I wouldn't be at all surprised it they announce a pointing device peripheral. After the huge DS3 last minute, accelerometers bs. Obviously not at this interview though. But I expect a lot of digs at MS and Nintendo. For some reason I'm actually looking forward to this. It seems like the most interesting and entertaining part of all their PR. Can't wait. Round and round, round we go. Spinning the words tralalala.

No announcements will be made at D.I.C.E from Phil and you won't see a true pointing device (wiimote rip off) ever in the life of the PS3 I bet you. I'm speculating.

For starters, it's not a keynote, nor even a presentation. It's just him, on a stage, with a journalist, and the journalist asking him questions. He might drop some new information depending on the questions asked, but don't expect announcements.

It starts in Las Vegas at 10.15am local time. I thought DICE was in the UK for some reason, hence why I thought it had finished some time go :oops.
Ok. What you are saying is that this is probably not going to be a big deal. Damn, I guess I am going to have to wait until GDC for my KZ2 demo.

I'd like to suggest a moratorium on "OMG Jade Raymond is teh HAWT!" posts. Not because i disagree, but because it promotes the whole idea that games are just for socially awkward males. There's a woman in a creative role on one of the most anticipated next gen games this year, and all we have to say about it is "OMG, so hott"... Does anyone else see what's wrong with this?

She also likes The Pixies and The Arcade Fire??? Sooo hot....

I predict a disappointmentton. No new games and software announcements, just a speech on why the Playstation brand is more popular than ever etc.

I wouldn't see that as a disappointment. This is D.I.C.E. for crying out loud. Who announces anything big at D.I.C.E.?

The point has been made though that, with the dissolution of E3, conferences like this one and GDC might become the focal point for some of the announcements that would have previously been reserved for E3.

In any case, the comments from Phil Harrison are always interesting imo and he is getting 'grilled' for 45minutes today. It's a treat, enjoy it.

I thought that the point was made that companies can reach consumer today by the internet, and don't want to spend money on flashy shows.

my bets:

- Lots of numbers will be thrown around per usual
- Talks of the major firmware update
- PSN games will be going full steam by the summer

those are the only safe bets, IMO.

Plus, you can go to gamespot and read the comments. Those are always........interesting.

if anyone at Sony has a reputation for speaking plainly and not spinning everything, its Harrison.

Agreed. I enjoy hearing what he has to say but for anybody expecting big announcements, I just don't see those coming for a few reasons.

From a news standpoint:
1)It doesn't work with the format.
2)It's a keynote, NOT a press conference.
3)He won't make any hardware announcements because he is in charge of software. He has typically avoided hardware questions in prior interviews.
So no firmware/euro-launch/BC/production/hardware info.

DICE Meh-gaton CONFIRMED. :(

Though, I think we're due for some "shock and awe" in terms of game releases and firmware updates in March. There's going to be so many things coming out, (I hope) that everybody will remember how great the Playstation platform is from a content variety and hardware standpoint.

Edit: Expect to hear a LOT about PSN stuff though.

does anyone know what time (and what time zone that is from) he is supposed to go on, that way we can work it out

I bet Phil will feature Motorstorm and F1 heavily, and will talk about Bluray's impact on game development, and then will discuss how Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2, Lair, etc are looking great. But very little video footage of these games will be shown. He will then go over online and its continued development and will feature flOw as an example of how Sony is committed to bringing unique and fresh games to PSN including content for PSP. And then we will hear a little about God of War 2. And he will conclude with a video of Ratchet and Clank and/or Drake. Just a guess.

EDIT: I will save these predictions for GDC since clearly DICE is not the proper forum for such announcements.

I second this.

Nobody said they had to spend a lot of money to turn DICE or GDC into a flashy show. Announcements still need to be made, regardless.

No shit. :lol

"No punches will be pulled" :lol :lol :lol

given that we've had a keynote already that brought us an announcement of a new mmporpg from sony (i don't believe platform was talked about) there's no reason to rule out the possibility that Phil might detail and/or show off something we haven't seen before.

i mean, i'm not presuming it's going to happen, but if you're announcing stuff, you'd want to have something for your main guy to get people excited over right?

i would anyways.

so going by that he will speak in 2hr15m or

10.15am LA, USA
1.15pm Washington, USA
6.15pm London, ENG
7.15pm Paris, FRA
5.15am Canberra, AUS

Routinely fellating Sony Corp for Newsweek.

edit- ackgak! beaten. :(
so basically this is going to be like that thing Kutaragi did in japan before the PS3 launch where he announced hdmi for all systems and the price drop for japan?

eh, we might still get some good announcements or a further look at a game we've already heard about.

sony need to get good press now if they want to start turning things around, it's not like waiting for a bigger show is always the best idea.
