People saying that the Sun Chips bag weren't a big deal:
Obviously you haven't been in a lecture hall, let alone a midterm, when somebody opens and starts eating from a bag of Eco-friendly Sun Chips.

Who the hell eats during a mid term?

I also used to love crystal pepsi. It wasn't that great regular, but I would stick it in the freezer until it became like a slush, and oh man was it good that way.

This really was the best way to have it. I remember making crystal pepsi snowcones mixed in with a little bit of cherry flavoring. So good.

Hopefully...and bravo.

The end of petroleum-based plastics?
Man with our search for alternative renewable energy sources....does petroleum have a bright future ahead of itself? (no-pun intended)

I'm honestly curious because I have friends who are studying petroleum engineering, and other than it being the highest-paid major coming out of my university, they have no clue what they're going to do when they graduate.

Is everything moving away from petroleum-based engineering?

Who the hell eats during a mid term?

Dude, even eating from a regular bag of chips during a midterm is going to be distracting.

Sun Chips were on another level entirely. How that passed focus group testing is beyond me. Completely obnoxious packaging.

Anyone remember that Pepsi 50/50 or Half and Half? I can't remember the name, only that instead of being diet it had half the sugar of regular pepsi. That shit rocked.

Haha so true, I had one of the big bags in my house the other day, the crinkling is so loud its crazy.

This will likely drive up the prices of basic foods necessary for the sustenance of already impoverished peoples, especially if adopted on a large scale.

Plant-based plastics aren't viable.

Yes, which is why it needs to be made from waste products.

Yeah, the article addressed that. Plant-based waste products are being used. They even specifically mentioned the undesirability of using regular plant-based methods.

Not sure if serious

The Sun Chips bag is back. They added something to make it more elastic and it is quieter.
All this talk made me go get sun chips. Bag still loud as ever. Makes eaten them more fun.

I'm going to go eat some sun chips in a public place now, you guys made me hungry.
EDIT: This thread is seriously viral marketing for sun chips, DO ALL OF YOU WORK FOR THEM OR SOMETHING? D:

But how much does it cost in comparison? I doubt they are doing it just for press reasons, it is likely cheaper to make the Plant Based bottles with rising oil prices.

It's a shame they discontinued the Sun Chips bag. I loved them. They felt different, and they were LOUD!
I think some study showed they were so loud they could damage hearing.

The bags were insanely loud. With the proper equipment it was even shown that it was loud enough for ear damage iirc. lol

This. I thought it was typical BS hoopla like others until I had a bag. It didn't seem real, how loud it was.

The bottle is made from switch grass, pine bark, corn husks and other materials.
Ultimately, Pepsi plans to also use orange peels, oat hulls, potato scraps and other leftovers from its food business.

Pretty much everything they're using is plant waste of some sort from their other products. Rather than drive up food prices, PepsiCo will probably save money on not having dispose of the waste when they can just re-use it.

Now, if they can cut out the fossil fuels used in growing, processing, and transporting the waste products, it will truly be free of petroleum.

I never tried the sun chips packaging so I am very curious. How bad can it be?

Duders are either deaf or way into saving the earth that they are straight up lying about the noise bags. Don't get me wrong, we should definitely keep them for the benefits to the environment and they make eating chips entertaining, but let's not underplay the amazing, sonic boom emitting ability of biodegradable sun chip bags.

WTF it's not even biodegradable?

Well, it needs to hold carbonated liquid.

Too bad, though, as the sooner we get to a future where all packaging is biodegradable the sooner I can start littering again.
