PES 2008 demo on Marketplace

care to explain?

I'm glad you asked!!

The dpad issue is that it hits the inside of the rim that goes round it.

Take a sharp knife and cut around the inside of the rim, like if you were peeling it. Go round a few times so that you have taken of a millimetre or so. Then get a bit of sandpaper and bend it into a semi circle and move it around the inside of the rim between the dpad and the case rim to smooth it out. The DPad then does what it is told!

Just remember to be careful with the knife kids!

i want youtube of how to do that so i never complain about that abd buy most of my games on 360

I'll wait for the PSN version I can actually play (in U.S., also an old-school crank who can't play PES on the 360 pad). I might not even play the demo at all; not a big fan of demos for some reason but this one might be a bit difficult to resist.

Not that it matters

Real men use the stick.

Thats right, i went there.

If you play on the 360, my guess is you're probably better off going with the sticks anyway since the 360 stick is probably superior to even a modded 360 d-pad and you're having to learn a whole new control feel anyway (assuming you played it before 360)--plus you can take advantage of the 16 directions.

For me it's just a matter of d-pad (and DS2) play being hard-wired into my brain. Trying to play with a stick (or 360 pad) would feel as foreign to me as trying to play FIFA.

Did that ages ago. Doesn't really work. I cut off more the a milimetre on the sides but the whole d-pad travels so far that in few minutes it's so close to the side that it stops to respond. On mine it's mostly the "right" direction that does that.

You play some 2d beat'em up and after few fights it looses the "right" input. You look - great, d-pad traveled too far again. You have to forcefully move it back to the left and start again.

It is bit better then before "modding", but the problem didn't go away.

Maybe if I'd cut the sides comepletely it'll be better, but I doubt that. The D-pad was shit since the blue print. I wish MS would just poke their heads and redesign that crap.

decided to record a game, just the first half though, the rest of the game was a little bit boring, no goals, a lot of offsides...

direct feed, but kinda low quality

one thing i really liked is that now it seems you have more control over corner kicks, i was able to easily put the ball pretty much where i wanted.

it's not on that video, but i lold when an opponent got a yellow card for faking a penality foul :lol

oh, and i also got those nasty slowdowns ingame, i got quite a few in a short period of time, it was an extreme case though, it's not like it's happening all the time, but still, you pretty much get a couple of those per game.

Well for me that kills the game if it is in the final version. Let's hope that this is something that will be fixed :/

Thanks for that.

It looks like a real PES now, unlike last years 360 version. Cant wait to get home at try.

weird - absolutely no slow down and i went throught about 10 games. And i was looking for it especially at corners.

Which, incidentally, now seem to be almost guaranteed goals ! I seem to have scored the same identical goal about 7 times already. slight outswinging corner, runner beats man, side footed volley to the left of the keeper. Hmmm....

Just out of curiousity, how do you handle recording direct feed?

Sounds like that awesome 'adaptive AI' they were going on about really works a treat.

cheap tv capture card

Ah ok, so you played it on your PC monitor then? I wish there was some way to record footage without playing it on a PC monitor but there's nothing I'm aware of.

yes and no :lol

yeah, i record via the PC but i'm still able to play on the tv. had to invent something though.

i started looking for some kind of cheap rca adapter or something that could allow me to get two video outputs from just one yellow rca input. i didn't find anything sooo... i opened one scart adapter, found the weld points of the video input on the circuit board and welded a rca cable that i had cut before.

long story short, i plug the yellow rca output into the scart adapter, the scart adapter into the tv and with some rca extension cables i plug the extra rca output i welded into the capture card. i did this basically because when recording, the video feed is not smooth. so i came up with the idea of playing on the tv while recording on the pc.

Yeah well.... i can make a stickman out of stick.

6 days for the Pro Evo demo is absurd, do you think if i bitch and moan at the US blog it'll resonate to Europe to? Hur hur who am I kidding.

started d/l at 11am and its at 76% right now, and its 7pm. god damn it. i thought paying for this would give me better speeds.

My impressions.

AI: The most realistic AI in a WE game, however its also the easiest. I really hope that "TEAM VISION" stuff they talked about makes the game harder, because up until now I have been playing in "Top Player" difficulty and it feels as if I was in easy on past WE games. The defenders dont make stupids mistakes anymore, but they do not "cheat" either, making the game far easier than in past versions.

Graphics: A considerable improvement over WE 2007, the bump mapping in the shirts seems very realistic and it reacts properly according to the lighting in the stadium. The cloth animation is also a nice detail and it looks right, not exagerated as in FIFA. Also, I think the player animations have been vastly improved over past titles in the series and this is very noticeable during replays, which sadly now run at a lower framerate compared to past editions. One more thing, I noticed you cannot change the camera. I hope they do not leave this in the final version since the default camera is too close to the field.

Presentation: Totally revamped interfaced which is very functional and borrows a couple tips from the FIFA 07 menus. Something annoying though is the fact that now the arrows that tell you how the stats of certain players compare against the stats of another player are dark and its harder to tell the difference just by taking a quick look.

Sound: The sountrack of the menus is by far the best in the series. The sound that the ball makes on contact with other surfaces has been captured with great precision and it makes you feel as if you were on the actual field.

Gameplay: I love it. Play the demo and make you own opinion. As I said, the AI cheats far less now, and you will see less stupid decisions, however the keepers still screw up A LOT.

do you have a point?

I think he is saying the final game is going to ship on eighteen Blu-Ray discs.

Anyway the demo is pretty good. Graphically it's a little better than PES6 with better animation and better looking kits and faces but it's still quite "average" looking. Most of the major issues I had with PES6 360 seem to have been fixed and even though the gameplay is occasionally very fast, it doesn't seem overly so. The gripes I had with the demo are diving, the shitty penalty camera, the framerate & v-sync issues during cut scenes and the fact that Seabass still hasn't got over his fetish for that fat twat Adriano.

Honestly though... I expected more from PES 2008 considering the gap between it and Fifa is getting closer but for now it remains the football game to beat.

Thanks for the impressions. Very interested to see how it will work out in multiplayer (haven't really played any single-player since PES 3) and also can't wait to dig in myself--can never get any sense for each new iteration until I pick it up.

corners were fine in PES6. I used to be able to score from them quite often. I did have a problem with free kicks though. If I tried to shoot from a free kick it would either go over or it would hit the wall.

Are the ere going to be more than 5 difficultly levels? One of the things that annoyed me about the last PES was that there were only 5 difficultly levels, so after a while I found that game to be too easy. They need to have a 6th difficulty level like they did before.

Yeah where the hell was my 6 star. >:[

They're trying to force me to go online rigged with Inter stat whores "we shall not be moved".

PC demo is out. Anyone have a list of mirrors?
Seems like it might be bogus. Few PES fansites are saying it's around but none of the major game sites have any news about it.

Pes 2008 is designed for playstation controller.
cant wait for the PC/PS3 demo so i can play with my sixaxis, even if i started not to dislike the 360 controller for PES2008 , its far from beeing as good as DS/6A6

It's definitely out but the server is overloaded.

That's what I noticed.. but it's a bit silly when the company releasing the demo doesn't even have it up on their official site or some of the big sites.

im dling the PC demo but its only 120kb/s , so its a 2hour download :( if anyone got a good mirror let pple know please :p

Damn, all mirrors are shamefully full :( Downloading from pcgames.de ftp, needed to register there :p.

The french magazine Joypad gave PES 2008 a 7/10. They aprreciated cosmetic improvements (new animations and good looking faces on replays) but thought the game was too arcadey, and overall a lazy job from Konami.

The shocking news is they gave Fifa a higher score for the 1st time ever, with a 8/10.

Whats the hell, pc demo has xbox buttons all over it.
Makes more sense than PlayStation icons when you think about it. Hell, I've even considered getting an Xbox 360 controller for PC.
