are using the scalators wrong, and people standing still are using them as intended.

Here's a life hack: Use regular stairs when possible, chances are you'll go up/down faster that way.
