Pewdiepie claims, almost certainly trolling, that he will delete channel at 50m subs

I do like that Youtubers who hold lots of sway are talking about the issue of people losing subscribers. It definitely hurts your mid range youtubers who don't really have a voice in the wider Youtube sphere. Sucks though that the website is damaging content creators. Or even if it was a glitch it would be nice if that was stated.

What he is complaining about is completely valid. Its something that doesnt only effect him so before you carry on about "waahhh he will only get 1 million views now so sad /s" like a moron you have to think about the bigger picture. It is happening to a lot of channels big and small, take the time to watch H3H3's video on it. Youtube is turning into a very ad centric thing where the trending side of things is completely dominated by poorly performing ads. Shit needs to stop, also the recommended videos thing is fucking shit.

Someone who has made millions needing to worry about how they're going to support themselves?

This problem stems to more then just PewDiePie, and the whole reason he is doing this is in an attempt to force Youtube's hand at either explaining what they changed or fixing it.

When did youtube implement this new ad system that Pewdiepie and crew are complaining it's screwing them over?

About a week ago I think.

And if people think this isn't an issue, A LOT of big Youtubers have complained about it, far more than those highlighted in Pewdiepie's video. No, most aren't going to go as far as deleting their channel, but some people are actually terrified of losing their livlihood, some in the 2 mil+ sub range like CinnamonToastKen.

It's the first algorithm change that caused the animation crash all over again, but much bigger because Youtube has grown exponentially since then.

it's not a publicity stunt and he literally says he'll start a new channel. nice post tho
Guess that's what I get for not bothering to watch the video. Though I'd think it kind of IS that as it's advertising a bold move that draws attention to him and what he wants to say.

Not ad system, discovery system. People aren't finding videos, leading to less ad revenue, leading to people getting screwed over.

And like a month or so ago maybe? I've also had a drop in views, but I'm a tiny ass 1k sub channel as it is, so it's obviously worse for the big guys. You can see it on socialblade where a lot of channels take a huge dip.

Flame shield up.

There are people doing work that actually contribute something substantial and foundational to society, and they get paid dick-all for it, especially compared to what a guy screaming into a camera gets paid.

You guys don't need me to tell you that.

He's "deleting his channel"? He knows how much clout he has. He knows that literally anything he says will be eaten up with glee by his fan base. And if he says something as "controversial" as that, he knows he's looking to generate buzz and attention.

He will not go away. We know this.

I'm a cynical bastard, GAF. Especially when it comes to whiny, entitled YouTubers who have become extremely wealthy because of a system that gave them the freedom to amass such wealth in the first place.

Ah, a rare member of CollectivistGAF has appeared.

It's always a delight to to see people on GAF complaining about Youtubers getting money trough video creation, and thus ignoring everything said video creator said, even if it is legitimate.

PewdiePie brings up good points, and he's certainly not the only one affected by this. The new Algorithm hurts views a lot. Starting over might as well be the right thing to do.

But whatever, he makes money trough it, so fuck him and everything he said right?

What new ad system did Youtube implement?

No one knows because Youtube doesn't tell people shit when they change their algorithms, not even the biggest guy on the site. You just kind of have to let the community infer it on their own.

The current theory is that it went from watch time to engagement (with a side helping of network-sponsored content). That means likes and comments are the most important thing and even then, they're not as important as how much big businesses pay Youtube to get their videos on the front page or whatever.

That "lambo" tweet in the article made me cringe soooo hard.

Don't a buy a Lamborghini if you make Internet videos for a living. Imagine that concept.

Thanks.

This blows. I have a youtube channel that I was going to start working on once the semester's over, but this new system looks like it's gonna make making money a lot more difficult than before (which I guess is the point, but still).

With investments/real estate Pewdiepie can live on dividend and rent payments for the rest of his life. I'm not sure how many other youtubers can say the same. Is anyone on here a popular YouTuber or a rising channel?

They started destroying discovery way back when they implemented the new (read current) interface for the mobile apps. How's anyone supposed to discover shit when they get less than 2 items presented per screen.

And the biggest joke is I've already watched that top video. But keep recommending it YouTube maybe I'll watch it again...

Note that I don't get ads because of YouTube Red, the average user would have a big ass ad in the top position usually.

huh, that's actually not a bad explanation.

It isn't.

People like to complain about PDP because he makes a billion dollars or something, but him being in the game for so long, he'd know his shit.

And yeah, I don't watch PDP, but I can acknowledge this is a problem cause my recommended bar is filled with shiiiit.

so what will happen is he will hit 50 million and be like "heeeheyyyy howz it going bros my nam iz pewwwdieeddeepiweeeeeee, you know how I wuz doing to delete my chanelz, ya thatz not happening thanks for the 50"

Could be true. Ma man probably got tired of making these videos. He made lots of money already and probably wants to do different things in life.

You sound salty or just sad. He's an entertainer he brings joy and entertainment to people what do you do for a living?

Jacksepticeye is a Gaffer, so you could ask him. Not like he'll tell you how much he makes, but estimates have him at like $3 mil a year.

Probably. I'm just saying that to play the world's smallest violin for any YouTuber who makes tens of thousands of dollars a month generating content that requires zero talent or educational background who feels they are getting "fucked over".

Why are you so salty man? He obviously has talent considering he attracts all those people. You're clearly understimating how long it takes to film and edit a video before they're good to go. It's not all about looking at a camera and just letting it roll by itself. If someone popular like him is getting screwed over, then how to do you think smaller channels are doing? It's a good thing he's bringing attention to these issues.

If its that easy, how come you're not doing the same? I mean it should be a piece of cake for you considering it doesn't require talent or educational background, right?

Because it's easier to shit on those that have a lot.

You couldn't even be accurate with the Pewdiepie imitation

He sounds fairly entitled, I'm sure he'll be fine but I'm also glad Youtube changed their algorithm, and I hope they keep changing it. Because I feel like I've been discovering way better content with less views lately instead of always being recommended the latest most popular thing and the biggest channels. Basically I'm glad that I'm not being recommended a pewdiepie video every time I watch anything gaming related anymore.

I feel like I keep getting recommended shit I've already told them I'm not interested in or channels that I'm already subscribed to and videos I've already watched. But I'm glad its working out for you.

Funny how i seems to be mostly the bigger/biggest channels complaining.

If it affected everyone as they seem to claim...well, that's actually impossible, since there has to be content to fill in the gaps. So clearly some channels are benefiting from this

Yeah, I got you.
