kiryogi said:But, why charge in the first place? "With the online mode, we want PSU to be a highly interactive community that is constantly evolving and adapting to player participation. The GUARDIANS License at $9.99 per month covers upkeep of the servers, as well as a robust plan for regular monthly content updates," said Sega of America Product Manager Ben Harrison to 1UP.
--------
In this regard though, the updates are rather shallow. The JP have been discussing this in disappointment since our big first update. It's practically just reskins, but nonetheless challenging and fun. But the big issue here is that its all content that's already there but just locked away to be released slowly. Yes you have that right, when you first start PSU, everything will not be available from the get go. The days of being able to go to every area like PSO 1/2? Gone. It'll be like episode 4 of PSOBB.
You'll be slowly fed new content that the offline already has over the months. Thouggh there are online exclusives, its still pretty irritating to think you're paying for that. I'm somehow under the impression that the PSU story mode might have been more (it was advertised to be 40 hours, but it's 25 now) but they probably cut it in half for retail and will release the rest online while charging folks all the more for it. But on the other hand, this weeks update is YAY times. And now what kind of updates US will recieve? I have no clue since I'm playing the JP version anyway.
First update after 1 month of beta hell: Moatoob added, 8 new missions added.
This weeks update: Expert jobs added, all 8 new weapon types added, more techniques/arts added, my room reform tickets added, PM Device Zero added, new clothes added, 5-7 star equipment added, 8 star boards added, Lv cap raised to 60 from 50, first episode 2 story mission added, 2 S rank missions added, 2 new SUVs added.
SailorDaravon said:I'm wondering if that big JP release will be available in the US at launch or not. I understand what they're doing, but they freaking locked most of the weapon types at launch. I'm going to be pretty annoyed if that's what happens here. PSU does not have the type of large/deep content that a MMO does where they can get away with it.
Also isn't 360 supposedly getting exclusive quests/downloads or something? I thought they mentioned that in their justification for having an additional charge for the 360 version. Watch it just be skins or something![]()
kiryogi said:Well here's a tidbit, apparently major nelson is saying Friday. Also from Sega's community rep, Beta data will not be transferred to retail service due to "because the online architecture will be changed between beta to retail. " ;D

kiryogi said:I'm thinking exclusive quests like magazine ones back in the day, can't be too special, be it if they're even ARSED to try. Well also get this, Extra mode is a total copout and also has most of the weapons and stuff locked away. At least most areas are indeed available in both, but you dont get expert classes outside of super powered Ethan in story mode. But it gives you a good feel for the game so I do recommend playing story mode. But dont buy the game if youre only playing story seriously. So far though, the only exclusive online area is a total reskin, but at least it wasn't there in story or extra. Also, the new boss mention for episode 2 is antoher goddamn reskin. D: I hope hes at least hard.
edit: And i'll be pissed as hell if you guys did get all that offhand, but thankfully Miyoshis commentary from E3 confirmed that you guys will be a t least 1-2 months behind us.
SailorDaravon said:Wait extra mode is the offline one right? Why the hell would they lock stuff away on that?If they did, could it be unlocked with an online update? And even if it could, doesn't that screw everyone with no online?
kiryogi said:I don't know if its locked away and meant to be unlocked or if its meant to be that halfassed overall. I mean I'm guessing with the patch updates they could enable things. We'll see tomorrow if it does expand extra mode. Like I said, do not buy PSU thinking story/extra mode is all you need.
Side note: I'm more hardcore than Darkshire ever was. 600+ hours so far on PSUJP not including beta time![]()
Ogni-XR21 said:I don't mind if there are areas you can't go to from the beginning, looking back on PSO most people played EP1 even when EP2 and later on BB EP4 was released.

What a horrible time to have your 360 BREAK DOWN![]()
Don't you know how much hosting 4 player servers and clientside content costs?RuGalz said:Sega needs to learn from Guild Wars. PSU shouldn't have monthly charge, instead, charge expansion packs, quest packs, whatever. Stupid sturbbon Sega.

Andokuky said:I couldn't find a PSU thread for all 3 versions (or any version other than 360) but can anyone tell me if voice chat is enabled in the PC or PS2 versions?
manngc said:That's a horribly short amount of time for a beta test. At best people will have 4 days tops, that's assuming it is uploaded early in the weekend and easily downloaded...
