Phantasy Star Nova for Vita (developed by Tri-Ace)

Sometimes I just don't know how to act when I hear Tri-Ace.

For every Valkyrie Profile we have Infinite Undiscovery, and for every Resistance of Fate we have Star Ocean 4.

Story will be absolute shit (even though it cannot be any worse than PSU), technically compenent with a battle system that works but is janky.

Getting tired of this train of thought. Quality improved with each game they put out this gen, starting with Infinite Undiscovery as the worst (haven't played it but I've heard and seen enough about it) to Star Ocean 4, to Resonance of Fate. And as far as I'm concerned, Star Ocean 4 is still a good game overall.

Considering that I've played Star Ocean 4 and Resonance of Fate and liked both of them, that's two out of two games that they've made that I enjoyed this gen. SO4 isn't without it's problems but the strengths definitely make up for it. Everyone acts like it's as bad as Superman 64 or something, but that's really not the case. One of the best battle systems this gen, great rpg towns (planet Roak), intense boss battles (some are a little flawed but still fun) and item creation/quests. Not to mention the story actually gets pretty damned good during the last leg of the game. The writing is actually better than a lot of JRPGs I've played this gen. It's really the awful voice acting, and the strange choice in character designs that really throw the balance off a bit. I played through it a second time and my opinion still is pretty much the same about it. Unfortunate flaws but has great moments.
