Phil Harrison resigns from SCE Worldwide Studios. (to go to Infogrames? wtf)

Mikewarrior said:
:lol That's not lying? That footage has been proven to be FAKE CGI crap.. Dude, give the SPIN a rest!

No, you asserted that he said the footage was realtime. He never said that. He said they where renderings made to what they believed the final specs of the PS3 would be. At no point did he claim that the Killzone 2 trailer was realtime or running off of PS3 hardware.

So basically.... The upshot of this is that Sony have lost the only credible sounding speaker they've had onstage at E3 for as long as I can remember...

This up next:

Home to feature full RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER integration?

It could be worse - he could be replaced by Mr "I heard a big shout out for your contribution" Bell.

it's obvious that the guy was fed up with having to defend and pimp things he didn't really believe in himself.

here's hoping he goes to atari, lays down the law, gets rid of all the crap, and turns the company into a maker of small, innovative (downloadable) games that reflect what the company once was.

Everytime you hear someone at Sony say "We're sending our crack team of coders" etc it means Cambridge. They act as fixers these days, but they pretty much did Heavenly Sword, check out the credits when you complete the game.
I know. That`s what I was trying to tell Kittonwy, but he holds his own beliefs in regards to that.

with him? not gonna happen. pretty sure he's more into the casual side of gaming. singstar, buzz and the like.

Time for Microsoft to step the fuck up and sweep this guy in!

Definitely.

His charisma and amiability is undeniable -- someone like this could potentially alter Microsoft's situation in Europe.

He said that Huh... Please show? If you watched G4 - He DID say it, so get a clue!

Ok. This is from the article that you linked:

"The way we put those videos together, everything was done to specification. Everything was done to PS3 spec. Virtually everything used in-game assets; some things were rendered."

Which is to say that none of it was done on a PS3. None of it was realtime. All of it was target renders produced months before final hardware was done.

So, now. Where's this G4 link? The earlier ones in the thread are not him.

If anyone can help Infogrames it's Phil, and Infogrames needs a lot of help.

.. and now Mikewarrior will walk into the night, ready to face another thread full of "sony fanboys".

Good enough?

I wonder, will this turn Infogrames/Atari around, making them less likely to get bought up by Microsoft, making it less likely that the next Xbox will be branded as an Atari and have an increased chance at success in Japan?

Or will this make Infogrames/Atari all the more tantalizing for a Microsoft buyout, since they'd score Phil Harrison along with them?

Or did Phil do this on purpose, because he knew that rabid wounded Sony fanboys would lynch him if he jumped ship to the Microsoft camp. But if he went to Atari first because he wanted that promotion Sony could never give him, and then MS just happened to come along...

my gosh.... that's SO not funny and SO old

i have no idea if this would even be legally possible (probably not), but for what it's worth, i hope he can somehow get rid of the 'infogrames' name altogether so atari can actually be atari. even though it isn't, but still. at least looking that way is nice.

From IGN

It looks like Phil Harrison's sudden resignation was not the only change in Sony's executive lineup as of late. In a recent press release, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the appointment of three new key executives: Robert Dyer to Senior Vice President of Publisher Relations, Ian Jackson to Vice President of Sales and Sally Buchanan to Vice President of Human Resources. These positions will take effect in March and April of 2008, and the executives will report directly to SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton.

What also sucks is that this year the PS3 was going to really hit it's potential. Who better to let us know than Phil Harrison?

We'll have Trenton for that. Hopefully no more of any Star Wars character cameos. And more "Riiiiiiidge Raaaacer!". You know you want to Kaz!

After the GDC luminaries thing I congratulated him on Blu-ray winning the format war and he didn't seem to care. Seemed strange at the time but I guess now I know why.

Meh, to me Tretton and Kaz seem out of the loop and don't actually play games. I could be completely off the mark with that assertion...it's just the impression I get.

If I can get more quotables from Kaz though, it may be a good thing. My "Riiiiiiidge Racer" song got me 10,000 hits to my Myspace page in a short span of time. :P

Phil Harrison has lost his smile a la HBK. :(

So oddly, Nintendo is now the only first party with a charismatic spokesperson (teh Reg). Who'd have thunk it having looked across the last 15 years.

Phil was certainly the most articulate of SCE's execs and handled himself better than Kaz and Jack in interviews and press conferences, but if you actually judge the job he did based on the performance of SCE WW's software, it's hard to argue he was doing a great job. When the PS3 SKUs of Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 alone outsold every SCE WW title this Christmas, that constitutes a failure as far as I'm concerned. They've picked poor outside developers to partner with in Factor 5 and Game Republic, and they've particularly failed at creating software appealing to the Japanese market.

How the hell did this not be in the 1st pages of GAF all day long..I finally noticed this megaton announcement and now I hear Sony is sinking slowly, cuz now Phil is gone. He was on the money about Social Gaming, but hell even we GAFers never would've imagined Nintendo Wii taking off like it did. Best of luck, Phil.

I agree, everyone keeps going on about how great Sony First party is but where are the games? Nintendo have virtually got all their main franchises out (or will have in the next month or two). Also what happened to Sony tieing up exclusives like GTA and DMC? does that come under his remit?

The budgets for some of these Sony games are through the roof but the sales and scores have not been upto scratch imo

phil was the _only_ guy out of any1 in the big 3 i cared to listen too at the various press conferences. it's daylight 2nd. he's from a tech background, programed, KNEW technology ..and where it was going. you see the likes of kaz, or any of nintendo's or MS's pleebs in interveiws and a smart interviewer can usallay catch them out, or they fumble a term or two ..it just shatters the whole interview because in that instant you realise they are just puppets regurgitating info.

phil over saw evo studios right? i remember him overseeing the 1st WRC game ... and the way he pimped motorstorm (which is AWESOME).

it's a shame he wont be there to open Home ... in fact it'll seem flat out weird to see the debut of home and LBP with out him.

Not Phil's job.

I agree.

Remember his Home avatar? Hopefully he'll still use it even when he's with Atari. :)

How come everyone assumes he didn't get fired?

Any company out there that went from the PS2's to PS3's market share would chop a few heads, well deserved or not.

I think he was forced to resign, you dont go from Sony to Infogrames by choice.

Weren't they the ones who bought the Atari branding last and still own most of the company?
