Persona Q is the second $50 game on 3DS - new ATLUS premium?

is it worth it though?

game seems just like a slightly tweaked etrian odyssey game, which really wasn't my thing.

I think senran kagura versus is also priced at $50 retail no?

as long as i get a japanese dub this time...they can charge 60$ for the normal version of the game..

Would be nice, but since it's Atlus there's almost zero chance of there being dual audio.

That's a Vita game, and it's a LE.

lol

I'm buying the premium and digital copy day one.

Atlus, keep taking my money, man.

Luckily, I have Persona 5 on preorder for $35.

what are you talking about? it cost $80

What I said before on this.
I'm totally cool with this. If this is the price they need to charge to get the games over to us and keep themselves in business, fine by me. I highly doubt that Atlus is making hand over fist so I have no problem supporting them.

I love EO games and this looks amazing.

However since I buy games digitally Atlus has effectively trained me to never, ever, ever buy their digital goods day one. If I wait 6 months I can get it half off.

Yeah they have an "Atlus Tax" but they also are one of the few 3rd party publishers on 3DS who regularly have sales.

I'm definitely part of the problem because Atlus can charge whatever they want and still get all my monies.
This is like how they cash in on Star Trek fans, they know these people will pay for anything new, so they take advantage to a ridiculous extent.

Yikes.

At least Ultimax and P5 are safe. Most handheld fans will probably just deal with it, but I can't see them trying to pass off a $70 standard console title without causing a big uproar.

SMTIV had that pretty sweet $30 credit promo with Fire Emblem.

I'm a persona whore so I'll probably still pay whatever. But some more bonuses would be nice.

last year's SMTIV was the first 3DS title to boast that price tag, and I've heard that price be attributed to the speedy localization, the goodies in the first print LE, and the size of the game itself. not sure if any of those claims hold water but I loved SMTIV so whatever.

I would pay triple SMT4's price for any core SMT. Not joking. The series is so well developed from gameplay and storyline perspectives that it (theoretically) needs a premium. I'm still discovering allegorical undertones of SMT4's plot and atmosphere by watching videos of the game after I played it three times over and I feel totally bored when playing most other RPGs because I just don't have the same level of difficulty or control over my character and strategy that I do in mainline SMT.

Persona, though... don't know how to feel about there being a premium on that, personally speaking. I know I'll get hated by virtually everyone here for saying this, but it is my honest opinion that a standard RPG should get a standard price. The dungeon crawling in Q looks tempting, but I don't expect it to be of the intensity of SMT1/2/SJ having looked at a few videos, and the rest of the gameplay / story will probably be par for the course.

In the end, I probably don't care and would approve of a price premium even though I wouldn't be comfortable paying it personally; Atlus is one of the only companies that can produce RPGs that don't suck, and they have an existing fanbase that will pay that premium, so it's to everyone's benefit.

Looking at the replies in the thread they seem to know exactly what they're doing. Their usual audience will buy it anyway. Apparently even twice.

I am not even a die hard persona fan, but I love etrian odyssey and that art style, that's what got me :(

Actually Ultimax is going to be sold for 59.99 in the States so probably Atlus tax on that.

Still getting both.

The premise of the game is already extremely uninteresting (plus, Hamuko isn't on it) and now they are charging $50 for it?

lol

Well, I end up enjoying most Atlus/Handheld games more than the $60 AAA titles I pay for. And they usually end up being lengthier games too. SO. Would I love to continue paying $34.99? Absolutely. But $50 isn't going to stop me from buying these titles (especially when its my favorite series).

I don't mind paying that, but I do wish it was coming a little quicker for that price.

I'm a little crabby about it since I'l be paying it twice. The bonuses in this are junkier than SMTIV's too, and this game doesn't come with a free Ace Attorney 5.

I will still buy it because I want the game that much. That said I do dislike this premium price, I usually only let Nintendo get away with that.

Clearly Atlus has the right idea here. Their fans are clearly sheep who will fork out the $50 without thinking twice.

In similar news, Activision should price Call of Duty at $80-100. Premium pricing needs to be more widely adopted.

I only got SMT IV at launch due to the SMT IV + Fire Emblem 30$ e-shop credit deal. On its own, Persona Q doesn't seem worth the 50$ price tag, so I've no problem waiting. I've also no problem with Atlus charging a premium price as I'm sure they will get enough business at that price point, and why not... if it means ongoing support for titles such as this. I don't feel obligated to pay more than I feel a game is worth, though. It'll be mine at sub 40.

Welcome to capitalism, friend. Companies charge what the market will bear.
