It is?
Why is that? Does it make things easier, or more difficult?

I'm having a real tough time aiming in this game at the moment. I remember playing it fine back on the 64, but I'm really bad at it at the moment.
Not sure if it's because it' been like 10 years since I played it, or if it's because of the 360 control scheme, but I really suck :lol
Maybe I just need to get used to it.

Does everyone else switch of the auto aim for multiplayer?

turn down the sensitivity on both the x and y axis, it helps a bit

I'm a little surprised they haven't dropped the prices of the Banjo games to match PD.

Me too. Was kinda expecting Banjo to be the Deal of the Week at least. I'd buy Banjo in an instant at 800.

Yes, unfortunately. It's better than the alternative: being unable to aim at anything because the sensitivity is too high.

agreed, I have the sensitivity way down, prob 10-15% and it actually seems to affect the free aim more than turning/looking, at least more than other games, i don't feel like a tank or anything

Man, I'm just at the 17th challenge and I'm already having trouble.. :lol Guess it'll be very hard to finish all 30.

Is Area 51 Escape broken or am I doing something wrong? Twice now I've gotten on the bike and the mission didn't end.

Just to be sure, the game doesn't save midway through the missions right?? It says "Saving..." from time to time but I assume that's just for stats and stuff. Not that it matters much, I'm actually having fun memorizing the levels, trying do better each time I have the start over and then being all all full of pressure when I'm near the end and almost with no life left.

Did you go to in a door near the hoverbike to get elvis back? the thing with this and other old games is that they are sometimes a bit clueless as to what you might have missed.

Man the RCP gun is so awesome. You know, the one that cloaks you as secondary? It's like playing predator. Whenever I get it, I camp by it and get full ammo. Then I cloak and go on a fucking rampage.

So it seems this game has done 100,000. A cool $1 million in 3 days isn't bad at all, I'd say.

Should be a tad over that. A guy on my friend's list has 0.5% completion and is rank ~110k, so I'm assuming it's done at least 125k for that reason.

You can see how many people have played the game by looking at the overall stats on the leaderboards. It will say in the lower right corner.

EDIT: 111359 people

For real. My favorite part about it is when I know I'm being chased, I'll run into the next room acting like either I didn't see them, or I am trying to run away from them then I'll throw on the cloak. They have no idea where I went, then I come out of no where and unload on them right in front of their faces. :lol

I failed at my first playthrough of mission 2, because having not read the informations regarding the mission, I was stuck at the final door after killing the two turret-guns, and didn't want to backtrack all the way to the first sector to open the last door.

So I played it a second time, and this time realized I could get night-vision goggles. I didn't have to use them in the level though, since it was never dark.

Then I arrive in mission 3, and suddenly it's lights out. I was like "oh my god ! what would have happened if I hadn't found the night goggles !". Then I realised that my Falcon 2 had misteriously gained a scope.

So just so I know, I would have had the night-vision at the beginning of mission 3 no matter what, huh ?

That's the first thing I did. Then I shot the guys coming through the hole, then we talked about who goes where, then Joanna keeps insisting on doing it herself and they leave and I get on the bike, nothing happens.

I'll try again and see what happens.

Got it, this time Jonathan opened the doors.

You have to ride that bike to the door that leads outside. Remember that place from the first level of that mission were you place somehting on an antenna and some enemies came out of a door? I think it was that one, now you have to find it from inside.

EDit: Joanna only insists of doing it herself if you follow him immediately after the talk.

Got yet another replacement 360 from Microsoft last night and the first thing I did was download PD. Haven't played multiplayer yet, but campaign wise 4J studios have done an awesome job porting this, its still the same game I love from so long ago but even better. Glad to see people new to the game are able to appreciate it.

Old school games don't hold your hand. You have to drive through the level then. It's awesome :lol

The single player really does hold up marvelously well. I love how they add in more objectives on each difficulty, the levels really aren't linear nor does it hold your hand. It's been tough readjusting to it after all the straight forward FPS. But damn it is satisfying.

They should have dropped both Banjo games to 800pts. Maybe after that do a deal of the week and bundle both Banjo games together for 1200pts.

It's hard to pay 1200 for those games at this point when Perfect Dark had so much more work put into it and it's only 800. If they do Jet Force Gemini next hopefully they realise 800pts is the sweet spot.

Yea it was 110k as of last night. I bet this game has some incredible legs through word of mouth as well.

The overall total seems to go up every few seconds. Should do well for an XBLA game.

Jesus this game is such a steal at this price.

My bro and I just played multiplayer with some of our friends for hours, reminded me of days of old. Before that we were co-op'ing it up, so we probably played for like four hours total.

I went on an absolute tear on Solo Combat last night. I think I won like 20 games straight with some pretty lopsided scores.

Once you start to memorize the maps and weapon spawns, the multi becomes x100 easier.

So I should turn the sensitivity down and keep auto aim on, or turn it down and turn auto aim off?

At the moment I have default sensitivity with auto aim in (this is how I used to play it back on the 64 and never had any problems in either SP or MP).

I would suggest turning down the x/y sensitivity while leaving everything else as default (that includes auto-aim).

Manual aiming becomes much easier once you tone down the x/y sensitivity. Feels just like the N64 to me.

How's the lag situation for everyone? I picked up a 1600 points card yesterday cause I wanted to buy Chime and refill my points. Now i have like 1480 points left (had 280 before I got my card to refill), and I'm not sure what I want to do with them.

I tried the demo on Wed., and had mixed feelings. I was like woah this looks pretty good and runs silky smooth. At the same time I was like woah the aiming is hella janky. Think after I do some yard work I might play the demo again to get another feel for everything.

Outside of the aiming though the thing that makes me hesitate is all the people saying they've been having bad lag online.

Maybe I should just save my points, but IDK what is coming out anytime remotely soon that I'd spend them on. I could always just wait and see if a good deal of the weak for live comes up.

I have mine about 10% now too. The turning speed when you turn it up is faster than the N64 version (perhaps this contributes to the motion sickness some get). You don't need a fast turning speed at all in single player. Even in multi turning fast isn't very useful if you can't train your sights on the enemy. Especially with if you play with autoaim off as I do. Now it feels like the original, and plays better too.

With the sensitivity down I've got much better at manual aiming. I got some great long distance headshots playing Ravine last night. I'm probably at least as good now as I am on the N64 - any twitchiness is compensated by the smoother action of the sticks and the higher resolution making far away targets clearer. Manual aiming can be so satisfying when you're getting it right.

For me, the single player mission don't hold up very well from a design standpoint. Respawning enemies are awful and they respawn them in the worst places. The game is extremely picky about how to complete objectives. I may get flamed for this but I find Goldeneye's level design and mission structure/objectives to be MUCH better than PD.

Multiplayer is a different matter all together, as I find multiplayer to be fantastic.

True that. I was thinking about JFG when I started playing PD. I borrowed it off my mate back in the day but got stuck not far into it although I could see it was going to be another great gem. But yes, an update like PD for 800? They'd be on the money there.

The game doesn't use much respawning - I'm pretty sure it's possible to clear out every level. The only exception I can think of is the G5 building when you break into the vault.

Goldeneye is much more accessible, objectives are more obvious and the level structure more linear, definitely. I played Goldeneye on an emulator recently and it it feels much more 'arcadey' - the pace is quicker, even on the harder levels. And on initial runs it's more entertaining.

RARE clearly went for a more open level structure in Perfect Dark, and each level is a bit like a mini open world. It's more frustrating to start with - but once you've played it some and you know what you're doing there isn't a problem. Perfect Dark gets better and better on replays. Comparing the two today, GE feels incredibly simplistic next to PD. Rare made an astonishing amount of progress between the two games, it's pretty stunning. But you're right, Perfect Dark doesn't have the initial impact of GE, it takes a while to get into.

Turn x down and y way up then turn off auto aim. Even with auto aim off you still get very slight auto aim, so its not unplayable and your cursor no longer has a mind of its own.

Timesplitters has always been a poor man's Goldeneye imo. Sure it's decent, but it's no Goldeneye and most definitely no PD. Which is a shame really, cause they wouldn't have to do much with them to get them up there. At least in terms of multiplayer.

Its been working fine for me.

"fine" as in whenever you enter a room with another player shit doesn't go freeze-frame until one of you is dead? LUCKY

i know my connection's good, i'm streaming HD shit on Netflix as we speak.

Yep. You get a whole new (very small) weapon/equipment set at the beginning of each mission.

Only had time to play some Single Player, I'm doing everything on Agent to start since it's been so long since I last played. It's crazy the stuff you remember though.

Game still holds up. Pretty fun to be back on the Pelagic II shooting dudes in the face through the little window in the door.

Oh man, I just got that hovercrate from the hangar and filled the dude in the firing range up with combat knives and crossbow bolts.

I love this game >:0

When I used to play this a decade ago, I remember thinking the Perfect Dark levels were pale imitations of the glorious Goldeneye levels. Now? I'm not so sure that's true. I'm not going to insult the GE levels, but the PD levels are just really well designed. They are large without being confusing, with lots of branching pathways and hidden nooks to make sure you learn the ins and outs before you become a master. Grid and Relic are particularly well made, doing a perfect job of funneling players into certain large-scale battles while still making quick strikes fun in the narrow hallways.

This game is so good!

true, but it will be a while till we see a FPS that plays like GoldenEye/PD/Timesplitters.

Scope =/= night vision

I'm having more fun playing this than the modern day ultra scripted shooters. This game is such a blast to play. I really don't get any of the comments saying the gameplay is outdated. Would anyone dare say the original Half Life is outdated? Perfect Dark actually feels fresh compared to the other FPS shooters now on the market. And I still think GE/PD have the best overall formula for a console FPS.

Just like the N64 the challenge are very difficult around Challenge 20. I hate expert sims with 1 hit kill on :/

I just managed to do challenge 20, I never managed to do it on the original. So annoying gaining such a lead on him and then having him catch up because of the shitty sim you're paired with, he came back from my 8-2 lead so many times...

Now I'm having trouble with the one with 4 sims against you in a game of capture the briefcase.

Demo games on xbl don't use any scoreboard saving features so nope that will all be from bought versions (and people with 2 tags on the same xbox the game was purchased on, etc)
